Well, theres also that brasilian referee that got his head cut off cause he allegedly was fixing the match he reffed at the time. Football is played around the globe and some countries like in SA are quite poor but incredibly passionate about the sport, so the potential for violence is huge. In europe the most crazy shit youll see happen is Hooligans brawling with other idiots and innocent bystanders, mixed in with the occasional stabbing during international matches. Shit like murder basicly doesnt happen in the developed world over football. But the potential for violence is still there.

@@valegaleano3026 Thats not what I was insinuating. Do you disagree that basicly all SA countries are football fanatics? Cause looking back at Argentinas WC win, the WC in Brazil 2014 and the general history of south american national teams, it is rather obvious just how important football is there. The larger the fanaticism of the fans, the larger the POTENTIAL for violence, thats rather obvious. Violent clashes happen regularly, especially for derbys when the atomsphere is heated anyways and this also happens in europe (as I said). The result of these violent outbursts are assaults and stabbings and in rare cases even murders. Im not saying Europe has no problem with violence (in- and outside of professional sports), but I am saying South America has a bigger problem with that. Take the homicide rate per 100,000 in 2021 as an example: In the Americas (North+South) the rate is 15 compared to Europes 2.2. ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_intentional_homicide_rate ) Why wouldnt you expect, that there is a higher potential for violence in SA countries, even if they have bigger crime rates than Europe?

The problem with this topic is that you very clearly stated that us being poor correlates to acts of violence being commited regularly regarding football matches, as if social status has something to do with any of this. don't choose a team yet, I'd rather choose a league to primarily follow, once you get into the sport the favourite team thing will happen automatically. It's not like basketball where most fans follow their favourite players but don't really have a favourite Franchise, in football almost all fans are much more emotionally attached to their favourite club and their national team than any single player. And since you're American you already have a national team to root for, the American national team is about to play one of the most prestigious tournaments in football next week, the Copa America and it's hosted by the US so that's a team you can already cheer for now.

Football is not a supposed to be a physically dangerous sport with full on tackles like American football. Rugby is our equivalent to NFL/UFC etc. In terms of physical contact, football is more like basketball. You're more likely to get elbows, pulls and pushes but there is some nasty leg breaks that happen in football. It used to be a lot more physical and you'd have players who were know to be enforcers but that got cracked down on in the early 2000s.

They’re slowly going away from Englands higher leagues as the league has gone so global, less players with old school English mentality, where they use to have players that would rather break ankles than win games. You’ll find more of these in the lower leagues in England these days. Even then the next gen been brought to play technical rather than play physical.

Bruhhhh!.... football is a 90+ minutes game. Its not every second you will see a brutal tackle. Most of the time the game were played in a very fair game. But the way you react to it as its like each second there'll be a brutal foul. Not all games has to be played aggresively unless some stupid player started it and especially if the reff unable to control the game then "brutal" tackle begin to occur.
