At 5:20 the Alternate Ridge Road was designated as US 99 in 1932 (Mex. to Canada) before being decommissioned to CA 99, when I-5 was completed.

Thanks for the additional information. Our Golden State Highway video has more on the US/CA 99 route.

The Gorman Post Road was unknowingly built on top of the San Andreas Fault. That's why it's a flat gap through the mountains.

Thanks for the information. Our video at the following link follows more of the San Andreas Rift: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gJiZdaWkn7qVmtE

Great tour of the Old Ridge Route. I live nearby, but have never explored this area. Today I will take the drive!

I am glad you enjoyed it. Stay tuned for a trip along the Angeles Crest Highway that we will be releasing an a couple of days.

Awesome video! Well shot, researched and annotated. I’m looking forward to driving the road for the first time, after hearing about it for years. Will be looking for a clear day this fall 😉 Thank you for this. You and a few other creators have inspired me to do the research and make it happen. Also planning to check out some remnants of the road further north in Grapevine.

Thank you for the comment and encouragement. This channel itself was inspired by video producers before us. We have the short bit of footage of the old Golden State Highway from Violin Summit up to the closed section at Frenchman's Flat. I may put that up online this weekend.

You bet. Liked and subbed. Hope that helps you! How long ago did you shoot this? I anticipated that you would meet a locked gated north of Templin Hwy in Part 2 forcing you to backtrack.

There is a small section of the original road that has some Model T tire tracks imprinted in the concrete between Liebre Summit and Tumble Inn.

Thank you for the information. The evidence of those that have traveled before us is what makes following the routes today so fascinating.

There’s also a pair of horseshoes imprinted in the concrete around 24:40 into the video.

from the beginning to about 9:40 in your video, you are driving nearly on the San Andreas Fault

Nice rolling stop. 😂

Although I would not deny a California stop, the Sony camera's Balanced Optical Stabilization results in movement adjustment in the lens when the car has come to a stop. That gives the impression that the car is still in motion to a small degree.

i wonder if you could ride off road from gorman to castaic, probably on the other side
@autotrails4105 Жыл бұрын
I don't know. The Ridge Road literally follows the ridge so the drop offs are pretty steep on each side.

why would they put blacktop over cement
@autotrails4105 Жыл бұрын
Laying blacktop of the cement is a cheap way to put a new surface without pulling up the old cement, but it doesn't last nearly as long if the proper base is not provided for the asphalt.
