other important parts of MEC are prop pitch and supercharger gear, prop pitch is pretty easy to learn, it can be mostly set to around 100% most of the time, but supercharger gear will be specific to which aircraft you are flying, where you have to switch supercharger gears based on the altitude which you are at.

for corsairs, you can keep the oil radiators at 100% all of the time because they are small and the negative effects are essentially 0, the regular radiator is ok at 100% while you are climbing but then should be adjusted to a lower percent once you are done climbing. You can raise the percentage if needed if you start to overheat. I am not sure of your exact mec configuration since im a console player, but when i turn on MEC in a battle, it sets my prop pitch to 50% automatically and that may be why you felt a decrease in performance , you will need to create key binds for prop pitch control. Like i said previously, most of the time you can set it to 100% and then forget about it.

Radiators do increase the drag profile of most aircraft, but the effect is greatest when you're close to the aircraft's top speed in level flight or dive. If you are climbing, the effect usually isn't as great (though still noticeable in a long climb). Adjusting engine RPM can give you a bit of a performance boost depending on aircraft. Typically, 100% prop pitch gives you the max RPM of the engine, which usually also corresponds with highest engine power. However, reducing the RPM can give you better propeller efficiency while also decreasing propeller drag, which in some scenarios can actually improve the top speed in level flight. As you discovered, the supercharger stage/gear selector becomes very important when you're climbing. Basically, the engine's power output is roughly proportional to the amount of fuel it can burn each combustion cycle. As you get to higher altitude, air gets less dense, so the amount of fuel that can be burned decreases, and with that, power is reduced. That's why most aircraft have a forced induction system of some kind, which compresses air and feeds that into the engine's intake manifold. This means the aircraft can maintain high power at high altitudes. But a supercharger is usually only optimized for a single altitude, also known as critical altitude, and the performance is worse either above or below that altitude. To fix that problem, some aircraft have multiple supercharger stages or gears that can be selected depending on altitude, to increase or decrease the amount of compression going on. The Corsair is one of those planes. Some aircraft change the stages or gears automatically to reduce pilot workload. Others don't. And some planes have more sophisticated superchargers with continuously adjustable compression ratio, which means the plane can optimize its compressor for whatever altitude it's flying at. Bf 109 is an example of this. The Corsair has a three-stage supercharger system where the supercharger or "blower" can se set to "off", "medium", and "high" speeds, corresponding to supercharger stage 1, 2, and 3 in the game. In practice, you would use stage 1 (blower off) at very low altitudes, like below 500-1000 metres depending on map conditions. Above that, you switch to stage 2 (medium blower) and that increases the compression so you can maintain power as you climb. And when you climb to higher altitudes, you eventually start to see a drop in manifold pressure again, and then you switch to stage 3 (high blower) for high altitude performance. There are some guideline "altitudes" for when to switch between superchargers, but in practice you can go into cockpit and take a look at the RPM indicator. If you switch superchargers and the RPM drops, that means your switch resulted in power loss and therefore you are at the wrong stage. If on the other hand the RPM increases when you switch the supercharger stage, then that means you gained power and you are most likely on the correct stage. The WEP in the Corsair is a "wet" system where the engine is injected with anti-detonant fluid to prevent knocking. However, the aircraft has a limited amount of ADI, or anti-detonant injection fluid available. Once the amout is depleted, you cannot use WEP and are limited to the "dry" or 100% MIL power of the engine. I think the F4U-1 Corsairs have about 7 minutes of WEP and after that performance degrades a lot. Because of this, the Corsair (and the Hellcat for that matter) have problems in RB meta if the game lasts long enough. So if it looks like the game will last long, I think it's better to go to 100% MIL power and just play in a more conservative fashion, that way you have the WEP available if you really need it. Overall, MEC allows you to get slight performance increases over fully Automatic engine management and most of all it lets you control the engine and oil temperatures better while running at high power settings. In my view, MEC has the most advantages in cruise and climb, but RB meta may not offer the best circumstances for that since climbing at mission start is such an important part of getting a good position once the fighting starts. And once you get into combat, it may indeed be beneficial to turn it back to Auto in order to reduce pilot workload, but that has its own disadvantages. When you get more familiar with MEC, you can do it even in combat, and it does open some options that are simply unavailable with Automatic engine controls. Overall, though, you can probably see why the Germans for example invested heavily into automatic engine control units to manage engine configuration. The pilot basically had just one lever to adjust power with, and the engine would automatically adjust itself to optimize for whatever the pilot wanted from it.

100% fact, increase in performance with the cowlings or radiators closed, downside is you overheat way faster...its only a difference in flat out speed, not noticeable in a dogfight. MEC is used in sim for a readon

Great vid as always. I used to fly the F4U a lot back when games lasted longer and you could take time to climb. Corsairs only get 10 mins of WEP, use it to climb then conserve it for combat. (I think Hellcats get a limited WEP too.) Also I think the American Corsair gets better performance? I remember you are best to hit and run (extend) at a very shallow or no climb cuz it loses a LOT of airspeed in a steep climb and planes you might out run will catch up to you if you climb too steeply too soon (BF109s and yes especially Yak1s!) Also I think a longer convergence like 600m helps take those 900m + sniping shots from behind and below bombers, and you’ll take fewer hits from their rear gunners.

I think the best Corsair for it's BR is the F4U-1A (USMC). IRL that 30 kg tailhook might not have made such a difference but in WT this makes the plane so much better it's not even funny. The stat card says the plane has a rate of climb of about 12 m/s, but i think it's a big fat lie. In short, you get a plane with decent climb, incredible speed, incredible energy retention and an outstanding responsiveness at any speeds.

Climb rate on card shows rate at 1km altitude and I hate stat cards so much. For P47d-28 it says ~14m/s but at 300kph IAS it climbs 21-22 m/s For P51-H it says 17m/s but actually it’s 30 m/s at 300kph IAS so my point is FUCK STAT CARD

Can’t guarantee these will fix anything but try upgrading your Pilot’s Stamina. I’m not sure how stamina works with “controller aim” but on PC with mouse aim, it helps your Pilot’s accuracy in controlling the aircraft. It might also be because a joystick is more sensitive to movement. It could also be because it’s Air Realistic. Some planes handle differently and have better/worse flight models in Arcade vs Realistic. You can also try messing with your “Instructor” in settings. I can’t tell you what control(s) you’d need to adjust but that’s what I can think of.

@@peterjensen9468 look if an 1945 airplane.. that is supposed to be .. better than a 109K.. than a yak 3u than a spit ... then something wrong is in the model in the how you make it to produce power or something. correct! the specific model.. dont forget since it was at 6.0 ... has an engine that over heats like crazy.. when i first play it.. i over heat it and damage it... is the right that the top of the top of the props to over heat with an engine that is tested? .. on the P47 on F4U on the F6F.. ok may is an upgraded but.. what is the difference in game it over heats in comparison to the other models.. in a smaller lighter frame.. form those 3 i mention that used the engines that had less power on them by 200-300 hp... so the Americans put a new plane in their arsenal .. that had the same characteristics as the other ones.. and was not better than the F4U and F6F.. so they messed up.. the br change is in that to 4.7 from 6.0 cause of the guns.. for the gaijin states. but .. the reallity is the bad model. as many US airplanes are bad modeled.. on the other hand the tanks are mostly over tiered cause..powerful gun.. that cant pen the post war tanks. constant uptiers from 7.0 to 8.0.. there is no salvation! the german 6.7 tanks on the other hand can very easy pen the 7.7 post war tanks of the US..when get uptier.. is funny and real deal.
