Bro you're so right. We can all do better. I'm a 50 year old white man from a small town in Ohio. There were a lot of black families around us and my grand parents had so many black friends that I grew up without any hate towards another group of people. I'm so lucky to have open minded folks for a family.

The best thing about this performance (other than Daves incredible talent) is the fact that this was put out on national TV with no question and it was discussed sensibly and with respect, He created a conversation that needed to be had and I like to think the government actually had a shred of fear seeing this go out

Yeeeees was waiting for a UK reaction to drop and Dave is a genius. The white guy he paid tribute to Jack Merritt was killed in a terrorist attack. He worked with people who were in jail, including Daves brother who is in for murder. The government tried to use his death to argue for longer prison sentances and as Dave says that was everything he was against. Also try Gang Gang by Cadet for a similar theme. Most of the Black British population are first or second generation immigrants which adds a different 'flavour' but our society is by and large less segregated by race than the US and more by class and wealth. You NEED to do 'In the Fire' by Dave. Amazing stage performance with some amazing features, the live version is great. Also, just for your own listening, you should hear Ghetts - Conflict of Interest from start to finish. Its a masterpiece album. The UK has much MUCH to offer.

Totally hear your man at the beginning talking about there not really being much US hip hop currently out there, of any decent lyrical substance. I am British and white but grew up on Public Enemy, KRS One, Big Daddy Kane, NWA, Ice T, Master Ace, ATCQ, LONS and Wu-Tang etc. My favourite artists today are Little Simz, Ren, Dave and Jamie T. Massive unexpected shift for me to UK rap (and whatever label they are)! But they are real and talk to me the same way as those US rappers did in the late 80’s and early 90’s.

Such a brilliant song and so much for all of us to learn and hopefully grow from. I will never truly understand, but I do want to be educated and have these kind of discussions. I really want to be able to ask the questions on what I can do to be a true anti racist advocate... I DO recognise there is still VERY MUCH systemic racism in the UK... Not as bad I think as in the US, but still very real... I want to show support but also don't want to be patronizing... It's difficult to know where that line is without being able to ask... Sometimes asking is deemed as ignorance and the response can be aggressive... The questions do come from a place of ignorance... But asking means I want to learn... Open communication in a safe environment where everyone wants to reach outside of their own paradigm... But if we have never experienced it the only way we can learn is by asking what may seem difficult questions.... ❤

To be fair to Dave he wasn't calling everyone racist he was saying the UK government say they are the "least racist" country but Dave's point is the "least racist" is still racist. He's not wrong but I understand you'd have to know more about UK life and politics in general to get the nuanced point he's making there.

The problem with Free Speech unmoderated is that the already powerful have the loudest voice and theirs is the only voice that gets heard. You notice this with the Right, in that they will demand Free Speech when their voice is being quietened but if somebody they disagree with speaks up they shout them down. The Left, at least the intellectual Left, doesn't want to shut people up. We don't want to censor people. What we want to do is encourage and amplify the voices of the weak, and allow them to be heard as much as the powerful. Of course this to some extent means we have to tell the powerful to shut up. They've had their say, they've had their say for the last 100+ years. We've heard their point of view and they have nothing new to say. It's time to listen to those who haven't had their say as much. It's time to let those voices get heard. We are trying to do the job of a moderator. When one side continues to talk over the other and not let them get a word in you need to turn their microphone off while the other side speaks.

F the noise. WE are the community. WE are the next generation. WE will survive and surpass all of the previous generations with OUR camaraderie. The hate that is perpetuated by the mainstream media and thus, the masses is only that, hate. It means nothing in the face of truth and conviction to the desires we have as humans. Let's stop the loop. Let's break free from the narrative. Love you guys and the messages you provide. Keep that sh up. No space for hate in the future we create, period.

Divide & Conquer. It's been done for way longer than most people think. Akala has made songs on it, spoken extensively on the topic as well as written an autobiography (in his case mainly about the British Empire, but you can find parallels in just about every civilisation) and we as all races fall into the trap of being controlled. As long as we keep fighting amongst ourselves, we'll never hold the ones in places of power to account.

I always love seeing the openness to conversation. It's what makes us a true civilization. If we can't talk about and work out our differences and misunderstandings, we become savages. Like you've said, we've lost a lot of that conversation in society. The more we lose that, the more savage things become. It's certainly evident now with all the polarization. We can definitely all do better.

Sadly there are more people held in Slavery today than at any time in history. The East African trade ran for over 1000 years and only officially stopped just over 50 years ago (it still goes on) but there isn't a large black population in the Middle East as they were castrated (around 1 in 20 survived the castration). The word Slave comes from Slav as so many Slavic peoples (East Europeans) were taken for centuries

Thankyou, slavery is not exclusive to blacks.. even in usa, there were white slaves too.. mainly irish & chinese.. there were more black slaves as they cost less to acquire from Africa than the white slaves cost in Eu & China.. slavery was economic, not racial.. you have been brainwashed to believe slavery was about race, just like white racists have been brainwashed to hate on non whites.. its part pf the political game to divide & conquer.. together we rise up, divided we fall & remain controlled...

I genuinely like your reactions, and you guys pick up so much more than the usual US reacts to UK crowd, I'm sure BP it's because you're an experienced MC. I think you fumbled this reaction though. there is provable systemic racism in the UK. loads of studies like one that submitted the same CVs to job openings with white and "black-sounding" names, with something insane like just 20% of the interviews being offered to the ostensibly black applicants. maybe it's a cultural thing, but brits aren't so afraid to accept leg ups, because we all pay for them in tax. why should any group of people have to accept working twice as hard? for what? honour? I'm still subbed, no shade just my opinion.

Exactly this! An element of conditioning was coming through in this reaction. British taxpayers, of which I am one, were still paying back the debt to Slave owners in 2015!. Look it up. As a black British person, paying slave owners for the abolition of enslaving my family. “The least racist is still racist.” Understand this point, and reflect.

We're all united in our joy's and sadness. Please, please stop focusing on what can be used to divide and concentrate on what unites us. Slavery has been going on for 100s of 1000s of years. The word Slave comes from Latin sclavus, "Slav, slave - the trade of Slavics who were white slaves actually & lets not forget that the Kings of these territories 1. Dahomey · 2. Morocco · 3. Ottoman Algeria · 4. Egypt · 5. Kanem Bornu · 6. Kingdom of Allada · 7. Aro Confederacy · 8. Ashanti Empire all traded their own people & white slaves too. I don't think this is taught in American schools which naturally focuses just on it's own history within this heinous trade. Racism is not just white vs black, (I mean do we even need to mention what Hitler did during WWII !! as just 1 example), that is way too simple a view as we all know, many races & religions suffer in every country because of racist views. What is needed are people who speak out from every generation on the subject & so this track by Dave is VERY much needed to be heard!!!!!

I love Dave & his stories but there is a narrative from some parts of our world. A story that is sold of our history that only black people were slaves, that all black people were slaves & all white people were slave owners. That is simply never been true. Slavery has existed in all cultures in all parts of the world. It knows no skin colour, it is the ownership of humans by other humans. We are ALL descended from slaves if you look into your history. It now feels like these stories are used to make one part of the community feel oppressed, victims & the other shamed by their ancestors. But that is short sighted media induced distortion of the truth. We are ALL the same & the more we realise that the more we will solve our problems.

Its not that conservatives dont want a conversation about racial things, its that we are sick of being told we racist by default & sick of having to debunk fake news to people who cant be bothered to do research & just believe certain things blindly as soon as they hear it on the news or in social media.. we happy to have conversations but it gets so draining having to walk on egg shells & try waking people up.. personally im happy to put in that effort but as group i know most are just sick of it & dont wanna enter a conversation that requires them to kiss ass by default or else be labelled a racist..
