Thanks to the person that refreshed this - I had never seen it. Knew Debra was VC for American/Canadian Idol, but never kmnew of this performance. Debra has always had a special place in my eyes - not only being a fellow Clevelander, same age, same school district, but appreciated her talents, kindness, and willingness to talk to many Manilow fans over the years. Debra has always been a class act and I was so moved with the reaction she had from the audience and especially the 10 finalists. She was extremely surprised and touched - it was a great tribute to her from all those who had experienced her teaching skills and bringing out the best in everyone for their performances. I realize this was many years ago - but in the past week - others have acknowledged her many skills. Byrd - you were and are the Best! Rest in peace while you sing with the angels.

Oh hon, she sang backup on Manilow first 7 albums as part of Lady Flash. I first saw her in a 1977 Manilow concert shown on HBO. Amazing lady with an amazing voice.

Wonderful!! I had the pleasure of working with Debra Bird when she was the choral director for Barry Manilow's UK tours. My choir sang at the Cardiff (Wales, UK) gigs. She was impressed by their singing in rehearsal so much so that she asked me if I was married!!!!! Ah, if only..............

Barry Manilow got her the job. She got her start with HIM. This song was produced and arranged by Barry. Debra has worked with Barry, toured with him since 1975. I could tell you when she was on the road with him and when she wasn't. She is usually in the studio with him on every album he has ever released. Can you fathom HOW many concerts she has performed in with him and been his foremost backup singer, if not vocal director for the other musicians and singers onstage with him? She's a legend. She WAS around when Dionne Warwick recorded this song written by Richard Kerr and Wil Jennings.

Yeah she look a little like Oletta but Oletta is more classy and slimmer and some inflections in her voice may sound like her but Oletta is a much better singer by far a larger extension.of voice and colors and vocal expresion much better..

I was first introduced to Debra Byrd singing back up for Patti Austin on a live album I believe from the early 90's.Patti is introducing the band on the last song of the album and Debra does her thing.The song is called "Laugh or cry",someone posted a live version also.
