EDIT: I did more research, and while it's true there are several Thomas Crooks who might be the donor, the one on that donation papers is looking more and more likely to be the same Thomas M. Crooks that made the attempt on Trump's life. It's an oversight that is unacceptable to a Jackal's standard. And for that, I apologize. However, I will address one of the commenters in the replies. @Riclmnpop, if being a Dem or a Rep doesn't matter, then why are the GQP politicians making a big deal out of this one donation? There are so many of us that claim to believe in these ideals and some of us do live up to them but not all and there becomes this disconnect with reality where we believe we are one thing but we really aren't. I am not trying to use this as an opportunity to attack the right but this does highlight an example I have been pointing to for years now. The right thinks their kids are being indoctrinated by schools or society etc but in reality their kids are only living up to the ideals those parents claimed to care about. I see these parents who taught their kids about respect and that people should be able to be who they want to be in this free country but then they get upset at transgender people for existing, being displayed in media and asking to be referred to as they/them. They preached to their kids about personal responsibility and accountability for ones actions but then they get upset about "cancel culture". They taught their kids ideas they thought they believed in but didn't live up to it wasn't indoctrination. To be honest this was one individual out of 300 hundred million and one incident so it doesn't necessarily speak to the entire nation however it is a stark reminder imo that with guns so available and mental health issues going untreated that no one is truly safe in the United States.

I felt the stab of horror that this happened... but it never went away, it just grew deeper and darker, as I consider that Trump will use this to ignite and harden his support. I’m sorry to say that the only place I’m hearing anyone say that this event was ‘shocking and surprising’ has been from the media. Every single in person conversation I’ve had regarding the topic has contained phrases like “expected”, “no surprise”, and “it was only a matter of time”. Singing Kumbaya with our neighbors isn’t going to bring unity when we receive daily reminders (primarily from the media) of endless ‘them vs us’ hate speech, and detailed ‘plans’ about what one side is going to do to make the other miserable when they get in power. The real problem is the way we communicate, free speech is out of control.

Meanwhile the Trump side and conservatives in general have spent the past several decades telling their base that the LGBTQ, Librarians and teachers are going after their children to make them trans, Or threatening them for trying to teach evolution. I am not surprised this happened. I am surprised this didn't happen in 2015. That it took 8 years for someone to make this attempt. Trump is the most polarizing figure in all America if not the world. It's virtually impossible to not have some form of opinion on the man. He's everywhere, almost always saying controversial things. I see comment sections filled with condemnation for all those who criticized him. It's the media's right to criticize him. They must speak truth to power.
