@@conorkilhenny5362 I mean......if we want to talk about no original food? Germany. They just adopt the food of those they've invaded/fought. Went down a whole rabbit hole on this one night as I was arguing with someone about the existence of "gourmet German food." Turns out German food is mostly Polish, Austrian, and Jewish from various other countries. There is also no "gourmet" version of any of it, much to this person's chagrin. I already knew all this from family stories as I'm Bavarian, sooo...
@gameznotgames2435Ай бұрын
@@conorkilhenny5362 But as far as original food? We have a good bit. Is any of it gourmet or healthy? Not really. The hard-shell taco is the product of Texan taking one look at authentic tacos (ones with corn tortillas as flour was only introduced after the Spanish showed up and said, "We get it. Corn is great. You know what's really awesome that we have at home? Wheat. Here. Grow it.") and saying, "This should be deep fried." A lot of Southern food can be summed up with those words...that and "Put more cheese on it. More. MORE. JUST GIVE ME THE WHOLE BLOCK." I did not know until my first trip to Cheshire that peanut butter and jelly was a strictly American thing. I got food poisoning and all my tummy felt was acceptable was a PB&J. My mom went to order it, but quickly realized what it sounded like to the person on the other end of the phone: "jelly" is gelatin- Jello. Peanut butter and Jello. You have to say "jam" and even then peanut butter is not really a hotel staple. They were extra sweet and ordered some just for me, though. We also taught a server working breakfast shift how to make chocolate milk in their Wedgewood teapots (probably blasphemy). Mind you, this was back in the 90s, so I'm dead positive that American fare is much more well-known there now. I will say that my Canadian friend who visited was amazed at our fast food sizes: "Wait, I ordered a medium..." "That is a medium." "...What?" "Did you need larger?" "God no." He was also greatly impressed with any local place he was taken- especially burgers, and this was coming from a man from Alberta, so that's quite the compliment. As said, even though we may not have come up with the original recipes for some of our more famous (or infamous) dishes, we made them heart-cloggingly delicious...with grease and cheese.

Just a side note, Charlie; Milk helps flush out spice from the mouth better than water, which just spreads it.

I've never seen an American flapjack. Just looks like a pancake. In the UK a Flapjack is oats, butter and sugar or syrup formed into bars. Been around for centuries. Edit: hol up, they just also called them pancakes. Is flapjack and pancake interchangeable in America?
@ethanrosenberg6570Ай бұрын
sometimes, flapjacks are oat flour based pancakes, but sometimes people call wheat flour ones flapjacks as well, generally if theyve grown up with flapjacks and then dont really differentiate oat flour vs wheat flour
