Milford Sound is stunning, I love going there (been three times). Last time I was in Queenstown the concierge told me about another one called Doubtful sound...takes a LONG time to get there and you take a coach, then a ferry, then a small coach up and through a pass to get there...but it is amazing

If you want to do New Zealand justice, DRIVE. There are so many places you can do in coach groups, but of the three coach tours I've done it still doesn't get you everywhere worth seeing. I went there with a friend and he did all the driving and I did the navigating but we had to pre-book all the stops which didn't make it flexible, but we did cover a LOT of both islands. Start in Auckland - you can do the Waitomo caves as a day trip and lots of other stuff to do there, then go north through the Bay of Islands (stay there if you can afford it so you can do at least the trip to 'hole in the rock'), go up to the northern tip where two oceans meet then head back down towards Rotorua and spend at least a couple of days there - you could go via Tauranga but the area south of Hamilton is stunning. From Rotorua I'd go to Lake Taupo and then either keep heading south or go off towards Napier and keep going south to Wellington - you must go to the top of Mount Victoria for the view (and see if you can see an aircraft coming in to the airport there...scary approach. Most car rentals want you to swap cars in Wellington if you are going to south island, but whatever...hope on that ferry and enjoy the magnificent scenery along Queen Charlotte sound.....(South island suggestions if you want them later)

Hell yeah! I consider Enzed my home (even though I am not a citizen.) I was born in Scotland to a Kiwi mother and an English father. I went to NZ with my parents as a baby and lived there until the age of 27. You are so right about this video just scratching the surface of things to see and do. One of the things that is hard to overstate is the sheer amount of natural beauty. You don't need to visit a place to find a beauty spot. They are EVERYWHERE and if you don't care for a view, drive 10 minutes in any direction. It's insane how landform diverse the country is. Unlike 'Straya, the animals don't all want to kill you. Strict biosecurity means we have zero snakes, for example. In my admittedly prejudiced opinion, the people are the nicest in the world, too. ETA: This video is by adrenaline junkies, and even with two activities in Queenstown totally misses the spectacular scenery and the only food they show is Fergburger (admittedly, world famous) and fish and chips. The countries biggest industry is tourism, so accommodation and restaurants in tourist areas are world class.

My favorite experiences in NZ - 1)Cruise in Milford Sound, 2)Queenstown - jet boat ride, 3)Akaroa - swimming with dolphins, 4)Nelson - coastal boat trip stopping off along the beaches of the National Park, 5)Coromandel - visit Hot Water Beach, 6)Kaikoura - whale watching boat trip, 7)from Auckland - acting crew on an America's Cup racing yacht (adrenalin!) or spend the day wandering on Tiri Tiri Matangi island bird reserve, 8)Paihia - Bay of Islands boat trip, 9)Waitakere bush trip to the west coast black beach, 10)Rotorua - fascinating very active geothermal area. Auckland is a great city, or from Christchurch take the Tranz Alpine train across country to Greymouth, relaxing trip! PS I have not listed any dangerous activities, no jumping off high places or into freezing water, or long, long hikes because I was a lot older than this couple! 😄

Hi, Aussie here. I went to New Zealand back in 2014 and it was amazing I do recommend the Glow Worms and Hobbiton. There no shortages of spectacular landscapes and scenery in New Zealand however I absolutely fell in love with Queenstown! Words cannot describe just how stunning that place is!!! I walked outside my hotel and just across the road looked like a movie set! Absolutely beautiful mountains covered in snow (it was end of winter when I was there). Very very picturesque!! ❤❤

Being a Brit, visiting NZ was like a home away from home, on the other side of the world with jungle and glaciers! But they drive on the same side of the road so all is good. We did 5 days in the north island to see the bay of islands at the top of the north island and the 70 mile beach as well as seeing Auckland. We need to go back to do the rest of the north island. We then had 3 weeks in a motorhome in the South Island. OMG! Milford Sounds defo, curio bay at the far south with penguins, well 2,000 matings pairs in the world, we saw one and have the video if you would like to see this area. With a petrified forest, trees that are rocks, with penguins on it! Abel Tasman National park is another must see, as is Marlborough sounds, wild camped there unbelievable! Marlbourgh for the wine and Kaikōura on the way down to Christchurch best fish and chips in NZ with great views. The coast road down to Christchurch where there has been major earthquakes, you can see all the hotels that shut down as they were cut off both ways (road open now), lots of seals bathing on the rocks en route. Queens town and mount cook areas and the route in and out from there were amazing too…. NZ is my favourite place we have visited and would go back in a heart beat!

Emigrated from the UK in 2009 and would not go back. I have visited Cape Reinga, 90 mile beach, Bay of Islands, Auckland, Coromandel, White Island, Bay of Plenty, Rotorua, Taupo, Hawks Bay, Taranaki, Wellington all in the north island. Golden Bay, Nelson, Marlborough Sounds, Kaikoura, West Coast, Queenstown, Milford and Doubtful Sounds, Invercargill, Stewart Island, the Catlins, Mt Cook, Dunedin, Banks Peninsula, and Arthur's Pass. I have been filling in a map as I see the country and there is plenty more to see, and all of it will be a pleasure.

As a kiwi born and bred I give thumbs up to this video. It's not so much what NZ has in the way of scenery etc, many countries have great assets as well but that it is so accessable in a very small area. When I cook breakfast in the morning I look out at the hills that were featured in the Hobbit trilogy (Hobbiton is about an hours drive away), there are natural hot pools about 1km down the road and we are only 2 hours from Auckland and about the same from Rotorua. Tramping (hiking) opportunities are everywhere as are beautiful beaches and fishing for trout and coastal and ocean game fishing. The problem for visitors is where to make your priorities and a local contact does help a lot, if not, tours are well organized but book ahead. We who live here know we are spoiled in a beautiful, safe environment which we love to share.

My family emigrated in 1963, came back to London in 1968. My cousins are there in the North Island and I went back in 2015. We used to go as a family on trips out back then, as me and my brother and cousins were kids, to Rotorua on a Sunday and also to Auckland in the Xmas Holidays for the cricket. My Uncle's family were friends with the NZ wicketkeeper and he and his family lived next door to them, he was a South Londoner too. We had so much freedom living over the road from the very quiet beach in Tauranga, heaven.

Hi from small town New Zealand. South Island near Christchurch. Your video just popped up on my YT feed so thought I'd take a look. Love watching these kind of videos. (Have just subscribed) Loved watching Zena all those years ago. Was one of my favourite shows. I guess we take our beautiful scenery for granted most of the time as we just see it every day no matter where you go. Watching these kind of videos and seeing other people appreciate it makes us realise we live in a great place . Not sure bunjy jumping would ever be on my bucket list but most people say they loved it. (Maybe at 61 I feel too old to attempt it.) Hobbiton looks amazing, really want to go there. Have seen the glowworms and they are pretty cool. The jetboat rides are pretty amazing. There are a lot of small towns and cities around the country that are great to visit depending what you like to see. Oamaru has beautiful old white stone buildings, Dunedin is the Scottish city of New Zealand. Akaroa, under a couple of hours drive from Christchurch was originally a French settlement. I guess Christchurch was the most English city until the Earthquake destroyed so many of our beautiful old stone buildings. In the South Island we have the Southern Alps dividing the East and West Coast. Close to beaches, lakes, rivers and mountains. Hope you get the chance to come here for a visit. I'm sure you'd like it and we are generally a pretty friendly bunch.

Highly recommend you include it in your itinerary.

Related to the glowworms, they are the larval form of an insect. There is a thing called blackwater rafting, where you go through a glowworm cave complex in a wetsuit, using a car innertube for flotation. It is an amazing experience but as you are in a stream fed from the snowfield of Mt Ruapehu, Mt Tongariro and Mt Ngauruhoe aka Mt Doom from Lord of The Rings so it is rather cold. But it is not like the canyoning thing as the biggest jump is only a few feet. I was super unfit and yet it was pretty easy to do. Helicopter tours are expensive. I can recommend the Northern Explorer, Coastal Pacific and TranzAlpine train trips through the North Island, along the Pacific coast of the South Island and across the Southern Alps, the main mountain chain that goes down the South Island. Some of the scenery is stunning.

Lovely to see you both as always. I’ve been to New Zealand and visited Auckland, Waiheke Island which was amazing. Lovely country and people. Also went on a boat for 5 hours to see dolphins and whales, only 10 on the boat so was really great. It reminded me of the Devon coastline. Unfortunately didn’t go to South Island which I’d love to do one day x

There is a lot to see in NZ… way, way more and more diverse than shown by the video. I took myself twice 2009 and 2010, travelling by public transport, except for Rotorua to Auckland via the Coromandel, when I had a hire car. Once I started driving I realised I was going to see more of the road markings and the back of the vehicle in front of me than I saw of the landscape! I couldn’t have done the Coromandel part of my trip without the rental vehicle, but I decided never to use a rented, self-drive car again. There are magical places to visit, from the Treaty Grounds to Napier, take the ferry from Wellington to Picton, and use the service buses around the South Island. Meet kiwis (the birds), Kiwis, and Māoris. Definitely cruise Milford Sound…

Hi from New Zealand! Now then, the people who made the video you reacted to is definitely aimed at adrenaline junkies. Speaking from experience the best way to do NZ is start at the top and work your way down. This would entail: Starting with the Coromandel (They called it Narnia) Heading down through a Hobbiton day trip, ending in Rotorua From there You'll want to jump from the North island to the South Starting this Island in Christchurch (come say hi to me) You simply must check out the Sheffield Pie Shop, this shop is just outside the city in the middle of nowhere and still attracts daily customers (this is a must do) from Christchurch head West to the mountains to see the glaciers and lakes including Lake Wanaka where yes that one tree is (That tree might be the most photographed ever) Head a bit further South into Queenstown where you will most likely have your mind blown however being surrounded by mountains some tourists get annoyed when there's fog obstructing everything avoid this by staying a few days to really see it all (Queenstown has some of the best restaurants in the country besides the Sheffield Pie shop). Milford Sound is your last stop bringing the whole experience to the most relaxing conclusion. The glow worms are not wriggling around on the roof of the cave lol they just glow like a star in a magical turquoise blue. There's heaps of helicopter tours available in NZ. Now you asked what something is that I'd recommend in particular. Learn a bit about the culture and maybe get a Ta Moko Tattoo (lots of tattoo shops would love to put art on you and each tattoo is unique to the person) Try these 3 foods. The first is Whittakers milk Chocolate the second is L&P (Lemon and Paeroa) the Choc is amazing and the drink is what we have in summer. The last is a Cookie Time cookie just because they're a staple like the others. Much love from NZ.

100% on the Whittaker's Chocolate. But don't stop at dairy milk haha. Milk choc, jelly tip, caramel, there's even a L&P version of the chocolate too. Fish and chips on a beach on a summer evening can't be beat.

Yes that whittakers chocolate is the best and Darfield (just about 10 minutes down the road from Sheffield) also has a great bakery/pie shop, pity it's closed on Sundays.

When I went to New Zealand as a kid. Amongst a lot of other things, I visited the Maori place in Rotorua and the Waitomo glow worm caves. I also went to Queenstown where they did that rope swing thing. I didn't do that. But I did ride the Shotover Jet. Which is a speed boat that speeds up and down the Shotover river that is below that bridge where they did the rope swing. The driver speeds through narrow parts of the river where sharp rocks whip by seemingly within inches of you and on wider parts of the river. The driver would do 360s! I also walked to the Franz Josef Glacier. But I didn't go up it like they did. I also saw the geothermal pools I'm Rotorua and Mount Cook.

I'm not from any of the mentioned places, only Auckland, but have to agree that Queenstown is beautiful. I would also recommend going up north to Paihia/Russell (whale/dolphin watching, beautiful beaches, etc). And the South Island is stunning, especially in winter when there is snow on the mountains. The middle of the north island is also great, Rotorua, Taupo, Matamata (Hobbiton). Honestly, no matter where you go there is always something to do or see, regardless of what your adventure level is. Though if you want something with just a tiny bit of adventure, I would recommend the Luge (little downhill go-carts).

Just image standing at the front of the boat, going "I'm king of the world". I can remember an ad from years ago in which part was filmed around Queenstown with a steamship and railway; magnificent. As soon as he said that word, and the look on your face; I immediately knew what you were thinking, yes it does tend to steer you that way.

If you want relaxing experiences in NZ, bird spotting in Ulva Island, walking beaches with seals on or sealions if you are in the right area. Wildlife spotting in Akaroa harbour, Hector's dolphins and blue penguins, Castle Hill rock outcrops. Mt Cook glacial Lake boat trip, pancake rocks in the paparoa national park, kea spotting in Arthur's Pass, Geothermal pools in Hanmer Springs. Harwoods Hole, Takaka for the hippies, Golden Bay and Farewell Spit. There are several multiday walks that need to be booked well in advance. This is all in the south island.

Hi from New Zealand. I am a born and bred Kiwi and have travelled a lot worldwide over the years but I do have to say that I think i live in the most fun, beautiful, adventurous and diverse country I know. One comment I have to make - everyone mentions Milford Sound but my wife and I spend 2 night cruising in a place called Doubtful Sound (just south of Milford Sound) and it is , i think - even better. Waitomo has plenty of other options aside from the Glow Worm Cave. My son and I did a 7 hour cave trip in the caves natural enviroment including a 300 foot rappel into the cave. Words can't describe that! The variety of foods/restaurants is incredible as well. My wife and I spend a lot of time eating out and trying different food cultures here. I live in a small city where the snow capped mountian during winter is only 15 mins away and the surf beaches are also only about 20 mins away. Suffice to say I love New Zealand and wouldn't want to live anywhere else.

Yes there are helicopter and plane tours that fly through the mountains, if you take a domestic flight from the north to Christchurch you fly above them and if its a clear day you get a pretty amazing view. NZ isn't cheap but if you have a friend here you can stay with then you can have an amazing trip for a reasonable price, most things that aren't for the tourist market are either free or quite cheap to do in NZ, for example you could pay $200 to go white water rafting or you could inflate an inner tube and do pretty much the same thing for free. I think NZ is more into risky activities because ACC will cover medical costs and 80% of your lost wages if you get hurt lol

I’ve been to New Zealand 3 times and every time I was stunned by its incredible natural beauty. For me, that’s what makes it truly special. I feel this video really missed the mark by showing some things that are not all that unique (rolling in a plastic ball, really? 🤣) and missing many amazing unique places (such as the geothermal lakes near Rotorua briefly shown at the end). Do a video with NZ landscapes and you won’t regret it. Also as a fellow Xena fan, I had a lot of fun discovering the waterfalls and beaches near Auckland where the show was filmed. They’re stunning!

Been there done that, beautiful place,we have relatives there so we stayed for 2 weeks,if you go you must go to to Rotorua where they cook the food underground every thing was delicious, the New Zealand muscles are huge, our relatives are in Auckland,North Island,it was so hot when we went,by the way this was about 40 years ago,I guess a LOT has changed since then,Rotorua is amazing with it's hot springs, geysers and lakes with gold and arsenic and sulfur all mixed together, and a message saying,WARNING,THROUGH ANYTHING IN THIS LAKE, YOU WILL BE TOLD TO RETRIEVE IT.,yeh right.

It doesn't really matter but not sure how they went to Milford Sound and thought it was a lake. Nice video but Milford Sound is a Sound - an inlet of the sea. The water is salty and it has seals and dolphins. Amazing place even if its raining - just means more and bigger waterfalls. Plus the drive to get there is spectacular. Cheers

Technically its a fiord, as they were created by glaciers in the last Ice age, and the water isn't that salty. There so much rain there, it has average of 12 metres annually, hence the waterfalls and rain forest, that theres about 3 metres of fresh water which sits a top the sea water. If its been raining or you're near a river or waterfall, I've been kayaking and you can drink the sound water.

If you MUST do something, go to Auckland and go up The Sky Tower. You don't have to go outside, but there is the Sky Walk (go around a walk way with no barrier, but TWO ropes overhead to stop you falling!) & the Sky Jump (misnamed, you are attached to a harness which is connected to a pulley system that slows you after a free fall of a few seconds so by the time you reach street level you are going very slowly, NOT a bungee!)

I'll meet you at the pub in the Karangahake Gorge. I live 8 minutes up from it at the south end of the Coromandel Ranges. There are so many hikes around there. It's the most popular rail trail. You can bike it. Check out the 'Window Walk'. They cut windows in old mines, and you look down into a tributary of the gorge from high up. It's sure to be in Google images. Absolutely stunning. The gorge is not far from Te Aroha (the only hot soda spa in the world) and Matamata (Hobbiton), and the way to The Bay of Plenty, and Waihi Beach, Whangamata Beach, Hot Water Beach, Tauranga, etc... only 1 and 3/4 hours from Auckland.

Hi from Christchurch. Firstly blame JRR Tolkien for "The Shire" not us, we know the difference 🙂 I love the West coast of the South Island the only word you can apply to the scenery is awesome and I love Franz Josef especially the glacier. One of the lovely quirks abut NZ is its about a 15 minute drive from the glacier car park back down to the coast (the beach). And yes Hobbiton does occasionally run promotions to allow people to stay there. Also another quick note the North and South Islands are very different scenery wise so don't just do one of the Islands and think you seen all of NZ. Oh and one last thing they are called Kiwi Fruit not Kiwis because asking for sliced Kiwi in NZ is not a good idea!
