In this Khanversation I discuss the double standards of the current US administration when it comes to free speech. When Khalistani separatists and activists threaten to blow up India's parliament or even an Airplane, the US responds to Indian complaints by saying as a democracy it allows its citizens free speech. But in the past few weeks the US government has taken several steps to silence speech that is pro-Palestine and critical of Israel. I examine the new bill HR 6090 which seeks to silence dissent on college campuses, the threats of sanctions to ICC and family members of ICC staff, the banning of Tiktok, the violation of the Leahy Law and more as examples of actions taken to silence free speech and end academic freedom in the US . US wants India to become an ally on NATO/Japan/S Korea lines. So in any future conflicts with China/Russia/Iran/etc; India's participation alongside US is guaranteed. Narratives on Khalistan, Democratic backsliding, CAA, HR violations, Hindu nationalism, etc; are all to build pressure in this regard. Hope India stands strong!

Sir does a perfect democracy exists anywhere in the world? I think that the states which are closer to perfect democracy are weak states. Some authoritatianism is needed in the society because all individuals are not rational / logical and they may harm the entire society using democracy. Absolute democracy or absolute freedom of speech is never good for society. I am open to rational counters and criticism.

I came in USA year 1968, Vietnam was hot burner in every compus. I was a student. It wasn't about against war but was against mandatory draft. And in 1971, there was reform if you full time student you don't have to register. So that's was different and by 1970 everything was back to normal. This is very mischievous on part of Prof Khan. In his opinion what US is doing regarding Khalistan demand is right and that the US should apply the same yardstick to Palestinian supporters. He is not saying US is wrong on Khalistan. He is saying US should allow Palestinian protestors to continue to cause mayhem

Not really comparable. The number of people demonstrating for Khalistan are much smaller. They are not disrupting university campuses. Nobody is doing talk shows about Khalistan. US relations with Israel can not be compared to that with India. Sir, consistency does not, in itself, advance a nation's geopolitical interests.

As far as US, the Indian Diplomats know these inconsistencies and preaching nature of West/US. Its only you "India-origin Emigrants" who are in awe of the "so-called" US values and liberalism. We Indians (atleast sub-consciously) know that West and US have values only to preach to others..When it comes to themselves they are free to conduct a genocide if it suits them. What was the "War on Terror" conducted in Iraq and Afg and the same war Indians have been waging in Kashmir. The difference is striking from the very basic tenet of how to conduct such operation. I also wanted to ask you about the impact of your criticism on your career as a professor. I know you have your tenure system and perhaps this allows you to be nore shielded than others. But the kind of restrictions that this bill puts will certainly put professors under pressure as well, especially when they are near the end of their tenure. Dr Khan you can be either Human Rights Activist or Islamic activist as two being diametrically opposite to each others. Refer Quran teachings for treatments with Kafirs or women and transgenders in Islamic state. So don’t be hypocrite and be either Human rights activist or Islamic Jehadi activist.
