Florence, Oregon, where this took place at, has the Exploding Whale Memorial Park. Fun fact: The idea was two blow the whale into pieces and let the seagulls, crabs, other scavengers deal with it in small manageable sizes and also to get rid of the "road obstruction". However after the blast there was no wildlife to be seen anywhere near it; likely due to the earth shattering kaboom. A very large chunk of the bottom section of the whale still remained on the beach and they buried it instead of setting more explosives.
