In 1066 we were conquered by the Norman's who were French and so the upper class would speak French. Also way back Scotland had its own monarchy and was quie often at odds with the English monarchy hence the unicorn and the lion

Another fun fact: scientists wanted to prove something about the brain so they asked quite a number of taxi drivers who passed the knowledge test if they could examine their brains after they died, a fair number agreed to this and yes they did examine quite a number of brains. What they found was that the brain turns out to be a muscle, the area of the brain which holds spacial awareness is bigger in that part of their brain than others without learning the Knowledge. The extrapolation from this is “Use it or Lose it” Good eh?

Regarding the unicorn being the national animal of Scotland.. Scotland and England were separate independant countries until the Act of Union in 1707. They had both been warring with each other for centuries beforehand and a lot of Scots (and I assume English didn't agree with this). There was also Jacobite uprisings in regard to who would be monarch, as the Union of the Crowns had happened 100 years before this. After the Jacobite uprisings there were the lowland and Highland clearances which resulted in the end of the clan system in Scotland as well as gaelic, tartan etc being outlawed. Some scholars have said the Highland clearances were a form of ethnic cleansing. Still today the effects of this are beinf felt as the Highland population and gaelic speakers never recovered. The main political party in the Scottish Government is also a pro independance party that wishes to separate from the rest of UK and become independant again.

Hi again! Just a quick one, when you finished your video you held two fingers up on both hands. During the wars with the French our archers used long bows but theirs used crossbows. The long bow is was a really powerful weapon and in the right hands could knock a knight off his horse and could be reloaded faster than the crossbow, it was deadly on the battle field so when the French caught a English bow man they used to cut off there bow string pulling fingers this of course made them useless on the battlefield. They would send the disfigured bowmen back as a taunt. The English bowmen when closing for battle after this by displaying their bow pulling fingers to show them still there. This basically said to the French F-Off you Froggy B-starts we’ve still got our bow fingers. It’s now the accepted way of saying to anyone “F-OFF YOU B-STARD” now it’s acceptable to hold two fingers up with bent fingers forward but not with the knuckles forward, not to Brits anyway ask anyone. Winston Churchill made the V sign with the two fingers but always with the bent fingers forward not the knuckles. This is just an FYI so no offence can be taken but now you know. I love the reactions you give to all the vids thank you.

Heraldry is quite interesting. Both the unicorn and lion appear on the UK Coat of Arms. There's much more to the UK than London. Snowdonia in Wales, Cornwall & Dorset in England, Edinburgh and The Highlands in Scotland and The Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland - Just to name a few.
