Curry is a generalized term for all gravy like dishes that was coined by Britishers . Indians usually don't say they are cooking up a curry.

Yes, india is such a diverse country and so many dishes and categorising all those dishes in just one word "curry", is so wrong. The only dish I call curry or kadhi is the one gujrati kadhi made with gram flour and yogurt.

Yeah but how else they can address it? It's our food so we ofc remember the names of everything but they couldn't. There are way too many dishes and types of curries. It definitely doesn't feel very right but we also call noodles just noodles, never say the names of kind of noodles.

Fun part is actually curry or karhi/kadhi - that dahi basen based gravy, is probably has least spices and relatively simple even if time taking and unlike rest of "curries"... We have a another word for vegetables in gravy- tarkaari.

@@thehawkseye3412 exactly daal is lentil stew , sautéd vegetables are called sabzi , then chickpeas chole and red-beans are not curry as westerners tend to associate it with. Also we never eat naan at home🥹

Christina you are so conscientious and respectful and considerate of others. As an American myself, so many of us are completely ignorant of our use of slang, figurative language, sarcasm, pop culture references, etc., which can be very confusing when we talk to people from other countries and just expect them to conform and understand. GREAT job on these videos 👊🏼 You make us look good :) thank you!

Let me clear d misconceptions to U all, That (So-called) Indian girl (Or I would say Fake/Pseudo Indian Nonsense) Does NOT represent all of India 🇮🇳, She's NOT right about CURRY (Curry is Absolutely Ugly Representation & Big Stereotype abt different types of Indian Food). Moreover, she's a Bad influence when it comes to Dress sense (Indian do not wear such dress publically often just in parties or special ceremonies NOT Festivals), She's Spreading Bad Stereotypes & Wrong Prejudices against INDIAN🇮🇳 People abt arrange Marriages, that American Girl is talking abt Arrange Marriages like they're horribly Bad social practices that Indian Culture exercise which is very offensive like she's insulting/Disrespecting Indian Society. When we talk about Traffic & Festivals, Indians are Noisier than Others.

Interesting that you put Thailand first as Thai is in Southeast Asia with different types of ppl just like in the majority of SEA countries. Vietnam & Bhutan (a lot of Nepal tho) are more what those foreigners think as Asian bcs they refer to Asian mostly for people in the East Asian/so Mongoloid Asiatic. You're right btw, Asian is huge from East, South, and Southeast, Central, West Asian with diverse ppl & skin colors. Also can understand if people rarely include West Asian/Middle Eastern as part of Asia but the underrated thing is Central Asia. They are more close to East Asian/Mongoloid Asiatic despite they have a lot of Eurasian or many mixed etc. Also people mostly refer to desi/South Asians with the really "not typical Asian" as Indian than Asian ( except North India/Bhutan/a lot of Nepal/some Hazaras)

FYI, in minute 7:58 she talked the story about "Nyi Roro Kidul" or "Queen of South Beach". This story is very famous in Indonesia (especially who lives in Java Island). And yeah some people believe she have a power to rule the "magical kingdom" in Indian Ocean, so they must obey the "rule" in that place. One of that place is in Pelabuhan Ratu in West Java. And also in that place there's a hotel with one room that you only can come with the permission from the hotel's staff because the "rumors" are that room was build special for "Nyi Roro Kidul". I had once go there and in that room there are so many items related to "Nyi Roro Kidul" like painting, dress, even perfume is so strong (I think it's use Kemenyan as a perfume because maybe the supranatural beings like that, please correct me if i'm wrong). And also based on the staff story, in some special night (like "Malam Satu Suro"), some people wanted to "meditation" in that room. Mostly they want to get more rich with instant method by asking "Nyi Roro Kidul" (idk if that true or not, but I believe it must have some consequences). But if you interesting to come, I recommend to come because you can feel the special experience and see the unique of one of many Indonesian culture. And also when you come, keep your attitude because you're "the guest".

In the southern sea of Indonesia, it is forbidden to wear green because it merges with the color of the water, making it more difficult to save those who are being dragged by powerful ocean waves. I am Vietnamese, born in Saigon, but grew up in America. I feel exactly how you say you do, but I would have to say that it's mainly only the older people that feel that way. Maybe people in their late 50s and older can be that way, but the majority of younger people don't seem to be that way. Where I live in Atlanta, a lot of people seem to like Vietnamese food and different Asian cultures in general. I don't feel as much of an outcast as I did growing up in the 80s. As a Vietnamese, I’d say that we can be noisy sometimes. If you live here long enough, you will see that we karaoke very often(especially in countrysides and residential areas of cities). Some Vietnamese will try to reduce or stop the noise if you talk to them, but in most cases, they don’t have the awareness of how annoying they are to other people and I’m ashamed because of that, you can contact local authorities if they do it continuously.

I am Canadian, I know a guy that worked at the Canadian embassy as a military attache in Vietnam in the 90s, most of the people he interacted with were older and remembered the war. He said the Vietnamese were a bit leery of him because we look American, sound American (to non-americans), and we are close allies to the US. He told one Vietnamese general who was kind of standoffish, "You know Canada and Vietnam have something in common. We are the only two countries in the world who have beaten the US in a land war." He told the general about the War of 1812 and how we sacked Washington and burned down their White House. They loved him after that. Obviously the War of 1812 is much more complicated than "Canada/UK won", more accurate to say that no one won and the only people that really lost were the allied native tribes on both sides, but still, a good example of diplomacy.

But if its a Noblewoman the added Raden Roro. And Kidul is her name also its a name of a mountain in Indonesia called Gunung Kidul or Kidul Mountain. Well of all the comments, the most critical comments here about the Indian girl are from Indians. Why be so critical? I mean India is pretty diverse and no one can speak or represent the whole of India. I've seen a Sikh shopkeeper in Bangalore who speaks Kannada very well and though he isnt perfect, I just love it. I am never critical. The same way a Sikh cannot represent a South Indian, a South Indian cannot represent a Sikh.... but both can represent whole of India equally well (or equally bad) on an international show, cant they? I bet if that Kannada girl were replaced by a north Indian girl who could also speak a south language, those same Indians would be giving a standing ovation fit for 'bharat ki nari'. 😂😂

But I'd like to go deeper and ask why Indian people in general are nicer to North Indians but for South Indians they try hard to find flaws because they are somehow not real Indians to them..... I believe this is due to biased teaching of Indian history, regionalism and power play.

I don't see Vietnamese people in general as "noisy", despite the misconception about the language. I live in an area of the US northeast with a lot of Vietnamese people and no, they are quiet. It's generally rural Vietnamese who are louder than the urban counterparts and it's a cultural thing. People in the rural areas are more laid back and freer in their dealings with others. Also, it's older folks who tend to be louder in my experience. In fact, it can be seen as a little disrespectful to speak too softly. In terms of motorbikes honking, it's to signal and since there are so many bikes around, there's going to be a lot of honking.

I wouldn't say noisy, more like their rapid-fired words have this kind of annoying quality in it that seems lauder and uncomfortable that is lacking in more latin melodic languages like Spanish and also isn't present in more regionally closer Japanese. Chinese have this too though, even if it's less prominent. Sorry if I wasn't much help, but I'm not a linguist, so that's my opinion on the matter.

@National Socialist Vietnamese Workers Party So you're saying that the Cambodian claim to South Vietnam is legit? I always thought the Cambodians are trying to be dramatic but if the South mostly consists of ethnic Cambodians I think we should return their land! Now I feel quite bad for arguing with all the Cambodians in the KZbin comments over these past years. On top of that there are also many ethnic Chinese in the South as far as I know. But China and Cambodia can divide it among themselves. Considering the fact that Saigon alone has been contributing over 20% of the country's GDP means that you have been exploiting these poor Cambodians and taking all the money up north and leaving the South penniless. Not much better than slavery in my eyes. Just like what the British did to India!
