"World Cup finals" is often used to just describe the World Cup, because people qualify for the World Cup. So everyone qualified is technically playing in the World Cup finals, no matter if that's the group stage or other stage.
@jacklynch78023 ай бұрын
Its a differance between english and american english, finals means the tournament in english but means the final in american english due to the nba etc being multiple game finals

World Cup Finals is how it is referred to state you are going to the competition. "The Final" would be the last match, "The Finals" refers to the whole competition. Beck's goal took England to the competition.

The Beckham goal was to win the qualifying group, it wasn't actually AT the World Cup, but was to qualify for it.

Well, teeeeeechnically speaking, the qualification phase is the start of the World Cup proper, officially. The qualification is for the World Cup finals tourney. But yeah, you're correct. I just wanted to be "that guy". XD

DUDE that Landon Donavon goal against Algeria in 2010.. Im a dutch guy from Amsterdam and i always rooted for the USA on world cups cuz they made my life fun with tv shows/series but they were always such a small animal in football. I always liked Donovan as the big hope of the US even though he wasnt good enough to get a full season of starting picks in any european team. But that US side was fun. Maurice Edu, Oguchi Onyewu and i loved seeing the US break muslim hearts.

It was november of 2008, I traveled with two friends from Rome to Turin at 18 years old to see that Juve Real Madrid match, we were not a very talented side (coached by the great Ranieri) after the recent relegation and things were not going well in serie A, but my childhood hero Del Piero gave me one of the best nights of my life with that magnificent goal just 7 minutes into the game. So unexpected, what a memory!

Minute 10:56 - Before the world cup start, the list of partecipants must be set. To do that a lot of "groups" of teams, based on their ranking, are created and they fight each other two times during the 2 years before the cup start. Each victory is 3 points, a tie is 1 point. At the end, the winner of each group can partecipate to the world cup final phase (the proper world cup championship). Thes matches are called "qualifiying matches"

Zidanes goal was btw the deciding goal in the CL final vs Leverkusen 2002. And the two Ronaldo goals vs Sweden and Ibrahimovic got Portugal to the World Cup. It was a playoff match which one of the two go to the title. Also the Rivaldo bicycle kick shot was 2 minutes before the end of the last matchday and secured Barca a CL spot. Without this goal Barca would have got probably no license for the new la liga season. Many say it's the most important goal in Barca's history. Without knowing the context these goals are not even half as good. Also Beckhams last minute freekick to shoot England to the World Cup was clutch as fuck
@sehu12913 ай бұрын
Beckhams goal was in the qualifiers. Without this last minute banger vs greece, England would have missed the World Cup 2002. And this after people hated Beckham in England for 3 years because of his red card in WC 1998 vs Argentina
@sehu12913 ай бұрын
@@Mamarozan It doesn't matter whether England would have qualified via the playoffs or directly. Back then, the draw was still after the playoffs because there were no such stupid Nations League playoffs. And Germany got into pot 1 despite the playoffs and England got into pot 2 because of the coefficient. So England couldn't have got Germany's group at all because they were in pot 2 one way or the other despite winning the qualifying group

I remember that Beckham goal vs Greece, there was about 4 of us around my mate Paddy's house watching it, I remember when Beckham was setting up to take it, Paddy said to us, "he'll score this, you watch" 🤣 we then went nuts in his lounge about 15 seconds later
@sehu12913 ай бұрын
And this with the whole background story. One of the clutchest goals. England was not far away to miss the World cup and beckham got hate from the whole country since the last world cup 1998 in which he got a red and England lost. Than after this goal in the final qualifing match vs Greece it was all forgotten
@mrmr55803 ай бұрын
@sehu1291 yep, it wasn't just the goal in that game, if im remembering right Beckham was easily the best player on the pitch before that, probably his best all around game in an England shirt, he was everywhere and basically dragged us through that game

@lukessportacademy The World Cup properly consists of the entire qualification phases for the diferent football confederations (Concacaf, Conmebol, UEFA, etc), which are the qualification phases for the World Cup Finals tournament, which is the "World Cup" everyone knows about. But technically, the World Cup starts with the qualifying matches. :)

The top two teams of each group will qualify for the World Cup, while the third-placed and fourth-placed teams of each group will advance to the fourth round. Fourth round: The six teams that advance from the third round will be divided into two groups of three teams each to play a single round-robin.

Beckham scored that particular goal against Greece in 2001, which sent England to the 2002 World Cup. This was in a European qualifying group and England qualified for the World Cup, which consists of 32 participants. The term decisive is used for this as well, but this is incorrect.

The "greatest goals," if football started in the 1990s. Which it didn't. This is a major problem with so-called "football content: on KZbin. Due to the age and inexperience of the creators, most of the "highlights-" or "best of-" type content is limited to the post-2000 period, maybe with some 1990s sprinkled in it. There are exceptions, with accounts that deal with the actual history of football - and they are the ones worth searching out and using..

I really really dislike these kinds of videos that people make....not yourself but the video you react to. It is just massive clickbait and incorrect titles. Most of the goals are from the modern era for starters, secondly most are from well known fanboy players and also how many Puskas award winners are in these types....They really need to reedit the names of these!!!
