LOL no kidding?, Hollywood cashing in on something?....like trying make James Taylor an actor (Two Lane Black top) or David Gates of Bread, a Movie Star?...it wasn't until the early 80's that one the Directors/Producers realized that "if you use what's "Hot" on the Radio in your Movie you'll get a MUCH better turn out" (John Hughes) Edit: mis spelled "Hughes"

They also did an alternate version of Bluebird. One of my favorite Mannix episodes. Here is the scene from the episode "Warning! Live Blueberries" (S1E7) with them singing Bluebird: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kHeck5t3m9FjqKs.

@@The_Timinator It was revolutionary at the time for an up-and-coming band like Buffalo Springfield to make a cameo, and Mannix was considered a hip show, not to mention being produced by Desilu. The producers were taking a cue from the Monkees, which was a hit show at the time; if the Monkees show was used to sell records, then let's get Buffalo Springfield to make a cameo to sell records. Neil Diamond also made a cameo in an earlier episode "The Many Deaths of St. Christopher". Here is the clip: HTTPs://kzbin.info/www/bejne/kKq1iXmaZq2paNE

@@tammylewis2408 Yeah I got all that. the Springfield was popular and playing live around LA at the time, so they were cheap and available and by NOT using the "real version" of Bluebird they didn't break any contracts. ( Look up the Movie "Blow Up" they had the Yardbirds playing a mixed up version of their song to not break contracts) I have a cousin that's very big in the Directing and Producing part of Hollywood, they try to keep up with what's "hot" at the time, that's why watching older Movies, they can EASILY be dated by the Fashion and Music used...Mannix with perfect trimmed and combed hair, a narrow lapel Shark Skin suit with a skinny tie and tapered slacks SCREAMS 1967, especially when surrounded by "Hippies" and a GoGo dancer.

Luckily for all of us Stephen Stills actually auditioned for the Monkees, but was not given the job because he had bad teeth! He told his friend Peter Tork he should audition and the rest is history, as they say. Also, Stills and Young knew each other before they "bumped into" each other on the street in their vehicles, but the story is more than partially true. Interestingly, in this interview, Dick Clark seems to instruct Bruce Palmer "don't say anything". I think this might be because Clark was aware that Palmer was in the US illegally, but not sure about that. If not, was kind of an "odd" thing to tell a guest or else he was just in an extreme hurry to move the interview along. And in perhaps the oddest and most unlikely bit of musical trivia ever, Neil Young and Rick "Superfreak" James were in a band together in Canada that actually got signed to Motown! Don't believe me? Google it!

@@dodibenabba1378 Let's deconstruct your incredibly misguided response: 1.) *"You worship pop stars"* And you know this how, exactly? Appreciating music and the people who make it does not in any way suggest "worship". 2.) *"I worship God"* What "God" and how do you know about it? If there is evidence for such a thing you could win a Nobel Prize, because it would be an amazing discovery. Don't you think all of us would want to know about it?! 3.) *"there's more wisdom in a sentence in the Bible than any pop songs"* You're comparing two things, both of which were written *by human beings!* Whatever for!? And why are you so concerned about wisdom in pop songs?! Did anyone here say they listen to music for such a reason? 4.) *"your unbelief does not eradicate God's existence."* Saved your most misguided comment for last, I see. Here's how it goes: No one needs to - or even can - "eradicate" something that *no one has shown even exists!* If you have proof of a god, and you can explain why you would worship it, please be my guest and present it! But if you can, it'll be a really big deal, because you'll be the first to do it. Otherwise, try not being so gullible. Cool name, by the way.

You totally forget how HUGE Dick Clark was to the emergence of Rock and Roll in the 50's and 60's. Even though he looks like the manager of a new car dealership, he was the way and the light for so many performers. It was slick old Dick who told the old white bible thumping politicians to F' Off. They tried to shut it down with the Payolla scandal and with the John Lennon says the Beatles are more popular than Jesus album burning backlash, but Dick kept everything rolling. Long before Soul Train he was featuring black performers, introducing Chuck Berry and others.

@b.r.ross Agreed. Bruce Palmer was a full member but he had to keep it on the down low because he was in the U.S. illegally. So was Neil Young. But Palmer got caught by U.S. Immigration and they deported him. Palmer snuck back into the U.S. by cutting his hair short and wearing a suit and tie. He rejoined the band. There are lots of photos of the Springfield with Palmer in short hair. Unfortunately, Immigration caught up with him and he was deported again and out of the Springfield for good. Neil Young was lucky, never got caught and finally got a Green Card sometime between quitting the Springfield and the release of his first solo album.

If they only had a better Producer for their Albums, things would have been a lot different. They sounded the same on a '64 Chevy AM Radio as they did on a HiFi Stereo at Home.

I had always heard the story they had a accident. One band was heading to Buffalo and the other band was heading to Springfield. The surviving members made the band Buffalo Springfield. Haha! All these years I was believing that story.

I had heard that he had some immigration issues due to his familiarity with marijuana and the authorities frowning on that behavior, and that was why he turned his back to the camera, so he couldn't be identified. With that in mind, to see him here was surprising.

Bruce Palmer and Neil Young came from Canada to USA as illegal migrants. Bruce was caught by the police for weed, and without US identity card. He's been deported back to Canada. But he came back to the US again, illegally, and then preferred to remain unrecognized for a while !
