On this episode of HOT ROD Unlimited, we take you behind the scenes of the buildup of the car that was named America's Most Beautiful Roadster for 2012 at the Grand National Roadster Show. The Indy Speedster is an amazingly detailed, hand fabricated track roadster that was a project of Jackie Howerton's for well over a decade before he sold it to Bill Lindig who had the car finished by So-Cal Speed Shop. In the video, we get the inside view from So-Cal's Pete Chapouris and Jimmy Shine.

My great grandfather is Bill Niekamp(first winner of this award) and I grew up hearing stories of this roadster being build in his garage, and seeing pictures of it, and to see a roadster like this built really takes me back to my childhood. Beautiful roadster.

You guys make the mistake to think that quality means DVD players in the headrest and a big subwoofer and big shiny wheels...when in fact it is in the materials and the gaps between the different pieces.But the US definetly makes some interesting and beautifull cars...its just that they are never 100% complete

It all depends what you want. The R8 5.2 V10 is 173 000$ (CAD) wich is about 20 000$ more than the 911 Turbo. Also, the R8 is a two-seater and the Porsche is a 2+2 (4 seats). Personally, I would go with the new 911.

I agree and i am a Corvette fan...in a big way but it is dissapointing to get in a car wich is expensive nonetheless and have bad materials and SEATS THAT DON'T HOLD YOU IN THE CORNERS.It's not about comfort its about the fact that a car that cost 80000$ shouldn't have those problems

Buick said they would make the new Buick Regal by rebadging the Opel(google this)...the 300C is a good car because it is based on an Mercedes and ask an engineer that worked on the 300C project and they will tell you it is actually based on alot of W210 parts Who told you that European cars are based on US since we have fully independent suspension, advanced 4x4 sistems, small turbo engines with BIG power etc for ages, not to mention 3.0 liter 380HP 740Nm Diesel engines(BMW) wich do30mpg

A friend of mine has a 2010 Corvette and the car is great and extremly fast aspecialy when you consider the price but the interior plastics suck,the seats and steering wheel are something that we wouldn't even use in a 10000$ car etc.He had to have the interior custom made by a tuner so people wouldn't laugh o the car(here in Europe)...I have friends that have the same problems with other merican cars

Why are people even comparing american cars to european cars , Every car mentioned below has complete different purposes. I hate coming on youtube and seeing so many people sharing such little knowledge. You cant compare an Audi r8 to a corvette , ones 4WD ones RWD , ones a v10 , ones a v8. The v8 audi r8 is same catergory as an rs5 in my books its not even a super car. People have there own tastes in cars , If you hate lets say when someone trys cramming there religion down your throat then this is basically the same thing in the car world , people like different cars and have different tastes just let it be.

And Ferrari's are known for catching fire on a hot day (cough 458). There was not plastic on the last gen Vette' like everyone said, and it wasn't cheap. Are you seriously calling 115K cheap for a car? A cheap car is a Fiat, or a Toyota, NOT a Corvette ZR1. Even if they did cheat, at least their cars don't catch on fire when driven like they are supposed too.

I think the performance begs to differ. Also, Corvettes don't catch on fire (like 458's did). Can you give me an example of a better European car that performs better, cost less, that are just as good. Let's call out the "Poor quality" of the ZR1. So the GT-R, 458, MP4-12C, any of Aston Martin's cars, or virtually anyone from Europe's cars can't stack up for the same money to the ZR1. Maybe you're just overpaying for no benefits..

Actually the ZR1's suspension and special tires helped it be faster around Laguna Seca and just about everything else on the Nurburgring. So it's still shitty? Build a better car for less, and then talk.

Explain why the cheaper Corvette ZR1 posts faster times around Laguna Seca than the nearly million dollar Lexus LFA? And the McLaren MP4-12C, Ferrari 458, Astons, Mercs, Audis, or virtually anything else (Nissan GT-R as well). Simply put it, we do it better, with higher reliability rates, for less money. Ignorance isn't the key.

Ford Boss can only manage in a straight line(big deal)...you should of talked about the Corvet wich is a real supercar not a showoff with a big engine,and it looks great and can outturn almost everything.you got it rong with the jeep(land cruisers and land rovers are superior) and you forgot one thing...look at the quality and finish on a lexus ,BMW,Honda,Mercedes,Jaguar etc and then look at an american interior.Thats why european and japanese cars are called PREMIUM AND HIGHEND.

Think about good american cars made on good european car platforms like that new Buik Regal that is just an Opel Insignia with a Buick badge,wicjh isn't even a premium car in Europe...or the Chrisler 300C wich is completly based on an old(very old) generation Mercedes E Class.A 200 hp 4.0 liter or300 and something hp 6 liter, V8 with a live axel ,big cromed wheels and grills and lots of screens and tinted windows isn't the atandard of quality around the world
