Wow... there's always a Mr. Obvious that has to chime in with a singer or groups other hits. Like these two don't already know this since they research the group's history on Wikipedia and see their hit songs listed.
@mikemiller30695 ай бұрын
@@2Muffins_in-an_Oven Do you think that the only thing they have to do in their life is to look on Wikipedia for EVERY band in the world? Maybe YOU don't but some people have lives and may be interested in what their viewers want rather than what Wikipedia says.

The "Sandman" is a make believe character that makes people go to sleep. In Scandinavian folklore, children go to sleep when the Sandman sprinkles sand in their eyes. The soldiers in Vietnam were afraid to go to sleep because they could get killed in their sleep. So, they tried to stay awake all the time. Hence the lyric, "running from the man that goes by the name of the Sandman".

"I understand you been runnin' from a man that goes by the name of the Sandman,... he rides the sky like eagle in the eye of a hurricane that's abandon." Simply a beautiful piece of writing...

These guys were kindred classmates of mine ... Class of '69 ... but at another American high school in London. Our group were all civilians, largely kids of oil executives or American diplomats, while they were military kids. In the spring of 1968, my group was in a battle of the bands with these guys (when they went by the name, "The Corporation.") There were five US bands at the big student dance, and these guys blew the competition out of the water! 😁

The 70's around 1974 I saw America at a college in Kalamazoo, Michigan, in the college gymnasium we sat on the floor no chair's, the band was at floor level and we were right in front of them. The concert was the best 😅 we can't relive those moments, but thanks to you I can remember. Thanks for the memories Peace✌️ and Love❤️ a 70 year old forever hippie Gary😊 loved your reactions ❤️

The original three band members were: Dewey Bunell (sang lead in this performance), Gerry Beckley (he was on the 12-string acoustic and backing vocals here, and Dan Peek, who left the band after their seventh studio album ("Harbour") before '79, so he was not seen here. All three were multi-instrumentalists, songwriters, and singers. They were known for their impeccable three part harmonies. And for their laid-back sound and general demeanor. I saw them in concert once, in the early 80s, with my dad. Of all the varied bands I listened to, Dad actually liked three of them: America, Loggins & Messina, and Seals & Crofts (he hated Chicago and Yes...). They did pretty well after Peek left the band (in fact, I think they're still touring), but most of their hits are from their first five albums... Loved your reaction! Carry on!

Good musicians, great harmonies. Their sometimes slightly cryptic lyrics don't always hold up to scrutiny. This may one of the few that sort of makes sense. A lot of their lyrics don't. A lot of semi-metaphorical images that end up going nowhere. A lot of great songs as long as you don't try to make sense of them.

Oz never did give nothing to the sandman...but maybe they should have given some more time to this song? Or maybe it could really be annoying me because that was the Metallica song the arresting officer was playing while driving me to jail...so yeah, not a huge fan of this song title, period!😠
