I was watching Audie Murphy westerns during the early 50s. I collected TO HELL AND BACK (1955) many yrs. ago. I like his 1949 BAD BOY flic and the 1958 version of THE QUIET AMERICAN is an outstanding movie. I also know that he was MAJOR AUDIE MURPHY of the Texas National Guard during his later yrs.

Agreed. But there is one thing he lied if I am not mistaken but it does not really matter. He had one of his family member his sister I guess to make a fake document to show that he is old enough to enlist which I dont think he was. But he did it for America and other Allied countries and its innocent people fighting Germany during WW2 so it does not really matter. Correct me if I am wrong. But ya I still agree with u.

@@dallasyap3064 I am a 2nd cousin of Audie's. The story I was always told was that his older sister had to sign a waiver for him to join due to his age. His parents were not a factor & his sister was head of the family. He supported the rest of them (11) with his Army pay & tried to keep the family together. I am a 12 yr veteran myself & very proud of our common heritage. He & my dad were cousins & my dad was older by 3 yrs. He also fought in WWII. Unfortunately, my dad was in the "aftermath crew" that pulled into Auschwitz Concentration Camp just a few hours after the Germans high-tailed it out of there. It was not a pretty site (I have old photos), and my dad did not talk about the war much. My dad also grew up in Farmersville, TX.

@@andyZ3500s Thanks Andy. I'd join again if I had the choice. I am still appreciative that there are people who remember who Audie was & what he did for this country. I'm afraid the list of people who do, is dwindling. It will be a sad day when that happens. I have the original snapshot photos documenting what they found at Auschwitz when they marched in. My dad said the Germans had only been gone 2 hrs or less. It is sickening to see what they saw & imagine the stench. Sorry to be graphic but, many, many large piles of bodies still steaming. How horrendous! Thank you for your kind words about Audie.

+Alba Whiteman My same thoughts, I mean the majority of enlisted are used to grease the wheels of Arm Chair Generals politics. I thank those that signed the petition, but dam that was a lot of Generals and a lot of our military budget that just got displayed while the enlisted person is living in a Cut-Throat operation just to make the next grade. But, the part that really kills me is if you do make your 20 more years of faithful service your retirement pay get taxed, that should be a bonus for serving 20+ years. If we can send millions and billions to other so-called Allies nations then we sure as hell can waive taxing those that did so much for so many.
