regular german groceries would be considered "organic" by most american standards. the "bio" standard in germany just ups the ante so to say- thats why "bio" products are more expensive
@Bloominescence4 жыл бұрын
Makes sense! Thank you for sharing. I only get "bio" products now when I get to the store too late and almost everything "not-bio" is gone and I'm desperate 😂 Oh and if they're on sale and cheaper than the non-bio products!

Hi there! Nice haul, I just wanted to add some info... "Direktsaft" doesn't just mean it's 100% pure juice, but also that it isn't made from concentrated juice. And you don't have to worry about branding, all mozzarella is lactose free. Have fun!
@Bloominescence5 жыл бұрын
Hello! Oh, that's great. I really appreciate your sharing the information. Really good to know. Thanks so much! And I'll be experimenting with different mozzarella brands next time 😍

@@Bloominescence Hey, no problem! It's hard to figure out what all those labels really mean, and how they translate... All while the advertisers try their best to confuse things further by advertising stuff like gluten free gummy bears. It's definitely brave to face a foreign culture, but I hope you can enjoy the adventure! All the best to you!

Totally! Yes, I see that so often. It's important to learn about how to read labels. Even better when someone shares the knowledge 😊 I'm still scared, haha, but it's been super fun so far. Thank you so much! ❤🤗

@@Bloominescence The labels on fruit juice products is strongly regulated in the EU. Consumers have the right to accurate product info, i.e. juice or made from concentrate, etc. You can read more about it here (English and German documents): www.britishsoftdrinks.com/write/MediaUploads/Publications/BSDA_-_FRUIT_JUICE_GUIDANCE_May_2016.pdf and fruitjuicematters.de/files/attachments/.647/FJM_Informationsmaterial_Orangensaft.pdf

Are there people in the grocery store to help if you need locating certain products? Are laundry detergent/dishwashing plastic bottles also part of the recycling kiosks?
@Zwodo3 жыл бұрын
There is always a handful of workers (more in bigger stores) running around restocking shelves and such and they will gladly point you in the right direction 😁 As for the plastic bottles, I'm not 100% sure what you mean by kiosks, but the yellow recycle bins that most households have take pretty much all plastic products. So I end up throwing my laundry detergent and dish washing bottles in there. Hope that helps!

Have you guys been to ALDI?
@Bloominescence4 жыл бұрын
My husband is German and is from Germany, so he's been there many times and he specifically shops there for the Camembert cheese. He prefers shopping at Lidl. I've been to Aldi several times when I visited and it isn't as memorable as Kaufland, Rewe and Edeka for me but only because I've been to the latter stores more often. I definitely want to visit again to refresh my memory and see anything new that they might have. Do you recommend anything from there?
@Pidalin4 жыл бұрын
@@Bloominescence Lidl is good because they have copies of expensive brands which are much cheaper, but mostly same or even better quality than original brand. :-D I don't know how in Germany, but here in Czechia Kaufland is known for cheapest and not much quality stuff.

The bread you took is for hotdogs! There must be some real "Brötchen" somewere, I normally take frozen "Brötchen" 10 min. in the owen and they are like fresh backed
@Bloominescence5 жыл бұрын
I know. My fiancé and his family have been eating them for years with spreads, meat, and for hot dogs, so I just go with what he eats :D We could try other ones if he feels up to it. They take roughly around 10 minutes in the oven, too. I actually like them a lot!
@Zwodo5 жыл бұрын
The ones we took are the small ones. The medium-sized ones (pack of 4) we usually use for hot dogs, but the small ones even say "Frühstücks Brötchen" on the package 😄 We (my family) have been eating those for pretty much ever. The frozen ones imo are too expensive and don't taste as good, I don't like baking up the frozen ones. If you ever get to Kaufland, sometimes they sell super fresh Brötchen-dough ready to be baked and they're like some of the best ones ever! Haven't seen much of those lately though...

I know I'm a bit late, but Rewe should have a dairy free ice-cream called "Rewe frei von (same as your Mozzarella) Fürst Pückler". It's a Strawberry, Vanilla, Chocolate mix. And (depending on how big the Rewe is) there should be some Ben & Jerry's dairy free and so other brands aswell. I work for a small Rewe, which is twice the size of a Basketball field, and we got so many new dairy free ice-cream products this year alone (I'm not saying that they are all good or sell well, but a small trend is visible :) ) I don't know if Netto has something similar now, but Edeka, Kaufland, Real should have some options aswell
@Bloominescence5 жыл бұрын
Not late at all! I will be visiting again soon.The Rewe that I frequent is pretty small, so they don't carry a lot of lactose-free products. I found a super delicious chocolate-flavored coconut milk ice cream at Kaufland, but it's far to get to. The Edeka nearby is not as nice as the first one I visited and definitely doesn't carry that much either 😅 I haven't been to a Real, but I'll be sure to drop by, and revisit these stores and see what they all have. I really do like Rewe 😄 Thank you so much for the information! I really appreciate it 😊

I'm really excited to see what it looks like. Oh, no, I don't know a lot of things. I've visited maybe 3 times in the past year and a half, and since we don't have a car, we just go where the train or our feet can take us 😄 So, really, thank you so much. I love learning more about things I can do there!
