I would have been ambidextrous but my teachers didn't like the idea of using my left hand at all. They went through great lengths to make sure I wrote right handed. Jokes on them though, my left hand writing is slightly moderate mostly due to not being used for a while, but other than that I can cook, fight and multitask ambidextrous.

At one point, I was planning on switching from right-handed fencing to left-handed, but I discovered a rather large blind spot in my left eye, which defaulted me back to fencing right-handed. Regardless, my handwriting is terrible with either hand.

This is presented as a joke but my father who grew up in Europe in the 1940s actually was beaten by nuns when he tried to use his left hand to write. As an adult, he wrote (perfectly) with his right hand but did everything else left-handed.

My mom used to consider me mentally disabled because I'm left handed. Over the nearly 30 years I've been alive and through my various achievements I've shown her that being left handed is not a bad thing, it's equally as good as being right handed (overall) and obviously doesn't mean you're mentally disabled. Even after all that, when my nephew was born a year ago and he showed signs of being left handed (although kids don't really develop a preference until a few years later) she once again was afraid that he'd be insane. It was actually our culture from the homeland in Europe that demonizes left handed people, for the reasons said in this video... they're crazy, they're evil, they're the devil's minions. She learned it and it's sad but I guess some people can't change no matter what.
