It actually originated in mozambique Peri Peri is a mispronunciation of the word piri piri , which means bird's eye chili in Portuguese. Apparently the south African who started Nando's had a Mozambican friend who showed him the recipe before he died and in his Homage he opened a restaurant w his friend's chicken recipe . Unfortunately he wasn't able to pronounce it well so it ended up being called Peri Peri.

i love nandos but you know what it's always so busy...and i'm a guy who grew up with spanish food and i psent my summers in portugal...you haven't lived until you order portuguese take away chicken...it's so juicy and delicious it practically beats nandos. and they deliver to practicaly anywhere...doesn't matter if you live in a house, apartment or motel or if you're staying in a resort...just give the take away the address and they can get you that chicken.

@Vincent_N89 If you go to any massive food chain in Britain and believe you are eating good quality chicken that hasn't been pumped full of something unpleasant then you're either deluded or stupid (the two are often not mutually exclusive) Do you honestly believe that the amount of chickens needed to supply just nandos in the UK alone can be met by any means other than massive industrial farming techniques? You might as well stick the chicken up your backside for all the nutritional good you get from a nandos chicken, and that's before nandos add even more chemical garbage on top of the rubbish that the chicken has already been pumped full of at the factory farm it was reared at. It's not only healthier but much cheaper to buy a decent quality chicken and the ingredients to make your own.

Just try it, it's nothing crazy, just good seasoned chicken. I usually get the chicken wings with peri chips and garlic bread. You can choose the spice level you like. Go for medium if you're not sure. All the sauces in different heat levels are available on the side (for free ofc) so you can just add them and try whatever you want.

Then the Portuguese that was there made it using the chilli and different ingredients even ones that they had brought over from Europe. So it’s a Mozambique Portuguese and I can tell you for sure to get the best piri piri chicken you have to go to Portugal or Portuguese owned restaurants. There is a reason there is no Nando’s in Portugal 😂
