American McGee's Alice Remake Fan Art

I want to thank all of you, who continue to give me feedback and appreciation on my work! Really, you are breathtaking! Many are asking me if American McGee has seen the video and I will try to respond with this message in the least critical way possible. I am a 3d artist, I work for video games, and in my spare time my job becomes my number 1 passion (along with video games). Some time ago I decided to do this fan art by imagining a possible remake / new chapter of Alice. All as a tribute to American McGee. I've paid tribute to someone I respect before (Tim Schafer with Psychonauts). His feedback was a simple thank you Tweet with an "awesome" that made me ultra happy. That simple comment gave me the strength to continue in the industry and become a full-fledged 3D Character Artist. With American McGee, however, a rather bad thing happened. From the very first day of this project I was waiting for his feedback. Every time he went live I tried to share the video waiting for a simple judgment. Weeks went by and still NOTHING. During the live shows he ignored my link. After more or less a month I receive a notification from him where, in a not exactly polite way, he replies with something like: "Yes, I have already seen your link and I have already told you that it is good. But now stop it otherwise I owe you block on all social networks ". I went to see all the live shows, all his tweets and posts on facebook and his feedback I never saw a trace. I don't know if my project is getting in the way of his remake, but what I wanted to do with this video was just a tribute to him. Person I respected. Today a little less. As you can see from my profile I continue to live by creating other personal projects even if honestly this story has left me a little bitter in my mouth.

Your solo project has more creativity and talent than McGee's busted Patreon project(s) will ever have. Since Madness Returns, we've only ever seen McGee show off empty promises, underwhelming projects, and his ego. McGee may be too busy with his own Yandere Simulator Scam, but I wholly appreciate the work you've put into paying respect to this classic game and I especially appreciate the red trimming detail.

How many years has it been since he started doing pre-production? How much money have people paid in? Is it possible that we are still stuck with the artworks? I don't like this way of working ... But in the end it's his choice and apparently people like it.

@@paolopallucchi8054 I wouldn't call it a workflow as it seems as though the Patreon is allowancing for commissions of the concept art... followed by a discussion/stream of that concept art. It's very Jilly Juice lmao. Also, that Patreon was originally intended to finance his 'life at sea' - not for the development of a new Alice game. Food for thought on that one... It's been 3 years of investment for a handful of concept art and a 3D model... which is embarrassing considering his resume'. Nevertheless, AMA remains a fond experience - regardless of his namesake in the title as the finished product wasn't victimized by a lofty (pre)production cycle (AMR's concept art and initial trailers are quite revealing).

While the animation's somewhat twitchy, there's still a lot to love about the detail, the expressions, the atmosphere. Just a little touching up with the aesthetics and this will be amazing! The Cat has never quite been known for his subtlety, but something about his smile being less pronounced makes him seem cooler here. If they do remake the game itself, I hope they redo the voices, not that Alice and Cat's voices are bad, but potentially hearing the voices evolve would be very much appreciated.

I don't know what to say, no matter how many words I string togeather I cannot fully express my awe and amazement. One thing why I loved the games was the "atmospheric horor", no cheap jump scares, no ridiculously tough oponents. Just the atmosphere. This reeks with destiled atmospheric horor. Also, I get some "shadow Alice" vibes.

I didn't know I'd stumble this gem of a fan art! Truly mesmerizing that there are so many fans out there who enjoyed America McGee's Alice. I've read through the pinned comment and I understand the pain of when a personalized gift was seen as "annoying" or "spam", although now years later we understand now that even he can't ever make Alice: Asylum anymore with EA being a shithead on their part as well. Okay, wow. This is ridiculously good! Your models of Alice and the Chesire Cat look so realistic, I'm really impressed. That coupled with actual dialogue and music from the game and you get one hell of a fan tribute. Honestly, this has more production value than Alice Otherlands. He replied annoyed - I think - because he didn't want my video to affect the people of the patreon. He says he has already answered me but I have NEVER received any feedback from him. If you go on his patreon you can see Alice's official model. The author is mentioned only with the name "ROMAN". Why? I wouldn't want the people who pay the patreon is the same to be working on the project. If so, paying to work is one of the worst things that can exist in this sector. I hope I'm wrong. This really is a gem, a diamond in the rough! The texture detail, animation fluidity, model designs, lighting... it’s all so fantastic! Usually fan made videos are a bit off in some way, or have a sort of jankyness to them, but this completely solid! Anywho, I can tell that your level of work comes from a place of passion, in which case I do hope you continue doing so! I was disappointed that American Mcgee's reaction was so negative, but you did a wonderful recreation of the work, the air of Alice's madness on her face is a detail that helps a lot, The Cheshire cat as a sphynix cat was a genius insight and the details in alice's dress fit so well with the Wonderland landscape concept that is portrayed in the game. I REALLY like this! Is better then a lot of other arts created for Alice Asylum, a Remake for American McGee's Alice would be better than a new game for now, and i really liked! (Just some feedbacks, not trying to be rude or something...) ° Chesire Cat doesn't seems like a cat and a bone texture in him would be better, like: make him not so fat (he seems a little fat to me). ° Alice hair could be in the back of the dress, not in the front (in my opinion), maybe a Ponytail? And just that, but is really awesome, it's a little sad that McGee answer you that way. And i'am pretty sure, that... If this was a bigger project, probably EA would accept this idea. This is stunning! The animations a bit janky at times (like Alice's hand and Vorpal Blade clipping through her dress) but that's not really what I'm focused on - moreso the modelling you've done! The amount of detail you managed to show is remarkable, her individual hairs, the lace on her apron and petticoat, and the fabric of her stockings - it's all so visually appealing. The only thing that's a bit disappointing is the lack of expression given to the Chesire Cat, but due to his more realistic modelling I can understand. Overall, this is a gorgeous piece of art and I can tell the love you put into it. Although you used dialogue from the second game, her outfit, and the overall vibe of the animation reminds me of the first game, which is what I think you intended anyway. It really does feel like a revamped AM:A with a more personal and detailed take. I'd love to see more animations or even a short film with these graphics. You're very talented! I hope American can see this, I'm sure he'd love it, too! (:

No matter how madly I like canonical models, in my humble opinion, these models, from Paolo Pallucchi, are in no way inferior to them. I love everything except the Tim Burton styled face on Alice and the largeness of chesh. However I do love that chesh looks like a naked cat breed which works for his original concept. The dress was bomb with the amount of detail. Chesh's face was perfect. I find this style a little weird but omg i adore this dress and the walk animation! The dress looks so wonderful in the right shots (it does look weird in the wrong shots, for example the ribbon on the back is a little too big) and the walking animation is so smooth and realistic!

Pretty cool animation, I love McGee's Alice. Your rendition of the cheshire cat is interesting, looks like a Sphynx cat. The only thing that looks off is their gait, Alice is walking like a supermodel on a catwalk (no pun intended).

Lol Alice walks like a supermodel in Madness Returns, too. I had noticed it a long time ago and was just waiting for someone to point it out. Her gait is so confident 😍

It captured the Gothic nature of the game and your animation improved its "Gothic-ness". I am a fan of Gothics like Hexen (but I myself don't dress up or act as one)

No joke, when I first saw this I thought it was a legit movie advertisement and then when I read the title I was like awwww man! Can we please get a studio to pick this up and have you be the lead animator/ artist!? Also if I may offer some critique. at the 0:13 mark I noticed the cat was in a leaning back position, only the legs seemed too far spread apart. If you see a cat stretching or leaning back, their legs are more inward. moving the joint a bit more to the center and arching the cats back may help. Then at the 0:47 mark, Alice's dress fold seems a bit stiff. The dress does move but the fold on her white apron piece is maintained almost as if it's just pasted on there. Not only this but her arms seem a little on the stiff side while she walks. The leg movements are perfect though! So smooth and natural! Same for Cheshire. Literally her walk, movements, and swaying is smooth like butter! Love it! Also at the 1:22 time stamp, her arm to the left seems to be twitching a bit. I'm not sure if that was intentional or not to sell the creepy factor but adding it her other arm or a slight twitch in her head movement can make it look like it was a part of her demonic side. Otherwise it looks unintentional, at least from my perspective. Also I loved this story change as well. It reminds me of a college assignment I had for digital painting where we had to take classic fairytales and reimagine them in a twisted tale version. It wasn't necessarily horror, but more so putting it into a new setting and style. For example, someone did Alice in Wonderland as a traditional Japanese style with the Queen of Hearts as a Geisha. There were also floating islands in the background, it was really cool. Someone else did Snow White but in a mad scientist lab and the dwarfs were looking for a cure to wake her up. Sorry this is so long and hope my feedback helps/ can't wait to see more!

And also I like your version of her character desgin and costuming more than the original. It has much more style to it but still keeps the essence of Alice! I also like your version of Cheshire as well, but I like the other one from the game as well.

Alice Madness Returns has been my favorite game since I was little, I've been in love with it ever since it came out (was 10 at the time, now I'm going on 20). I'm sorry about McGee, I never imagined he'd simply ignore such great work and not only that, but a very cool tribute to one of the most beautiful games ever created! I'm happy I found this channel, your work is amazing and I loved the entire 1 minute and 43 seconds of it. You are so talented, continue making art and who knows.. maybe you'll make another Alice Fanart for the fans of this game, I know I'd love to see another! The way you designed her is so lovely! I actually like you’re design of the Cheshire Cat better than the Alice returns design,it’s very sleek and realistic something I’d design myself (I’m also a visual artist),also the collar on the Alice dress 10/10 love that touch it almost makes her look more like a vampire or creepier
