The American Akita is one of very few dog which I prefer over the Japanese Akita. Normally Americans always want to change an original breed and make it worse. The other dog I prefer American is American Staffordshire bull terrier over the British staffie. But doberman,boxer, rottweiler,the German breed is much better. American Akita is a great dog.

Im must of gotten lucky with female akita she lives with cats but only grew up with one of them from a pup she also lives with another female dog being 2yrs old when she met the other female and shes also a socual butterfly with strangers when we are out

Why is brindle not acceptable? My "American" Akita is two shades of brindle. The "japanese" strain comes in brindle. They are not for first time owners.

The American Akita was a hunting dog and a guard dog they are a spitz breed the Japanese Akita was designed only for royalty no one in Japan could own them you would get Akita statue if you were pregnant or to say get well to a loved one in Japan they almost were ripped out when Japan and China were at war because Chinese soldiers would kill the dog and in line their coats with their Pelt their fur Japanese akitas come in mainly two colors brindle and white orgy red the American comes in more colors Helen Keller went to Japan and they gave her a Japanese Akita and she brought it back to the US and she had plans to design it as an American breed
