If you're Chicano/Chicana, you'd understand the part, "How about become a citizen?" We're Mexicans in the U.S. and Pochos in Mexico. We're not wanted in either country. We're a race on our own. And it don't matter how successful you are. Sad but true. The saddest and lowest part of this is when our own kind is racist towards you. A very powerful scene in this part of the movie.

I had a friend in Nursing School that was Mexican/American. She spoke of her pride in being Mexican, but disparaged the Latinas in Sororities as stupid, working class immigrants as 'dumb choonts", and cholas as "barrio trash". She told her friend, in front of me one day, she was glad her mother did not give her a "chooty name like Guadalupe. When I lived in Southern California, I heard Mexicans refer to Blacks as a "bunch of pinche mayates". The idea of racism is one that all groups have to deal with, and deal with what is in their own group first.

I think he meant transitioning from an institutionalized convict to a citizen. Sounds like you're projecting your own insecurities. As a chicano speak for yourself. Brown and proud American

I love the meaning and symbolism of this scene cause these are things that happen in the streets everyday, coming up in these rough environments you got nothing else to lose but to adapt and survive and it can fuck with your love for anything

She is a good woman but just cannot understand his life. He did not wanna do bad but its all he knew. Not many people go through whole life not having to do anything rotten to survive. If have not your either lucky or a saint.

Always blame the person who deals DRUGS what about the ppl who go Lookin for them drugs and get a fix it goes both ways ! Real talk can’t just blame the dope dealer

You're right. But my comment over all about this scene is not about drugs or a dealer. It's about someone being a true speaker in someone else's life. Not seeing things for what they really are until someone else says it. That's all. But thanks for the comment.
