Want to know about Polish people? I moved to Warsaw, Poland a few months ago and I thought I would share a bit about life here... by sharing a few things on Polish people. :D A bit about me - I spent the past six years living in the United States (mostly), and so a lot of my thoughts on Polish people are compared to life in the U.S. By no means are these opinions true for all Polish people. There are also many other things I would love to share!! Overall, I'd also like to highlight that my exposure to Polish culture right now is limited given the pandemic/lockdowns etc. but I hope that you enjoy this video.
Starting to download photos I've taken around Warsaw since moving here - will be posting them from the below account (if anyone is interested) or wants to reach out/connect/ask questions:

I'm a host of a mountain shelter in Bieszczady, I earn 1800zł per month and I'm fine with that, being able to save like half of it every month. My sister earns about 7.5kzł after 10 years of working as a concept artist in computer game industry and her salary is considered high in Poland, but yeah, 5000 złotys at the start is something most Poles can only dream about. :)

I think people are just really genuine, we dont like to pretend... If we are happy we smile and laugh and when we are tired, angry or sad you can see it. I think its a good thing because you can make real reletionships that are deep and meaningful. If we care we really care! Take care girl ❤

Wow, actually I never thought of melancholy that way, but this is so true. I tend to be melancholic very often, but that doesn't mean I am depressed. I get pleasure from listening to sad, dark and gloomy music while driving a tram in Poznań and looking at cloudy grayish sky at the same time.

With terapeutic valiue of complaining you have right. American people do not speak openly about problems they kept smiling and go to profesional psychologist. Polish people make at least one complain to family member, friend or even stangers per day. And do not need prossesional help. Of course you should kept balance with it to not be toxic for people around. But if you openly can speak about your bad day, or random problems I think it is helthy. Greets from Poland.

Yea but on another side, if you look at it they complain a lot but for me living in the US I see People that are super nice upfront but when you dig deeper they will empty miserable...like they have no goal I live...like they are missing something. When in Poland you always get REAL friends and family next to you to spend time with and they are really happy.

if you can speak Polish, you'll find a lot of people for chit chat everywhere. Warszawa is weird place for me, I had the same feeling in London. maybe it's about capitol cities in general. Poles are not sad. We just don't express ourselves in western manner. Weird that you haven't mentioned that people are still looking at you :D have fun and visit more places. Poland is vibrant and beautiful and people are nice ;)

to nie jestes z warszawy ? :D I agree that it might be a capital city trend. As far as people looking at me...I haven't really noticed that, maybe on days where my appearance is strange. XD I definitely would like to get out of Warsaw for a bit and see more of Poland. I once visited Krakow (on a highschool field trip) and have some distant family in a village outside of Katowice...and that's about it. so I need to get out more lol

Complaining is the polish "small talk" ;) believe me :) :) :) We do this when we want to start conversation with a stranger (for eg. in the lift). English people does the same with talking about weather or talking sarcastically... I remember when an old and ellegany Englishman told me that I miss the plane "because there's gonna be a tsunami" :P nope, he didn't say that I'm planning to get up too late and there is a traffic in the city... he made up stories to make the conversation flow and flow 😆 And Polish people are like: "feel my bad!", "everyone is mad" "we can have different worldview but I'm sure we feel pain about the same small things". To understand that better (and I can hear you know polish) - I reccomand you to watch a film "Dzień świra" it simply show the life of typpical paranoid Pole ;) And you said it so proper - complaining can be a national teraphy :) :) :) Maybe it has something in common with our history - we were oppresed many times...and there is a polish proverb which describes it very well: "You meet the best friends when you are poor/misery" (Najlepszych przyjaciół poznaje się w biedzie) :)

I remember, when I was in US, it was super annoying that in every single store they haunted me smiling and asking "how can I help you". Being from Poland I was not used to that. Eventually I've started to avoid eye contact. I guess they might start thinking I'm a thief while I tried to avoid being near store employees. Restaurants were even worse, because, obviously, I couldn't keep away.

The only negative thing I can say, because I really LOVED Poland, involves animals. I wish they would be more open minded to people like me who are vegetarians, and understand that many of us love animals. That is the only thing that really bothered me. I wish they would treat animals better, and be kind to animals.

Woah, you’ve added a lot of cool video elements since your previous video! 🌟 Are you by chance studying computer graphics in school? I’m glad you have family there to help you integrate, bc your grandma has already helped you learn THE most important part of successfully living in a foreign country (something that many expats unfort never learn, even after 30years of residency) - namely to “respectfully integrate” into society by always remembering the old golden proverb “when in Rome, do as the Romans do!”. Following that rule is even more vital to a successful integration than, lets say, fluently learning the local language -IMO as an expat in a neighboring country.
@PlexiGlasss
@PlexiGlasss 2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure whether they added much to the clips, but yes definitely playing around with each video to see what I can do!! And no, nothing so creative, so I guess this has been a fun outlet. I think you make a really good point. Of course language helps to navigate, but taking their lead/trying to follow how the locals do sounds smart. Where are you currently situated? When I think of "expats", I think of how they are often involuntarily sent to a new country i.e. for work. In that case, the interest in X culture is minimal, integration superficial (just to get by/temporary). Moving to Poland has been out of genuine interest for my Polish background, so I think it might make a difference in my approach...obviously helps to have a grandma/family here to help advise...but even I don't always do as the Romans do! :) It sounds like you have a lot of experience abroad!

I agree with everything. Poles even themselves joke that complaing is our national sport. I think it's also a way to bond with others. Great conversation starter with strangers, for example while waiting at a doctor's office 😆 Punctuality is a must! I think not being puctual is very rude and shows lack of respect for the others' time since they have to wait for you, while they could be doing something more enjoyable or productive. Of course shit happens sometimes (late bus etc.) and everyone understands but it's import to communicate in such case.
