In this clip, you’re gonna hear directly from American Airlines about their hiring plants, both in the near term and over the next few years.

Our school had a AA captain as a guest speaker and he said the current pipeline timeline is about 7 years. I spoke to someone else 2 years into the regionals on flow to AA and they’ve got at least 2 more years. The captain that gave the speech also said AA isn’t hiring outside the pipeline with some exceptions for pilots from other majors, though the unions have apparently been cracking down on that as a way to “skip the line.” Personally, after hearing that I don’t want to fly at a regional for 6+ years, buuuuut who knows where the industry will be even in 1 year. Our guest speaker did mention that Delta and United are snatching up anyone with an ATP soon after they’re ready though if they’re in a flow. All I know is I’m staying in my flight school and getting through it as fast as I can. Thanks for another great insight Trent

There you have it. Current pilots will get through training. Because they overstaffed. The guys in the pipeline will get through. Check Airman will be flying the line and doing line check through the summer. If AAL doesn’t see further slowing. They can and will hire more. If things do slow down. Retirements could/would delay any layoffs.

Hi Trent. An update w flight school. I got a couple of results back on my medical. I've needed to take the time w this news. I can't afford the specialists, and w the dr shortage, it's at least a year to two years wait. I'm back at exploring options for a career change. Still really enjoy your videos and your drive to help to educate others.

Hey Trent What would your advice be for me? No hours yet at 26 considering leaving construction and becoming a commercial pilot. I don’t have the finances to pay for flight school. Would you recommend waiting and saving for flight school, or going ATP route right away? Wait and not be in debt but take quite a while, or get in a lot of debt and get in as fast as possible and make more money to pay off my student debt? Really appreciate your channel!! You are an inspiration! If you can do it in your 50s I can do it somehow in my 20s!

Trent, have you looked into what retirement from an airline looks like? It would be good to get some insight, as it can be a big factor when making a career 2.0 decision. Doing the math, I am at a point where I can give a major a bit over a decade of service by the time I get to ATP mins, and that would make my potential earnings over that time span just a little higher than staying where I’m at, but I think the retirement plan could heavily influence the decision. Thanks.

I really don’t expect much from any airline retirement plan because I have only 10 years. Instead, I’ll be buying more real estate :)

I know their CEO hinted at significantly reducing hiring last month during an investors day. Do you know when this clip was released?

I dunno about you, but i dont want to be at the bottom of a 14,000(??) pilot seniority list when they decide to lay off 10%. I have mouths to feed.

Then a regional will take you with open arms and that Direct entry captain position with a nice bonus.

I have a son in high school that is thinking about commercial aviation. Are you thinking that this is a bad time to start a career in commercial aviation?

Hi Trent, I have been following you and your KZbin channel ! Thank you so much for the content and the motivation ! I was wondering if you knew these two answers: 1) can US citizens/pilots work for a European airline company? 2) and what are the hour requirements in Europe? Thank you

Hi Artem…. thank you so much for watching my videos. Unfortunately I do not have the answers to either of your questions. Google would be much better.

@@trent_dyrsmid I’m currently in Daytona Beach Florida, where there are many international students who go to PEA or ATP… And I heard from many of them the reason why they are here is because they can get their ratings out-of-the-way quicker than in their own country… and that European airlines only require 250 hours… so when they are done with school here in the US, they cannot work regardless, so they go back overseas to start flying right away… I did Google those two questions, And was able to find that: 1) US citizens can work for a European airline, and 2) that most European countries require 250 hours minimum… UK 🇬🇧 and US require 1500… was just wondering if you came across any other information, if any. Thank you and have a good day.
