Thank you for your service. Were you drafted or did you enlist? So glad you made it home. I was in 10th grade in 67. Just beginning to learn to protest. Our generation got to experience so many new things ... like that strobe light, modern art, electric guitars, etc. And we had the BEST music ever!

Did you ever ask Frank Vanderpuil who his barber was?! That guy not only never had a hair out of place but it was always the same length! He must have taken a haircut before every show! I know that Brylcreem and Score were popular in the mid 1960's (I had both including some thing called Stick-um for crew cuts), but I can't remember the hair spray guys were using. It seems that the longer shag look for guys that the musicians were already wearing (with bangs) wouldn't reach the Bandstand floor for a year or two. The "layered" David Cassidy shag for men wouldn't be around until the mid 1970's when we all started to go to unisex stylists. Younger viewers wouldn't believe we didn't even have blow dryers or mousse to style our hair after a shower and shampoo back then! That's why there was no body to anyone's coiffe or 'do!

@@shave-a-thon3415 Good one @Shave-a-thon! I remember "The Dry Look" brand hairspray for men sold by Gillette. Plain old unscented Aqua Net worked better. LOL And you're right. Men's Shag haircuts didn't appear on the Bandstand dance floor for at least another year or more. High Schools still had a dress code and guys' hair could not exceed the top of the shirt collar. I got yanked out of my high school graduation rehearsals until I trimmed my sideburns. Nope, younger viewers wouldn't believe why our coiffes were impaired.

@@dancerdon9175 In the early 1970's, my father would be waiting by his car outside my high school for me to to come out. He would say, "Let's go. It's time for a haircut!". High school dress codes and hairstyle rules had changed by then and even some of the male teachers were wearing ponytails! I'm trying to find out when "The Dry Look" first came out. I think it was around 1970 or 1971. Here's the commercial. I think after a 5 second spray of that stuff, even a 40 mph wind couldn't move one's coiffe! kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXWnnWt5is10r6c I had a different version of the Gillette Max for Men hair blower. It was narrower without as much power. This was about the earliest thing men had to give themselves a decent look: kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4q2mneXmLuCsM0

@@shave-a-thon3415 Thanks for the flashbacks! Wouldn’t you know the year after I graduated from high school the dress code was lifted and all bets were off. 👍

@@dancerdon9175 You're very welcome. In JHS (late 1960's), I kept hearing the Asst. Principal make announcements that girls "are not allowed to wear culottes to school." Until recently, I didn't even know what they were! They're so benign compared to styles today. A few years later, girls were wearing jeans to high school. Even though dress regulations were loosening, I couldn't imagine girls coming to school back then in the spandex like tights they wear today, or the skin hugging jeans.
