I'm not sure if the DCS designers have tweaked things, but I recall your F-22 SEAD video where you obliterated an enemy airfield and planes taking off and the SAM sites didn't even get a sniff on the Raptor, not even when the bay doors were open. Forgetting real-world specs, even in DCS I find it tough to believe that a smaller airborne radar like the Foxhound would carry would outperform the larger SAM systems in defeating the stealth. That's why I think they might have tinkered with the -22 data to make it slightly less OP.

I don't know if it's a real life tactic, but in modern submarine simulation there is the tactic "reconnaissance by torpedo". If you know there's an enemy sub but can't detect it, you launch a torpedo hoping it, at least, makes the enemy nervous an reveals their position. Seems that's what the Mig did in the second round.
@ferdeboergd2562 жыл бұрын
@Omar Khurshid it is very risky indeed and almost surely reveals you are there. It's only used when you know the enemy is there and you believe they have already detected you. So firing the torpedo doesn't really make things much worse
@T8001232 жыл бұрын
@John Doe "recon by fire" is absolutely what is used in the US Army. Can't speak for other branches, but I'm sure the Marines and Air Force use the same term. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the Navy says the same, but submarines use a different term. The sub branch is pretty dissimilar from the rest of the Navy from what I've heard, and also torpedoes are somewhat uniquely equipped for the task. They have wires attached to them and can be controlled by the sub and given different orders until the wire snaps/is disconnected, so it would make sense to me that it would be uniquely suitied for just firing off and either pretending you have a target, or just sending it into the general area, knowing that the torpedoes own SONAR will pick them up and then can be commanded to attack that target.
@HamuraiC-1372 жыл бұрын
@ems0428depends what you are doing. The ANA would “recon by fire” thus alerting tali’s to the assault. They would bug out and the ANA didn’t have to get into a gun fight. Very frustrating.
@georgechristian39024 ай бұрын
Trust me. No sub captain is going to shoot a torpedo just to find out if there is an enemy sub in the area. Because it would tell the enemy exactly where their boat is. And give the enemy sub a huge advantage because unless they were lucky enough to shoot in the direction of the enemy sub, forcing it to move, it isn't going to move. If it's close enough the American submarine wouldn't even know it was there until the enemy fired on it from close range. Which is about the biggest "oh shit" situation in submarine warfare. And if they are to far off for a good shot. They know exactly where the other boat is and can quietly sneak up on it. The last thing a submarine wants to do is make noise.

Missiles with better range, but has no chance in a closer encounter with the f-22
@fubaralakbar68002 жыл бұрын
@@cineva-wb1pk In a close encounter, yes. But that's exactly my point. It's like the Bismark fighting an Arleigh Burke--I mean sure, the Bismark has enough firepower to vaporize the Burke in one go--if not for the fact that you could smash the Bizzie with cruise missiles before she even knew you were there. You could make the same argument for an F-14 going BVR with an F-22. Ah, but the F-22 is able to nullify the MiG-31s advantage by using stealth and good maneuverability to dodge the missile storm and get in close, to an environment where it is vastly superior. It would be like giving the Bizzie modern stealth and sensors, but leaving her weapons the same. Now she would have a pretty good fighting chance against a modern ship. That's basically what the F-22 did here, and that, combined with the fact that GS is a great pilot, is what gave the F-22 the victory.
@heatblast8762 жыл бұрын
Remember stealth is not always invisible on radar it will always gonna detect from a close range, by using strong radar/low frequency radar which make it easier to detect the stealth aircraft, but mostly it will detect on a close range. As you can see in the fight between F22 and Mig 31, first of all people thinks that the F22 raptor will not gonna detect on the Mig 31 radar and as it is an stealth aircraft which make it difficult to detect on radar and since the people thinks the F22 will gonna launch the missile from a long to medium range and make a formation towards Mig 31 and down shot that it, as the RCS of mig 31 which is huge around 15m2 compared to F22 RCS around 0.0001m2. But surprisingly the Mig 31 able to detect the F22 from a medium to close range quickly on radar compare to other 4 gen aircraft. Because it has strong radar which not an AESA radar, but a PESA radar but with greater power aspects on Mig 31 radar (backstop: radar name) compare to other aircraft PESA radar. Mig 31 able to see the F22 at the range of under 60 to 40 miles but can't get a lock, which is surprisingly, that makes it superior to the Mig 31 which is actually a true interceptor aircraft, but when you see the fight between such as the F22 against the 6 group of Euro fighter typhoon, the Euro fighter typhoon has advance AESA CAPTOR radar, but 6 of them can't even see at this range, while the 1 Mig 31 PESA backstop radar able to see in this range. Which means that the Mig 31 is having one of the strongest PESA radar of all the aircraft that can even challenge today modern to mid modern AESA radar. Which is totally an surprisingly standard. Even that Mig 31 able to launch the R37M missile maybe at the range of under 50 to 45 miles towards the F22, as you can see in the video the R37M was tracking perfectly towards the F22 target, but it miss in few meters inches, the missile guidance was good and it was tracking very well in both of the matches, but it miss few inches why because the F22 has superior in stealth features and EW suite that can able to jam the incoming missile or with the superior in stealth, because the missile knows where it is heading towards the target but can't get it as the F22 was superior in stealth and good EW suite that able to dodge the missile easily with an few inches. But if Mig 31 was having an medium range infrared missile with electric optical inertial guidance such as R 27ET which has range of about 60 to 80 miles, which finds the heat signature of the stealth aircraft, The R 27ET is the only long range infrared missile that has the range of about 60 to 80 miles, then the R 27ET would have been, bring a worst situation towards the F22, because stealth cannot hide the heat signature at all, but it can be minimize the heat signature by using limited heat process such as 5 gen engine and stealth capabilities but still it cannot hide the heat signature fully. And another thing the infrared missile doesn't show the RWR and MWR on radar, because it is not an radar guidance at all.

Really surprised at the Foxhound's gameplan here- The F-22's difficulty with a Foxbat or Foxhound- is while they're lobbing missiles- when they get closer- they know things are gonna get tough, so they should go back some distance to the side, and make use of their Mach 2.8 - Mach 3 speed- so AMRAAMS can't realistically hit them at all. Gotta do running passes at the F-22 - AMRAAMS won't have an easy time with a Mach 3 target ... And the F 22 attempting to chase a foxhound or foxbat ...well, i suppose it's a sneaky chase - but it'd be difficult and he could retreat to his S-300 area. And if that S--300's radar is a different wavelength, that's a problem.... Wish we'd see one of these rare Mach 3 aircraft use that speed in a dogfight. Yes, even though for some of them the engines are gonna take a beating- but it's what ensures your invincibility Plus you're fighting a Raptor and your super powerful radar might find him occasionally- but you can't expect him to never be offensive

I'd kinda like to see how a C or EX eagle Super Hornet, Viper, and Typhoon would do. Seems like they would be in for quite a rough fight if the F22 is having a "tough time."

hornet isnt even in the same league as the rest of the aircraft mentioned lol

Man, that was strange! How come an old radar like the one from the MIG 31 can give so much headache to a stealth fighter? And the MIG 31 had a huge RCS, how come the F22 cannot find it at longer distances?
@arnavsadhu2 жыл бұрын
Same way the r37's seekers aren't able to track a stealth f22 even in visual ranges.
@Brody9612 жыл бұрын
A big part of it **could* be attributed to the limitations of DCS and a lot of the specifics for the factors that play into that are still highly classified on both the Russian and American side. Examples being the real world capabilites of the Mig31s radar vs whats in DCS, the real world capabilities of the F22s radar AND electronic warfare vs whats in DCS, and the real world capabilities of stealth and missles vs whats in DCS. Its a great sim but those models are highly simplified and would be impossible to get that real world data for
@ivand56992 жыл бұрын
The thing is that the MiG 31 radar is huge, think about it like an interceptor with an awacs in the nose lol.
@claudiovic98832 жыл бұрын
@@ivand5699 the radar being bigger doesnt mean it can lock easily in stealth, and when you try to lock a target with a tiny rcs like an f-22, the max distance to lock will drop very much
@PandaMan-xy1he2 жыл бұрын
Size. MiG-31BM carries one of the most modern radar systems Russia has yet built, combined with being the largest radar ever put on a fighter. In the other direction, F-22 should see it; I'm not sure what's up with that. Really, 31BM has the best chance a RedFor aircraft has of seeing F-22, with Felon's radar coming up second simply due to size.

The mig 31 is a legend. Keep in mind mig 31 is much older than the f22.

MIG 31 is one badass machine, even it's built in late 70s still one of the most advanced aircrafts today, threats to many, lol people even compare it to f22, truly ahead of it's time.

The newer versions of Mig-31 are Mig-31BM, Mig-31BSM an Mig-31K variants with avionics same as Mig-29SMT but with better radar and longer range missile. Most of Russian Mig-31 are converted to these variants.

Oh Man, I've been hanging out for this matchup, thank you! I'd like to see a repeat of it though, with one lone F-22 trying to invade the airspace protected by not one but two to four MIG-31's, one vs four. That would be a much greater challenge for the F-22 I think.
