For those wondering about that 7 hour delay on the tarmac, the EU has a law that says any flight that is delayed after 4hrs (I believe that's correct) must be cancelled and the passengers must be refunded or moved onto another flight for free. We obviously need a law like that here in the states.

@@Tank50us what loophole? After finishing the video, the son said they were given a chance to deplane. But only 3 people got off. I understand the fear of not wanting to miss your flight when getting off, but they can’t say they were forced to stay on the plane for 7 hours when that’s not true. Idk how different airline go about boarding again after deplaning, but a flight my mom had with spirit had to deplane. The plane got delayed a bit further waiting for everyone to get back on the plane after counting and seeing people were missing

02:00 Can we appreciate the fact that the Delta cleaning / tech staff spent like 8+ hours getting the interior of the same plane cleaned, disinfected and ready to board for the same flight again. They had to rip out the carpet, reinstall a new one and do a deep clean scrub for the entire interior. Also they rebooked every single passenger, nobody was left behind. DELTA DID A BANG UP JOB HERE🎖

Canceled flights, and delayed flights are one thing, but that sitting on the tarmac thing to me as one of the most important things that needs to change. Mostly because it is a health issue and can lead to very severe problems. If you're more than a half hour delayed, put the plane back at the gate and at least let people get off and have access to food and water and able to stretch their legs.

The two most common causes of off the gate delays are weather and ATC traffic overload. The airlines have zero control over both, and can only wait it out for their turn in line. The solutions are to control the weather by moving thunderstorms away from the airways and to create more airspace over the country to accommodate more planes...you can do that, can't you? In addition, expand current airports to have a minimum of 3 runways that are each a mile apart from each other to allow for simultaneous operations and with "end run" taxiways that avoid crossing one runway to get to another. Too much you say? Don't want to destroy whole swaths of NYC and NJ to expand LGA and EWR? Too bad, enjoy the delays then.

Unfortunately, our airspace system is so overloaded that we get what's called EDCT Times. Essentially, the destination airports are often so busy that they give specific times for aircraft to arrive which means a delayed departure out of wherever you're coming from. I've been given an EDCT time that delayed our departure 3 hours which means we were going to exceed our maximum 14 hour duty day. Luckily we were able to get a new crew to do the trip so it wasn't cancelled. It isn't the flight crew's fault, ground handlers or baggage handlers. It's an FAA/Airspace problem and the airlines inability at handling the issues and the pilot shortage snowballs the problem.

@So_Uncivilized
@So_Uncivilized Жыл бұрын
@@arlenefisher1164 Unfortunately, it's a catch 22. Sometimes those departure times can be moved up but in order to take the earlier departure, the plane has to be ready to go in order to accept. Also, if the aircraft is unable to get off the ground within 5 minutes on either side of the time given (which those delays can be related to the departure airport), then there will be another delay and a later departure time given. I fly in the corporate/charter side so I can't say exactly what the airlines policy is. This is just through the experience and knowledge of the regulations I have. Regardless, the system is overtaxed and understaffed.

As someone who works in an airline call center its always an infuriating thing to learn when UA decides to cancel their flight and leave it for the partner airlines to fix their problem. I swear to God we always feel sorry for the passengers, but since the ticket belongs to UA, they will have to fix their problems. And note you can always get a full refund if the airline cancels your flight.

travel actually sucks rn. over the summer i did a precollege program in dc and i was one of the few people in the entire 100+ person program who’s flight was not canceled due to “air traffic control” issues. my older brother who was 17 was literally stuck alone in new york city for three days with no clothes because of it. airlines are also getting real sleazy with trying to make u pay for their mistakes. my grandma’s qantas flight was canceled and she had had a premium economy ticket because of her back issues. they then rebooked her as regular economy for her flight and then when she told them she needed premium economy for her back they made her pay 1000 more dollars. when my mom found out about this she was outraged and she is a lawyer so she threatened the airline citing a bunch of laws about how they can’t just cancel a flight and then charge a passenger 1000 dollars extra for her original seat. they ended up refunding the 1000 dollars

5:30 This is how airlines deal with the DOT’s rule about never forcing passengers to be on a plane for a delay longer than 3 hours without the opportunity to deplane. Because the door is open, you can deplane and no clock is running. As soon as the door closes the airline has 3 hours to either take off or have you back at the gate. If they fail there are very expensive fines. So they leave the door open to keep the clock stopped. If I’m in that situation and want to deplane I will but stay RIGHT NEXT to the door so when the flight goes I know and can reboard.

So I work for a credit card company and I can tell you right now that we’re all under the same umbrella with the exception of American Express. You will very rarely get your money back if you dispute an airline with your credit card company that is under Visa or Mastercard. These airlines have their terms and conditions on so much of a lockdown that it’s almost always impossible for us to find a loophole. I hate working cases involving airlines because I know that we won’t win when the airline rebuttals.

How do people have such horrific experiences? I've flown about 175 flights this year within the US and I think I've had 2 cancelations and 2 delays that were more than 3 hours. United's internal ground stop was in effect for about 30 minutes. It was their flight dispatching system which is illegal for them to depart more flights if it is down. Not near the only one, and the best option is what they did. Far more delays or ground stops daily due to the federal government and FAA Air Traffic Control.

My last flight was on Hawaiian Airlines in May of 2022. I drove from Kingman Arizona to Los Angeles to get a non-stop flight and everything was nearly flawless. The only problem was the long trek from ticketing/security to the gate - a 30 minute +/-walk for my wife and myself (71 and 67 at the time and she has a questionable knee). Not really comparable to most experiences here, but I have to say that the first thing is to try for non-stop flights where possible, then direct flights with no change of plane. I do believe the larger problem is insufficient maintenance of aircraft. I suspect, although I haven’t researched it, that there is a shortage of trained maintenance personnel. Add that to an aging fleet - I saw a Jen Brooks video the other day flying on American, Delta, and United and at least one of the planes was over 30 years old (actually, my recollection is something like 42 or 44 years, but I’m not totally sure). It’s time to improve the maintenance of our air fleet and update that same fleet.

I'm from England and when I or anyone else I know fly we stay well clear of America air companies, there's always something going wrong. In America everyone has a lack of options to travel internally ( state to state) for the same distence we would probably be travelling by train in the Europe so the airlines knows they have strangl hold on travel so can treat there customer however they like and still come back. It's the lack of travel options that is the problem, I my eye's as an out side observer.

When I went to medical school, the aviation industry was taught to us as an example of a high reliability industry, where the consequences of an error (such as a crash) are very dire but there are so many systems and balances at work that the risk is minimal. In terms of safety, I would say the industry is still high reliability, but in terms of providing adequate and competent service the few years have been quite far from that ideal.

You know their financial statements are public, right? You can look up the actual numbers instead of just inventing something. An exclamation point is not a substitute for reality. United Airlines made $739 million in 2022, after losing $1.962 billion in 2021 and over $7 billion in 2020. American Airlines made only $127 million in 2022 after losing $1.993 billion in 2021. Delta was the winner of the three at $1.318 billion in 2022 and positive $280 million in 2021, but lost the most at $12.385 billion in 2020. This is not a business that's making piles of easy cash. If you think it is, feel free to go buy their stock. American Airlines is only thirteen dollars a share.

I was on my flight from Japan back to Korea in January and it was supposed to be a 2 hour flight. We had a few issues. 1st, my seat tray was broken, so they upgraded me to the 1st row. I didn't get on and find a broken tray table, they told me before boarding (that said, I can speak Japanese, so that could be why things went as smoothly as they did). Then, the plane stayed on the tarmac for an hour, due to a runway traffic jam. The pilot actually told us that there were several planes ahead of us. The flight ended up being an hour and we made it back to Korea a little early. I love flying domestically in Korea too.
