The killer’s mom is a piece of work, too. She tried giving the little girls ice cream with nuts in it, knowing full well that one of the girls had a food allergy. She defends her son till this day, and hates Shannan till this day as well. She bullied that poor woman so much it’s ridiculous.

@@Natalie-gb8tt Wow, never thought an apologist would reply to me! She did try to give the girls ice cream and she did leave out bowls of nuts at her house while the girls were there. I don’t care if it’s another person’s party or not, when you have someone who can die from a food allergy, you don’t just deny that food item from the person who is allergic to it. You don’t have it in their presence at all. I know someone who is so allergic to peanuts that she reacted to it from someone who was on the same bus as she was on. She was lucky she had her EPI pen. It’s fun being childless and single after all. Jesus this case disturbs me every time I watch it. It’s how he lied and said he didn’t mind for the media to say she did it. I was speechless. And if she did kill her own children, why wouldn’t you call the police and say that rather then putting the babies in an oil tank, and for what? He really thought that made sense. Not shocked of course but still. Ugh this is vile on another level.

Exactly! As a single father, I’ll be dammed to let anything that bad happen to my kids. I stopped “dating” after seeing how many step mothers have killed kids to have all the attention from the dad. My kids’ mother left because “she wasn’t getting the attention” she wanted. My parents have been going crazy ever since I (the youngest) moved out of the house! When you have kids, you’re number one obligation is to raise them to be good, if not great, people. We have needs as parents but the needs of our children are more important than anything else! gf.me/u/ynqi9r If folks would like to help a family in need.

Why didn’t he immediately lawyer up, knowing he was guilty? Why did he confess to his dad, knowing the cops were listening? Why didn’t he leave town immediately after he did what he did? By the time the nosy friend came around with the cops he could have already landed with the kids to some non extradition country. The doc says the day after he unenrolled the kids and called a realtor to sell the house. Totally sus! So yes, this was the most poorly meditated premeditated murder. (Not condoning murder at all just saying...these things all just seem like basic common sense when it comes to committing a crime)

Gelie Gones that’s true. But as soon as they called him in for questioning and asked him to take a poly, looking innocent should have been his last priority. Perhaps he wanted to get caught 🤷🏾‍♀️ Should have just divorced her and moved out. Went through all of that for what? 2 days of “freedom”?

My dad passed away literally hours before this crime happened, and as a true crime buff I didnt even catch on to this case until a few months later due to my own grieving. But for that reason I guess this case has really interested me. Around the same time that people were realizing Shanaan and the kids were 'missing' was the same time I found out my dad had passed away during the night. Maybe its knowing that this family was grieving at the same time as me that makes me feel more connected to this case than a lot of them Ive researched. This isnt 'found footage' it shouldnt even be compared to any movie out there just because its REAL and not just a movie

Everything in the Netflix documentary is footage that's already available on KZbin, in every conceivable arrangement and order, all for free for anyone to see, albeit with much lower quality production value in the editing process, perhaps. But, there's essentially NO need whatsoever to go out of your way to buy a subscription to Netflix just for this one program, at all. If you already have Netflix, great! That's a bonus, I suppose. It's definitely worth the time to watch it. Especially during this current Coronavirus lockdown. (Most people buy Netflix for more than one show or movie, of course lol like I get it free with our cell phone service family bundle plan,) But, it's really nothing new, and once you've seen the whole story play out, the only real lingering question is, "Why?" (And "When?" "Where?" "How?" and "What?" as,well, but all in relation to the aftermath, instead of the actual event.) Why would he do what he did? How did he think he was going to get away with it?! What did he think everyone was just going to move on without asking any questions, without trying to figure out what happened to three distinct, different people, each of them with their own personalities, likes and dislikes, medicines to take, appointments to keep, mouths to feed and lives to lead? When did he think he would be able to move on to his new fantasy life with his girlfriend Nichol?! Where did he believe they were going to be able to go, to escape all the memories and swarms of people still asking questions?! What did he think was going to be his future, when getting caught was still, in HIS mind, unacceptable? We've all had plenty of opportunity to pick apart the whole timeline, from when Shan'ann got home that morning, to his latest interview from Prison last February. All the police are finished with their investigation work, and the armchair Detectives on KZbin have absorbed EXHAUSTED the situation and drained it DRY. Besides all the various disparate conspiracy theories going around still, like about his side-piece Nichol Kessinger being somehow involved, (or more involved than either she or the Authorities have admitted to, anyway,) there really isn't anything more that can be discovered about the case. I'm just sayin' 👍😇

There are some great videos on this case here on YT. One in particular looks at all of the body cam footage and analyzes Watt's body language during the initial police visit, and the interrogations. He points out a number of things the documentary misses or doesn't show, such as Watt's referring to his daughters as "those kids" several times, and during the initial police visit the officer gets in his radio to ask a question and Chris jumps in shock, probably thinking the cop was calling for backup.

He didn't say he lost it and killed his wife.. He said " I had to kill her " in response to her (in his first version) killing the kids. I find that very interesting. He claimed rage. Well rage would be losing it, but "had to kill her" was a confession of him planning these murders. As far as planning these murders. Yes, he planned it like a teenager would. No thought of afterwards or the trail he left. I do believe he tried to kill the kids (or thought he had -cause the kids woke up) before she got home and when her plane was late there was no turning back. I think if Shanann's plane had not been late coming back, he would of had more time to clean up and stage the crime scene. As some one else commented in another video, I don't think he thought Nicole (Shanann's friend) would be over there looking for her less then 12 hours after dropping her off. I wonder how this would of panned out if he had time after work to come home and cover up more evidence.

A polygraph isn’t admissible in court but most people don’t know that and it’s a useful tool during interrogation. I think there are places where detectives aren’t allowed to use them, in the same way that detectives cannot lie to the suspect (ie. claiming to have evidence that they don’t, etc.). Anyway the detectives on the Watts case were very skilled however the case was an easy one and Watts didn’t present much of a challenge.

Two things I think that you guys didn't mention that were important were 1) as the documentary slightly addresses, around the time of the case there was a SEVERE smear campaign against his wife because people believed what he said, so I think there was importance in making a documentary that literally just shows the evidence of the case and objective evidence of their life that clears her name for anyone who still had doubts. 2) the note at the end of the doc, and Martin's point about how cliche the story of "guy gets goodlooking and thinks he's too good for his family so he gets rid of him" showing just how common this is regarding IPV/DV. Personally the lack of frills makes this a more respectful and less sensationalized version of True Crime addressing trends of violence in our culture. Not to say that the ratings you give are wrong, and you guys were very respectful but I think these elements do add value to it as a film and to the genre rather than your actual viewing experience. If True Crime could move away from turning these everyday cases with real victims into a spectacle and instead into addressing the social backgrounds and patterns that come with these crimes, it could be much more impactful. That's just my opinion after watching it. It's for a similar reason why I Am a Murderer was so popular, probably.

16:57 What's interesting as well is that polygraphs don't work, and they can not actually prove anything. But what they can be used for is getting a confession out or gather other information from the suspect by making them stressed out. You make them believe that the machine is all knowing and will reveal everything (so you might as well confess), that is why the tester is lying about it in the clip and saying that "soon there will be two of us in the room that knows the truth". Because you are allowed to lie about what the machine can do. Anything to further the interrogation. Interesting stuff.

He said the reason he didn't get a divorce was because he wanted a fresh start , a new life. He couldn't have a new life if he had an ex-wife and children still there not to mention things like child support. The only way to have a new life was to obliterate the old one as far as his family goes. He didn't think anyone would notice she was gone for 24 hours so that he could have time to clean up when he got home but then her friend kept trying to reach her and it started the whole thing. The police said he already suspected Chris Watts. In fact he does a fake call like he's having him arrested and you see Chris's face panic which is what the officer was trying to get at. I haven't seen this particular documentary so I don't know if it covers the fact that he actually killed the girls first and then went and killed his wife. Then the girls came into the room, alive, so took them with him and smothered them in their blankets. It's why he stuck them in the oil tanks so they couldn't wake up again but would stay dead. Chris stated that Bella tried fighting him off and her last words were no Daddy. His wife actually gave birth as she died. Chris's parents continue to say that Shannon killed a little girls and he killed her at every. They also said it was Shannon's fault because of all the way she provoked in. The two girls and Shannon are buried under her maiden name. Chris had to be moved because his fellow prisoners found out who he was and tried to attack him. He's in solitary confinement 23 hours a day. He asked for and got a picture of his family. The only other thing he has is a Bible because he said he found Jesus.

Polygraphs are not allowed in any way shape or form in courts because of the success rate of polygraphs. In tests done, it has been revealed that polygraphs are only around 60% chance of being correct. Which means that 40% of the polygraphs given are going to show FALSE results. WHICH GOES BAD IN EITHER WAY. If the killer takes it, and they are part of the 40% who gets a test that shows he told the truth, that would be like letting a killer go free. If an innocent person takes it, and they are part of the 40% who gets a test that shows they LIED, they could go to prison even though they're innocent. Thats why polygraphs can't even be brought up in court, it cant even be MENTIONED. It's just useful for cops to help them investigate faster, but even cops don't rely on it completely.
