Thanks for watching and for your kind comment. There are very few American Flyer people in my area so the videos are my way of having a “train club” and I’m glad to hear that people enjoy the layout .

Thanks for watching and for your comment. I don’t know what all of the initials stand for but I’m thinking they have something to do with railroads?

@AFTrainsND Yes, RR Police Capt. Penn Central, Conrail, Norfolk Southern. Luckily, I made it through the mergers to retirement. It's good to be retired.

Glad to hear that you found those long-missing pieces in an antique shop. At reasonable prices! Your pre-war pieces are spectacular. I've never seen rolling stock from those years in such great condition.

Thank you. I never had much interest in pre-War trains until a few years ago. I still don’t plan to invest much in them but I do enjoy what I have. It helps remind me that American Flyer existed long before the A.C. Gilbert era. Thanks for watching and for your comments.

Nice job on those additions to the layout. They are coming along very nicely. That would be a really good time seeing a hump yard in action. Good luck with that. Thank you for sharing.

I am really enjoying watching your videos. I am going to try your switch modification. I would love to make a yard with 10 lines to park full sets. Thank you! 😊

Thumbs up for this video Roger. If I ever get my own KZbin channel, I hope to share my layout as you have done. Best regards.

I’m glad you enjoyed it. In one of my earlier videos I mentioned that I didn’t intend to start a channel- I was only posting a few videos for my family and I was rather surprised when other people started showing interest in them. It’s been good for me because there really aren’t any other American Flyer hobbyists in my area (that I know of) so sharing in this way has been helpful for me, too. Thanks for watching.

That Gilford station was worth the effort to get it to fit.

Thanks for sharing your layout and ideas. I had never seen that modification to switches. I might consider that on some of the switches on the second layout I am experimenting with.

I think there’s still a video with more information about this but haven’t looked lately. It could be necessary to add some wiring because taking the rails out of the metal brackets disconnects them from power but I think that’s only a problem if you want power going to that siding regardless of which position the switch is in. In my case, I want power to the siding off when I flip the switches to the main line so it’s not a problem for me. Thanks for you comment.

I, too, have a 290 which probably has the mileage from New Haven to my house in Atlanta. Does yours have traction tires or are they all metal? Mine rocks back and forth on the center driver. Love your track plan.

My 290 doesn’t have traction or Pull-mor wheels. It’s totally steel to steel. Even so, I get all of the traction I need for the load I pull with it. The Hudson’s and Pacifics have a lot of weight to them so that helps. It seems to me that the Atlantics and GP diesels are in more need of that extra traction depending, of course, on high much of a load you want those to pull. Thanks for your comments and for watching.

How do you meet people who know anything about American Flyer trains. I don't know a soul who knows that electric trains are still being made in north county San Diego.

That’s a really good question and I hope others also weigh in on this. I’m in a similar situation. I live in northern North Dakota and, unfortunately, even the local HO club is struggling. I have 2 older friends (I’m 68) at church who still had their American Flyers from childhood that they never run. I bought the Silver Bullet and a few freight cars from one of them. The other has a 302 Atlantic and a few freight cars. I helped him clean those up a few years ago and would gladly buy them from him if he decided to sell. There’s also a young man in the HO Club that has one AF set. I’ve invited him over and he says he’s interested but it hasn’t happened yet. I recently bought a Night Hawk set from one of my wife’s uncles. I’ve known him for 40 years but the topic never came up until a family gathering last spring. The point is that there are a few “closet” AF owners around here but I don’t know of any avid hobbyists. I’ve considered putting something in the local paper but those types of announcements can be really expensive. That’s why I like the comments I get on this KZbin channel as well as the give/take in various AF Facebook groups. If anybody’s interested in forming a group that gets together through video chat every month or two, let me know and maybe we can get something set up.
