Agreed. It looked like the back fins of that missile scraped a new scratch into the paint. How a modern missile can fail to see an object filling like 90% of its view is a mystery to me.
@LW0001 Жыл бұрын
My interpretation is this: RWR is sounding at the time, therefore it was pinging the aircraft before impact. It’s aiming for center of mass, and the closer it gets, the less it’s trying to lead that center of mass. But GS turning into it at the last possible moment tilts that center of mass parallel with the missile while it’s pretty much already alongside; essentially, from the missile’s POV, the centre of mass it should be aiming for suddenly becomes the nosecone it effectively already missed. Therefore, it misses by a hair’s breadth, since it obviously can’t turn 90 degrees in midair. Had he made that turn a split-second earlier or later, I’m sure he would’ve been reduced to atoms. TL;DR: Imo the miss is not because the missile can’t see him (it evidently is seeing him), the reason for the miss was a last-ditch acrobatic manoeuvre that just about worked.

You have to understand, unlike medium range missiles with 100-120 km range like 120C which has a range of 20-25 km for its own radar, for a 300km-400km missile, you need more range from the missile seeker (Otherwise the Aircraft needs to guide it for a very long time making it susseptable to enmey missiles). Because of that, Agat 9B-1388.has a range of over 50 km against Fighter sized targets but due to Russia's lack of expertices in Electronics, it also has a very big size and weights nearly 50 kg. Over a 1000 km of Airspace, not miles, by placing 4 Mig-31s 200 km apart from each other. Their integrated Data-Link continiously share information from each aircraft to other three in the group and each of them can see the overall spectrum of the airspace, combined information of all 4. That enables one Mig-31 to lock and lauch missile to a target detected by any other Mig-31 in the group. This also enables them to create very difficult situation for the enmy aircrafts where one Mig-31 can close the Gap with high Mach speed to increase probability of Kill, launch the missile and run away, making it difficult for the enemy to engage i, and the lauched Missile still can be guided by another Mig-31 behind the missile range of the enemy aircrafts.

What many people on the west don't realize about Mig-31 is the the role it played in the overall strategic plan for air defense. Mig-31 were supposed to work in teams of four, and scan area 800-1000 km wide and 200-350 km deep. The four planes had data link between them to exchange information between one another, but also they could take control over other plane like Mig -29 and su27, I am not sure but I think also Mig 23. So their role was like command post, they designated targets for each plane, and the best part was that the radar signal came form 300 km but the plane that shoots the rocket could be 30 or 50 km with switched off radar. The commander of such a group of four MIG -31 was very often a general. So Mig -31 didn't need maneuverability, it needed to fly fast and as high as possible and as long as possible.

I (like I suspect many of us) are watching these videos from a cell phone with small screens so it's impossible to see all the monitors/radars. It's nice when you somtimes pause the video, zoom in and show what you are watching/meaning. I think he is limiting the area exposed for the missile to hit, a smaller side (edge-on profile) serves as a smaller target (his stealth may also help, maybe the edge on cross-section is favourable.) the distant phase where the missile is turning and angling is important to do as you said but in the final phase for a very high speed hypersonic missiles, a last minute flick could do the trick I think, too early and you risk a big surface for contact., that's why after a few hard turns he maintains a relatively straight direction (idk if I am making sense, im just guessing :P, correct me pls, so I can understand it better too)

So glad to see another F-22 upload, especially on Thanksgiving eve! F-22 is the best fighter, and the Raptor vids are always the best!

It's honestly incredible how dangerous the MiG-31 is to the F-22.

Does the F-22 model have a stealthier orientation? For example, if you head straight towards a missile, is your radar cross-section less than if you are notching?

@@robertkalinic335 The question was, is the frontal aspect of the F-22 being VLO potentially more efficient at defeating missiles than notching, possibly exposing an aspect of the aircraft that is less stealthy. You said, "Thats irrelevant [sic]". Truth is, it's a legitimate question that YOU can't possibly know the real answer to, because YOU don't know the true nature of its stealth. Maybe one day when you grow up you'll understand.

the F-22 definitely has some angles that reflect less but it wouldn't be practical to go head on to a missile, the F-22's stealth is great yes but any competent fox 3 missile is going to see the F-22 at 5 miles, GS is defeating these missiles by notching and any error in notching is less because of how stealthy the F-22 is. I imagine the goal of the designers was to make certain angles more stealthy like front and side, but there is no real way to know. The only thing I have heard is that the F-35 has a smaller rcs than the F-22 from the front but other angles could be either aircraft's advantage.

Every time the Raptor takes off, you can feel the mood of the battle change. At first it was all fun and games. Now, we’re done playing. Shit just got real.
