gd it was dreadful in the old Victorian era days.....and kids these days hate when they lose at Call of Duty and don't get their favorite Lunchables and Pop Tarts.

I love when you bring Henry Mayhew to us! Also, I don't think it would hurt today's children to be a little bit more tough like their ancestors were.

😢 in my grammar school we had a story telling contest where we’d have to memorize a story and recite it in front of the class and then in front of the school if we won in our class. In second grade my mom selected The Little Matchstick Girl and I actually won the whole darn thing, I think largely because of how moved I was by the story, since she would have been my age or even younger. Weird flex, I know, don’t know why I had to add that I won but I think it’s because it’s such a compelling story that was based on fact

There are many people who believe that time is an illusion and time travel may well be possible If this prediction is true then imagine such times as this haven’t occurred yet are we all in an eternal loop of hell

So funny to hear a privileged Victorian male talk about women through the lens of the religion they were taught and the societal norms of their day/class. They were no worse than the men - they were just held to a much higher standard in a time that gave them few ( if any ) choices in life.

Washington DC has not changed. There are the "Haves" and the "Have Not's". The first are mostly white politicians and career bureaucrats. The second are mostly black laborers or unemployed. There is a wall along New York Ave. which divides 13:01 the two classes and . like most all American cities there is no middle class. Why? Because the cost of living and housing. The rich can afford and the poor are subsidized and they are segregated. The school system is the worst in the country. No member of Congress or the Judiciary, Executive and deep state national security cabal send their children to DC public schools. The poor have no choice because there is no choice in the American system unless you have $$$$

All my mum’s side of the family came from Ashton, they were moved North to Bentham during WW2, my mum was only 12 then. Never went back to Manchester. Two of my Great uncles played for Manchester City in the 1920’s. My Grandfather took me to Wembley 1969 F.A. Cup final. City won 1-0 , to this day I still follow City… fortunately having a season ticket.

My family lived in Hoxton Square in the late 50's and early 60's, it was a rented Basement flat of a basement. My dad used to drink in the Red Lion and we sometimes used to have a packet of crisps and a bottle of lemonade outside. We used to go the Petticoat lane and Club Row after church at St Monica's.

I'll try not to give specifics because I just don't remember details. Something that many people don't know is that human life had no value at all. A Judge once remarked that it was better for 100 innocent people be hanged than for a single criminal to go unpunished. This was not a metaphor but it was meant in a very literal way. Justice, not entirely unlike today, was for the rich and preveledged , there was no justice for the poor and although most of the preveledged professed Christian values they did not practice them. Life was valueless, poverty was epidemic, and compassion was in short supply. This is during a time in history when England was among the richest countries in the world. In short it was a very bad time to be unwealthy and to a large degree loving your fellow man was a vague concept.

Ok, out of all the interesting things you could have talked about, you chose to spend the first half of the video talking about hair and women not wanting to cut their hair during the booking process? Why? I just don’t understand. Being forced to get a haircut sucks, but you just go on as if this is the worst thing that ever happened inside a Victorian prison.
