"Something amazing is about to happen ", the Ensign lives, despite everything he endured in the battle and then in that whirlpool of the sea.

Yamoto and her sailors left a legacy, her demise. Her survivors like the ensign who wrote this story, and his thoughts on his survival, his duties, and how he survived. In the end the Yamoto attacked was not a glorious naval action it was a " bust" ill conceived, and both the seaborn and air craft attack on Okinawa was from the viewpoint of 2024 a complete waste of resources and men. From 1945 viewpoint it was dressed as an attack that for the civilians worked. The High Command should have surrender them. But they didnt so more people died.

Very interesting. The writer seems to be a philosopher rather than a warrior, as he survived hope he had a good life. Still the whole concept was amazingly stupid.
