I've been practicing English placement for the last 3 days and today after waking up I felt like reading for a a few minutes which I DONT usually do since I like reading more before going to bed but I was shocked when I finished reading the first sentence as I could hear myself with a more like-American accent so I ended up reading for 3 hours!!! I love how I sound in English now. Thank you Rachel I did believe this exercise was the missing piece to improve my accent and to take my English pronunciation to the next level when I came across this video for the first time. THANK YOU!

This is so great! A always thought that American English was more tense and in my lessons when I looked at myself in the mirror when I explained a topic - my face was so tense and I could really see how difficult it is for me to control the sounds. But having completed this task, I actually felt how relaxed the natural sound with correct placement is. Thanks. Genius excercise!

This is an important thing for me, in polish placement is in the mouth area. Always. We have huuge amount of "sz" [sh], "cz' [tch], ć, ż, ź [you dont wanna even know how it sounds], it all happens in the front of the mouth, so i have to train a lot.

I agree, Polish is a really difficult language, but we, Poles, are used to it. Sometimes when I read a book in English, I read it out loud. And after a few pages my jaw starts to hurt and sometimes it's very painful. So this video really helped me, but I still gotta get used to the correct placement.

i really like this exercise. QUESTION: does anybody know if using the “uh” sound works for practicing placement of other languages as well?
@hananait-hammou74662 жыл бұрын
From My perspective, i don't really think so , because "uh" is for low placement as in English, but other languages May not require a lower placement but a higher one for example . So it depends on the language and which placement do native speaker use . Again, I DON'T KNOW , I'm sorry in advance if I'm wrong . AND PLEASE Do CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG

I have a question, could you explain the voice placement in chest mean? Is vocal fry because your placement is too low? Even I got vocal fry, I didn't feel voice coming from my chest. It's just coming from the very bottom of my throat. Thank you!
@rachelsenglish3 жыл бұрын
Basically, the chest resonance happens when you are relaxed! This means that you are not holding tension in your throat, the back of the tongue, the mouth, lips, jaw, etc. When you really allow all of that to soften, you will automatically use more resonance in your body/chest. As for vocal fry, that is more about a lazy quality than having chest resonance, you're right that they are a bit different!
