South Korea is mentioned in a list of other countries where democracy is having a hard time. It is worth pointing out that in fact it was quite the opposite. The Korean ppl had a choice between authoritarianism and democracy, strongman tactics and rule of law. They chose democratic principles by having over a million ppl peacefully protest the president's misuse of his position for an illegal power grab. The democratic institutions held strong and the Korean ppl rejected faux populism and authoritarian tendencies of their president. Congratulations to Korea.

I make 4 christmas dinners. Yes 4. I have a large blended family. This year my husband's family is coming the 22nd (30ish people) I'm cooking for that. The 27th my family on my mother's side is getting together (40ish people) I'm cooking ,but it's also pot luck. Then, on the 24th and 25th, I cook for my core household. Usually, a turkey the 24th and a small ribeye roast the 25th, and my dad comes over. Then, New years is lobster pasta in champagne cream sauce for me and my husband. It's an insane amount of work. I understand why people are getting lazy. I want to order takeout sometimes, but I refuse. I keep my family at home because I refuse to contribute to a culture that makes people work on the holidays. Honestly I could talk for hours about my family dynamics and christmas culture but obviously I can't on here.

Sadly, Burger King was his third choice for burgers, because he was from Queens. Trump's second favorite burger was Jack in the Box, because Jack was short for his middle name. Trump liked McDonald's because he thought it was named after him. (and his mother was from Scotland.) In and Out (burgers) kind of parallels his presidential term though. parallels his relations with Stormy too. Trump's administration never maintained employment of more than Five Guys.

I am a Christian, and honestly I enjoy the lead up to Christmas more than the day itself. Not really relevant to my religion, particularly. More the fact that lead up to Christmas to me means happy people in shops with merry music and more good energy in public in general and nice colourful lights. As opposed to Christmas day in my house which was always one of the worst days of the year with emotionally abusive parents who would convince me I ruined Christmas every year. Every Christmas Eve I hoped it would be nice and we could be a happy normal family, but no. We still had traditions, like always getting a cup full of cherries and chocolate in the morning, but overall it was tense and stressful. My nicest Christmas was when I was 18 last year. Stayed with my Oma, stayed in, watched some Christmassy movie, and just talked.

I very much look forward to turkey and ham for Christmas because I only get to eat it once or twice a year! Whats not to love with all the fixings, and hot turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce sandwiches during the week!?

I'm atheist so Xmas is just a day off with gifts, 0 plans, and warm blankets and alcohol.

I am too, so I pick up an extra shift from someone who wants the day off and get OT. I quit the whole gift thing over 35 years ago... 😊

Christmas traditions can change, especially regarding the meal. I'm Australian and 53 years old. When I was a child we clung to some UK based hot turkey dinner traditions. It was delicious but I never had to be in the kitchen in the height of summer. In the 45+ years since then we have gradually moved to a more seasonally appropriate type meal. Christmas ham served cold was first but, increasingly, cold seafood, especially prawns (shrimp, if you Americans must). It's so much better.
