Best time to visit depends on what you want to see and do. Very early summer can be really good. Maybe June. Lots of the plant and animal life will be at its best. Slightly quieter than peak summer. The Edinburgh Festivals take place in August and that tends to make Edinburgh unbearably busy if you want to actually enjoy it, so unless you really wan to see some festival shows then avoid Edinburgh in August. Hotel prices are also absolutely crazy in August. Other option would be to wait until September. Lots of places you can do by public transport. Rail route from Glasgow to Mallaig is rated as one of the most scenic in the world, and you can do the last part of the route on the Harry Potter steam train. Driving is better for exploring the country, but be ready for roads that are more narrow and more twisty than you're used to. I live in a small place on the banks of Loch Lomond and I've driven the route up from Glasgow to Eilean Donan castle loads of times. The road from Loch Lomond to Glen Coe is lovely and hugs the side of the loch for long stretches, but it's not a great road for driving on at peak times. The road through Glen Coe is one of the most scenic in Scotland. Its a trip you can do in a day, but there's the option of doing an overnight stay in Kyle of Lochalsh, before doing Eilean Donan the next day and then heading over the bridge to Skye. Edimburgh is worth a couple of days. Glasgow you can do in a single day. I'd give at least a day for the journey from Glasgow up the west coast and then 2 or 3 full days on Skye. You could do a day in Inverness and then head down towards Perth. Head east to Dundee for a night and see RRS Discovery (Captain Scott's Antarctic voyage ship) , and take a trip to Glamis Castle. Glamis is a fantastic visit and that then lets you up to head south on the east side of Scotland to finish off in Edinburgh again.

Come over in June to August but the midges will be a thing.... Winters are very wet but then any time of year can be, winters aren't normally all that cold but not ideal for tourism. late spring to early autumn ( fall ) would be good and might be a little bit busy with other tourists.
@1nikg

@@marvintpandroid2213 aye but often from Glencoe upwards the munros are covered in snow and its fantastic scenery. You're bang on about the midges though, I left another comment saying it depends where you are , close to water and wet long grass. Mind u I was at Loch Shiel in late August and never felt any, but when we stopped at Kingshouse on the way home I was eaten alive and covered in bites and that was only going from the car to the hotel,

I just spent 12 days in Scotland the first week of October. It was my first trip out of America and I did NOT want to come back home and I am already planning to go back. It was the most wonderful and magical experience I’ve ever had. Everything was so beautiful and everyone was so nice. The weather was….wet and while the temperature was around mid 40’s to mid 50’s if you dress nice and are walking ALOT like we were you will be comfortable if not get hot. I had a raincoat on most of the time and a scarf and would end up getting too hot. Our trip started in Edinburgh then took a train to Inverness and w got a car there. Then we drove down to Fort William and after a couple days there we headed to Isle of Skye for three days. Again, so much rain but it creates a certain vibe/mood and while the clouds and fog obstruct the view, that view is still stunning.

Hi Ladies. Bless you for defending the unique pronunciation of Scotland - he actually made a bit of a pig's ear of most of the place names but I'm a Londoner, I only know them because I have a very good Scots friend and I've been up there several times. In the Highlands when the sun is shining you can be comfortable in a T-shirt from May to October but when it's raining you can freeze to death :-( When someone comes back from a holiday in Scotland looking brown you can never be sure if it's a tan or rust... I look forward to the video of Driving Miss Debbie :-)

I grew up in NYC, but moved here to Glasgow in 1984. Best move I ever made. It never gets too hot or too cold. Rarely goes above 80F and winters are mild, although a little wet! Because Scotland is quite small compared to the U.S.A., nowhere is too far to drive to. In half an hour, you can be in the mountains or by the sea. There are numerous ferries leaving regularly to the islands if you fancy a day out, or you just hit the road, turn up some small road you've never been along before and see where it leads!! There is beautiful scenery around every corner and over every hill. When the mists are floating between the hills and there is a light drizzle in the air, I've driven through some stunning hills and lochs expecting to see the Lady of the Lake offering Excalibur to the king of all the lands. I've driven down that same road in the blazing sunshine and you would hardly recognize it. Either way, just stunning!! Driving on the other side of the road isn't as awkward as you might think. Just make sure to order an automatic car, because if you don't, you'll end up with a stick shift, which is the norm here. The native population are generally very cool, indeed. I love it here and would/will never leave. Sure, I miss the bagels and pizza from New York, but worth it!! You'll love it here too. 😎💜

We drive up to the highlands from South-East England twice a year and we always go the last 2 weeks in March and the last 2 weeks in September and most of the time we have great weather (hiking in t-shirts). We normally stay in the Moray area which is on the East side and have never had issues with midges. The wettest holiday was when we stayed on the west coast. Last September we had a week of warm weather then the the last week it rained or snowed all week. Weather in the highlands is very unique and it can be snowing in one place and half hour down the road be brilliant sunshine due to all the mountains and valleys. What we normally do is decide on the day what we are going to do according to the weather in different areas. We love it so much we have plans to move up to the highlands permanently in the next few years.

A lot of people question why the brits had such a lasting impact around the world for such a small nation, but imagine waking up each morning and seeing the natural beauty you've been discovering in your video's and try not to be inspired by that, is it any wonder some of the greatest music, poetry, literary works and art have come from these green and pleasant lands

You're right about 'Edinburgh'. But our enthusiastic young friend can't pronounce a lot of other words, either, e.g. 'Glen-FIN'n', 'VIE-uh-duct', 'HOLL-ee-rood', 'ELL'n DON'n', 'GLAS-go', 'BIDG-'n nam BEE-an', 'Loch LOAM-und'.

I've been to the Scottish Highlands 3 times and would absolutely love to go again. Stayed near Loch Ness. Beautiful scenery around there, definately worth a look. Yeah, it's cold in the winter, but it's also just as beautiful. Wish I could post pics on here, I'd show you some of the photo's I took. (If you wanna see em I could maybe show you on your FB?)

It may be an age thing but every time someone mentions Harry Potter it sets my teeth on edge. Yes, l am grumpy about it. In the same way that some, mainly Americans, asked why The Outlander theme was played at The Queen’s funeral.

@@lizbignell7813 When Harry Potter is forgotten about it will still be the Glenfinnan Viaduct and the place where Bonnie Prince Charlie and his Highland Gathering begain his failed coup in 1745. And the 'Outlander' theme is a bastarized version of the original which attempted to portray a (romaticised) account of the Prince's escape to France aided by a Flora MacDonald, who was later forced to flee to the Americas wher she again picked the losing side during the American War of Independence. She again had to flee from the Carolinas to Nova Scotia. Much more behind those lyrics than the banal 'sing me a song' of Outlander, in my view.

Hi girls, another great video. As an englishman who has lived in Scotland for the last 55 years, I can understand the frustration of the pronunciation problems in the video you reviewed. A couple of standouts are Loch Lomond, pronounced Low-mond. I live close by and often hear this wrong pronunciation. Sligachan on Skye is pronounced Slee-a-chan (ch as in loch). Quiraing on Skye is pronounced Key-rang. Hope you both get to visit Scotland sometime, I'm sure it will exceed your expectations. The midges tend to die down later in the year, October often has good light but can be unpredictable weather-wise. Take care and keep the videos coming.

@@1nikg And Bidean nam Bian (The peak of the mountain). I would suggest late Spring, Summer, Autumn. In winter there is often deep snow, icy roads and strong winds. I live ten minutes' walk from a Castle and can look across the River Forth to Edinburgh , and on a clear day can make out the Castle. A whole floor of of Culzean (kullain) Castle was given to General Dwight D Eisenhower in appreciation of his actions during WW2. It is an hour from Glasgow, and is on the coast.

I always say never to visit the Highlands in August. Every man and his dog comes in August, probably due to the school holidays. But it can also be a very wet month, which does bring the midges out. I always say the best time to come is May or June it's usually the driest time, so there are fewer midges if any and it's not as busy. The temperature can reach around 82F but usually doesn't go above 77F.

I have a big queen logo tattoo on my back and I've been to 3 of the annual Queen conventions where I met Freddie's sister Kash one year. The conventions are awesome! Another place you should visit in scotland the next time you both go is Isle of Harris, they have the most stunning beaches there, its looks Mediterranean almost. Hope you both have a lovely rest of the week and take care 🙂

It's on my doorstep but don't go enough..but I think we are all guilty of that ..as many of us don't visit London much either and its only 2 hours away ...Edinburgh is amazing you both have to visit..but my favourite place in Scotland in Stirling its just so beautiful..when you step of the train you are surrounded by mountains its just stunning...hopefully you will both visit soon..❤😊..Mark's paintings are fabulous..what a beautiful gift and so thoughtful..

Visit Inveraray, Fort William which is near the viaduct in the video you watched. Loch Lomond just north of Glasgow and the start of the highlands.

I am 52% Scottish according to my DNA. I have been to Scotland a couple of times at least. Some when I was a young person and some when I was young adult. I always support Scotland during rugby matches. My maternal grandparents were both born in Aberdeen. Yeah get the pronunciation right! My big sis has done that train journey. It is so great, so she told me. This guy does things on the cheap and cannot pronounce words properly. Thank you for correcting him. I live by the sea on the south coast of England, but grew up way inland. When I see the sea these days, I really appreciate living near a beautiful site and sight when I walk along the coastal path. The guy really needs to listen to Billy Connolly to get the accent. Summer and Autumn are a great time to visit, particularly Autumn. It could be a Castelophobic? Mark is very talented and I have seen both of those castles and they do exist!

Just to let you guys know he said Gen-fie-nan its Glen-Fin-Nan, thats about 40 mins drive from my home in Ardnamurachan. if you want to know where Ardnamurachan is see 6:00 the bit of land that goes way out west that has Kilhoan on it thats ardamurchan and my home is mentionsed there its Glenborrodale, Named after a viking warrior that was burried called Borridil. Yeah Midgies is like mosquitos, when there has been rain stay away from Tree's and bushes. Yeah if your use to mosquitoes dont worry about them! 13:00 yeah alot of our islands arent very big the Isle of skye is only 50 miles by 25 miles. Avg temp in summer moneths is 17 c (63f) but we have been getting in upwards of 23c (73.4F) recently, if you on the coast it will be cold and windy, esp at duncansby stacks! Most historical sites are owned by the National Trust for Scotland. Yeah you have numerous areas of sheep goats and even Hingland Cattle roaming the glens and roads! Best time to visit is May-August. Where abouts are your scottish roots? Hastings and Pevensey castle are located in england, England has around 4000 castles, scotland has around 1000 and wales has around 430, Great Paintings. Great video Guys!

Dear girls, in many places the 'grass' covers deep peat bogs where you can sink Upton the knees or more. It can be quite dangerous to leave paths. Scottish midges are quite small but attack in swarms any exposed skin. They drive you mad. They hang about near water, usually during summer into autumn. We don't measure distance in UK by time but by actual mileage as travel time can vary according to conditions. Prepare for weather to change at anytime. Even in summer one can experience four seasons in one day, but we do get plenty of good weather. Love you girls.
