Thats cycle 1, Elyse Sewell. She ended up being a great model in Asia though, by far one of the most succesfull models of this show.
@alexanderhoekema6987
@alexanderhoekema6987 4 жыл бұрын
Elyse didn't deserve to win - her photos were good but she had no passion for modelling whatsoever. She complained about every single challenge the girls had to do and had a horrible attitude, constantly complaining about the other girls and acting like she was better than them, even taking crap about Adrianne, who she supposedly friends with. Adrianne deserved to win - great photos, amazing walk and a great personality. And extremely successful after ANTM as well
@TheAppocalyptor

@@alexanderhoekema6987 people are ALLOWED to complain. ANTM has a tendency of treating models like furniture or garbage, not caring about their safety or health or pain or mental health at all. That's NOT how the real world works. If a model is uncomfortable or in pain, you LET her be comfortable. She's allowed to complain and tell people how comfy she is. All great photographers work with the model. What ANTM does is foster an attitude of worker exploitation.
@alexanderhoekema6987

@@TheAppocalyptor I agree Top Model has put the girls through some extremely dangerous challenges (Caridee getting hypothermia, Danielle injuring herself in dangerously high heels, making Jaclyn pose with bees even though she's allergic to them) but none of them appeared on cycle 1. Cycle 1 of Top Model was by far the most realistic cycle, in terms of what girls would actually face in the real world and the challenges and photoshoots were a real world application of what actually happens in the modelling business. Elyse did not complain about a challenge that was dangerous or scary she just complained having to modelling. Every single time she was asked to do a challenge related to modelling such as do a runway walk she complained about it and she complained every single other girl without reason.
@alexanderhoekema6987
@alexanderhoekema6987 4 жыл бұрын
@@TheAppocalyptor Elyse did not complain about the treatment of the girls, or the challenges being unrealistic, or the the producers exploiting then for drama, she just complained about having to model because it wasn't something she was passionate about. That moment made me so mad because fashion is in a very real sense objective! Maybe they hate that belt but that doesn't make the model wrong in wearing it. In an environment where your own style and voice are constantly oppressed in favor of what the shoot calls for, that belt felt like a little voice of protest--one they were quick to snuff out.
@PlaystationSimmer
@PlaystationSimmer 4 жыл бұрын
The style challenges feel very unrealistic: Models can wear whatever they want on their downtime, the stylists at real shoots don't care because the models will be wearing what they choose, not what they came in with.
@Lindseyisloony
@Lindseyisloony 3 жыл бұрын
No, they want a blank canvas. And that's how it really is most of the time. Prospective clients want to see what a model can do but they also want to see blank canvas headshots (plain and devoid of personality) so they know if a model is suitable for what they want to do. If you want to do a painting do you want a blank white canvas or do you want one that somebody else has already painted on?

i used to HATE when they would talk bout the models clothes in front of everybody. like do they not know each person has their OWN type of fashion / style ??? i get it that you’re supposed to “look” like a model, but how can each model be unique, different, and stand out from the basic normal models if y’all won’t let them express themself ? it would piss me.

Eva is a reality personality... she barely models. Winnie was booted off of the season she was in and was told by a industry professional to not have ANTM on her resume because it’s just reality tv. It’s really interesting, I used to be part of a large reality TV forum and followed multiple iterations of the Next Top Model franchise and you realise how so many are HUGELY more positive than the original. Korea’s Next Top Model, currently the most successful franchise of them all, had such a warm, accepting tone, where every girl was cared for by the judges, while they were still perfectly realistic about each girl and her overall potential. And now, 2 winners (Sora Choi and Hyunji Shin) are international top models, multiple girls from cycle 4 are working in the capitals and that’s way higher than ANTMs total of successful alumni.

I tend to wonder what it is about American reality tv in particular that really wallows in cruelty and manufactured drama. I used to watch ANTM waaay back in the day and didn't notice how bad it was. @@jendowns6175 It's because back then drama sold. People arguing made people tune in to see what the issue was. If people were nice and sweet all the time the show wouldn't have been popular. What do people remember most about this show... Tyra yelling at Tiffany in cycle 4. Drama. It was cheap entertainment and honestly the best ways to stir up drama was to make the girls snap by making them hungry or work with little sleep. I know when I'm hungry I get angry easy. So, yeah they didn't care as long as they made money. Also, look up how shady Tyra is with her own MLM scheme.

From my impression American reality TV feeds on the "drama", i.e. people tuning in to watch other people either fighting, making a fool of themselves, or something of the like. In many other countries and cultures people find this rather distasteful, especially in certain contexts, and their versions will be made according to their cultural norms- meaning people on the show will be expected to behave and not be encouraged or wanted to willy nilly insult each other just for the sake of drama.

"have a personality but not an opinion!' i could not put my finger on why the educated girls who knew themselves and their values would get kicked off so quickly but👆 the way tyra treats the girls that speak up when they're past their limits vs the way she treats the girls that way overexert themselves (hypothermia, mental breakdowns, and passing out) just makes me so angry for the models

Watching the toxicity of ANTM has to stem from Tyra being ridiculed or how she felt being a model in her teens. I recently just watched the confrontation between her and Naomi from years ago and how she basically made that whole situation about her and how she felt. But then she's picking bbn on these young models... something was off.

I find this whole concept of the competitions rather unfair, and yes, as you say, no respect for people's feelings nor care for the consequences they'll have to bear. The judges sometimes seem to talk just for the sake of talking and seeming so knowledgeable, but all they make themselves look like is stupid and petty.
@kristall5928
@kristall5928 4 жыл бұрын
Facts don't care about feelings, nor does the real world. There lives shouldn't be ruined because they got told they didn't have enough passion for there trade which can be true. If you don't have enough passion for something so subjective, you aren't gonna make it in the industry. The contestants should've done there research and should've known what they were getting into.
@silverkyre
@silverkyre 4 жыл бұрын
@@kristall5928 yeah I gotta say the girl doing these videos keeps asking why they mention what their wearing when it's literally part of the competition. To make sure they look like models when their at the judging so they lead. To dress for when they hunt for jobs. As for the why do you want to be here question it seems so clear that he's saying he's not seeing the passion. She didn't have it 8n that moment she couldn't even answer the question. It wasent in the photoshoot. It was important. If she'd answered well he probably would have just told her she needs to chanel that into her photos that she needs to focus on that and bring it out. He's right she just looked bored and lost instead of trying.
@kristall5928
@kristall5928 4 жыл бұрын
@@silverkyre exactly what I thought myself. It's kind of annoying that everyone doesn't realize it is pretty important seeing as it's a lot to go through if you can't handle it or have the passion for it.

I realized how intelligent Natasha is in this episode. She has an idea how to do things, and she is like you either get it or you don't. For her to actually ask Dionne and Whitney how to be as authentic she can be she is really doing her homework. And it is so sad to see two beautiful women in the bottom two having to be pit against each other when they are already being just tolerated for scraps in the industry. To think that two cycles later the not so good one had to be the one to make it

I wish there was 20 seasons of the face. I really liked that show. The girls and the models worked so close together and the girls were given clear direction and the veteran models were invested in their teams in a way that no one is invested here. There was no gaslighting or outrageous challenges and it managed to be even more dramatic then this show in a real way. Naomi used Karen O'Connor who is one of my favorite models of all time and I felt like she was going for more then just big names but real artistry..just a better show in every way..plus it doesn't hurt that Naomi seemed to have pull in the fashion industry that Tyra didn't have and it showed in the outcome of the challenges.
