I live in the suburbs of DC and it's funny to think of that area, now full of government buildings, as a place where people lived. Thank you for always making my Sunday afternoons interesting.

No surprise. DC hasn't gotten very much better since. A good friend infact left Jersey for the streets of DC and after several years of self abuse via IV heroin/fentanyl use...shea no longer with us after an infection on her spine just wasn't enough to get her straight. RIP Michelle ❤😓

Well I can vouch that the "Murder Bay" area is non-existent in present day Washington DC, I work in Washington DC. Commute from Maryland to Washington DC daily. My route, Clara Barton Parkway to Canal Road to K Street to Pennsylvania Ave to H Street. I work at 14th Street and New York Ave, NW, one block away from "Murder Bay". A daily occurrence are Secret Service police on bicycles all along that area. My mom was a public health nurse in the 1950s in Foggy Bottom. She worked at DC General Hospital and did neighborhood outreach. That hospital was closed in 2001.

Some of the streets remain, but none of the buildings. DC's old district names had character. I wonder if many residents are aware of them today?

Hello and thank you! I don’t know of any stories of hauntings, but none of these buildings survive, so if there were any tales to tell they probably went with the demolition of the buildings in the 1920s.

The Washington Post in 1969 did an expose there were still a few rural style out houses on Capitol Hill at that time, yes, 1969! and the story helped more plumbing and upgrades to arrive in Urban Renewal. There is still a grand mansion in DC over by the Renwick that will never sell, a realtor told me, it was NEVER plumbed! Also there is a book Lost Washington.

How are you doing sir thank you for your wonderful cultural documentary channel. As always iam gathering key points about topics you mentioned briefly here it’s murder bAy in Washington d. C was disputable slum in Washington, D.C. . Roughly bounded by constitution avenue Pennsylvania Avenue . This area was centre of crime through early 20 th century with extensive criminal underclass and prostitution occurring in several brothels and hotels in area . This area was completely rebuilt during construction of federal triangle project in late 1920s and 1930s . During American civil war so many prostitutes took up residence in murder bay to serve needs of general Joseph hooker army of Potomac area became known as hooker division. Now site of national gallery of art became home of expensive brothels that gained nickname marable Alley . In 1870s and 1880s Avenue was site of competition horse drawn street car and chariot companies . Large house known as bull head existed at hotel that now is ebbitt grill . House marked north west corner of murder bay bull head house prostitutes and contained large lower class gambling den . Thank you for giving us chance to read learn new information improve our English language as well. Good luck to you your family friends happy Easter .

What are you talking about it's still that way in D.C except it's now criminals in suits with college educations and political degree's. and probably a copy of Nicolo Machiavelli's the prince..as a capital hill training manual..D.C. district of criminals or Dept of clownery as my grandpa would say..I'm not sure if I'd want to live in DC back then but I think I'd take a NYC slum over this one..not sure if I would now.. couldn't afford the living conditions and inflation lol.

Only people who don't know anything about history would want to be wealthy and live then. People today are so ridiculously ungrateful and useless that they think times are difficult now. People of today wouldn't even survive back then long enough to spend the money. There weren't all these free government programs and money to save your ass when you failed because freedom is a huge responsibility that no one seems to take seriously anymore. Your next question to show how ridiculous and stupid people are today should be to ask how many people, if they lived in 1860 Alabama, would have been abolitionists and how many people would have supported slavery. Watch all of the virtue signaling idiots and uneducated clowns pretend that of course because they are such good people and better than everyone else that they would have all been abolitionists. You know, even though they probably would have lost their jobs, if they owned a business it would be ruined, houses burnt down, family members threatened and maybe killed, but yeah they would have been the abolitionists. I hate people today.

They were in DC and they saw how kids were being wasters and they wanted to Rise Above that. What it became after them is a complete mess of stuff but yea, "no drinks, no drugs, no randumb sex" were the rules. DC is a HARDCORE HOOD in parts man!! The Nation's Capital! 2:51 A very poignant illustration. There is something to be said, for a soldier who swore to defend the country it’s people and the constitution with their lives, come back ( Thank God!) , but with missing pieces, and then Uncle Sam only says , well thank you, okay you’re all set, see ya.” So, what is said?

Here's some truth for you. Especially if you live in a subdivision or apartment complex. There use to be graveyards there and most of the buried are still buried there. They just took all the headstones and such and used them to shore up riverbank, & ect. They were old Cemetery that even their families forgot about over time. YES, this is very very true and still happening. But better to build over than to disturb in my eyes. I will say they should make all caskets made out of metals or plastics illegal because they are truley destroying the earth and keeping the Earth from being able to absorb the bodies as fuel for the soil.
