😊 Saludos!!

I’m latino American and we have almost no knowledge of southern part of Central America (Panama, Nicaragua), Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay, Bolivia, and Chile. We know little about Peru except of course the food and Incas. But most cultural elements are from Mexico, Caribbean islands, Colombia, Venezuela, and even Argentina and Brazil. Counting Brazil even though different language. Music, movies/tv and sports really drive what we know about other countries.

I do follow a Spanish language KZbin comedy channel and it took me a year to realize what country it was. Enchufetv - from Ecuador. Their Spanish sounds so neutral like it can be big city accent of Colombia (bogata), Mexico or most of Central America. Made me realize that many big cities have similar enough accents that I can’t tell the difference. But someone form cuba or dominan Republic or Argentina, even big city, and I can easily tell they are different.

Can't believe it took her so long to figure out the girl was from Mexico. The Ecuadoran accent sounds very similar to the Mexican. Cuban, though, is different. Cubans tend to drop the final "s" in some words. Similar to the way cockneys drop the "h" at the beginning of some words. I find Argentinians and Chileans difficult to understand, and their expressions and colloquialisms are very different from the Mexican ones. The Puerto Rican accent can also be hard to understand, mainly because they speak so fast. But, for that matter, I find the Spanish in Spain a bit challenging as well. However, the Spanish of professional people in the media and broadcasting in most Latin American countries is a lot "cleaner." Mexican Spanish is very clean, too, but different regions have different styles of speaking, much like Southern accent in the United States.

Those stereotypes in most cases only apply to those Americans that have never even been outside their own state, the ones who travel more are usually the most knowledgeable
@ufo828 Жыл бұрын
And those stereotypes are true, y'all don't even see the wrong in what y'all are saying, goes to show that it's true that people in the US don't know anything about the rest of the world like for example THIS IS NOT AMERICA -> 🇺🇲 AMERICA IS AN ENTIRE LANDMASS OF COUNTRIES, IT IS A CONTINENT, we are all Americans yet you're still referring to people from the US as Americans, when that title does not belong to the US, it belongs to the entirety of the continent, goes to show how true those stereotypes actually are. 🤷🏽♂️
@sarahnadeofpoetry Жыл бұрын
@@ufo828 You're arguing semantics at this point. How stupid do you think Americans are not to know that America is a continent? Technically, it's two continents. But what do you expect those from the US to call themselves exactly? United Statesians? Ridiculous. And it's not like they're blocking anyone else from calling themselves Americans either. Canadians want to call themselves Americans, for example? Go ahead. Never heard anyone saying no to that. Go take your US hate elsewhere.

The mexican tortilla and the Spanish tortilla are completely different things. Mexican tortilla is made with either corn or weat, and they are flat and can fill it, the Spanish one is made of potatoes and veggies and it is more like a quiche. And in South America we don't have Mexican style tortillas at all.

@@lissandrafreljord7913 As a Mexican, the term _"Latino"_ is just lousy! Terms such as _"Latin Asia", "Latin Africa", "Latin America",_ and so on should be used strictly as generic _linguistic_ *labels,* and even then, most of the time, such terms don't do any justice to all the other pre-colonial native languages. And I'm just talking about such terms from a linguistic perspective because I'm not even going to bother to explain how "Latino" or "Latin America" alienates aspects such as pre-colonial culture, traditions, spiritual beliefs, etc. Foreigners should address my fellow citizens first by nationality: Mexican; subcontinent: North American; continent: American; and lastly, only if a certain context requires it: Hispanic American rather than _"Latino"._
