This is niiiice! Both of the 65 Mustangs that I've owned have had horrible wiring. The wire was like brittle candy that would break when you touch it too hard. :(

These kits are definitely a great option for updating the wiring. I might be using a painless performance kit next!

Looking good. I'm at about this point now with a 65 coup. Just getting ready for the AAW harness install, so these videos are great.

Hello, Great and detailed video. I am considering replacing the engine wire harness in my 65 FB. Could you indicate if the harness you installed inn the engine is sold separately or is it part of the whole wire harness? Appreciate your comment
@rookie__pilot Жыл бұрын
Thank you! And the wiring harness is a kit for the entire car. They do sell the stock wiring harness for the engine section separately, but its not the same company

@@rookie__pilot man, I just found your channel from Sarah’s channel. Sorry to hear you sold this would have been cool to see. Perhaps you and Sarah can do a collaborative project, that would be cool. Funny watching these videos definitely a different side of your personality. Watching from Nova Scotia.

Hi. I’m a first-timer learning as I wire my 1965 mustang. I noticed that my car has a voltage regulator connected to the alternator, but you don’t. Doesn’t the AAW harness use the original voltage regulator? I’m wiring it to what I believe is the original alternator.

I am having some difficulty with this pink wire. In the manual It says that the pink wire is supposed to be connected to the positive side of the coil. In your video, you have that pink wire connected to the i side of your starter relay. Should I be bridging the coil to the starter relay with a separate leftover pink wire? I am running points until i break the engine in. So i should get the ballast resistor for this setup? Thank you in advance.
@rookie__pilot Жыл бұрын
If you are running points i would definitely run a resistor just in case. And yes theres 2 wires on that side of the resistor, one going to the +coil and one to the (I) on the starter. I just used the left over pink wire since it there was a lot of extra wire!
@harriss199 Жыл бұрын
What are the 2 wires that look like they are going to alternator. The 6 gauge red and appears to be smaller one as well? Thanks
@rookie__pilot Жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply, the fat red goes to the alternator and the smaller pink one went up to the points ignition with a resistor in between, hope this helps

Hey having trouble finding that kit do you have a link
hey im installing this exact kit in a 64 mustang and my kit came with 2 pink wires to the engine bay one labeled ignition coil an one labeled ignition 12v do they both go to the coil? if you can help thanks
@rookie__pilot2 жыл бұрын
There should be one red (12v) and one pink (ignition coil) maybe the red faded and is now pink but the Red 12V should go to the bussbar and the pink should go to the positive side of ignition coil! Hope this answered your question 👍🏻

Are you running a voltmeter in the fastback? I do believe AAW doesn't accommodate for the origianl amp meter that came with the early Mustangs. If you are running the voltmeter how did you wire it up?
@rookie__pilot2 жыл бұрын
Im using the Intellitronix Gauge cluster which displays volts, and wires right in. Seems accurate also running the one wire conversion on the alternator
@mellis1812 жыл бұрын
@@rookie__pilot thanks. I’m running Classic Instruments gauges. I look forward to your video on wiring in the gauges.

Does the AAW kit come with some sort of grommet for the wiring passthrough on the firewall? I noticed you still had it open.
@rookie__pilot3 жыл бұрын
It does! But its a circle grommet that doesnt really fit too good so some people recommend strip caulk

The 1 wire alternator conversion. Did you replace the alternator or did you have a kit?
@rookie__pilot2 жыл бұрын
I used the conversion kit that attaches to the alt I already had!

@@rookie__pilot is that not part of the autowire kit? Or is that something else? I couldn’t find the link in the description unless I’m just an idiot and breezed over it.

I'm currently installing the AAW kit in my 66 with points. Your videos have been super helpful, thanks! I have one question, what wire did you use on the I solenoid terminal to coil (12V during key on)? I noticed the kit doesn't supply a wire.
@rookie__pilot2 жыл бұрын
If you have points ignition then you have to wire it as you said, i used some of the excess wire that i cut from the pink wire, anything would work. I just used the pink cause its an easy color to identify as a positive or hot. Hope this answered your question!
