I have been saying this for a long time, even to myself - that instead of being an activist that can and will be ignored, I and people like me, should try to win within the system and then apply pressure with leverage ... but I am finding it very hard, because to do so requires moral concessions almost all the time. And I am sure this is how the system is protected from most of the would-be status-quo changers... they are either weak within the system, or become strong while being corrupted in the process (in a majority of cases)

That’s one of the flaws of democracy, not everyone is right. Majority rules isn’t a good strategy, it isn’t used in schools, jobs, or anything else that is important, besides voting

And i think that capitalism is however an instumental part of why democracy does not work for major issues currently - basically, capitalist democracy is not even a majority rule. Take the UN for example with Israel, or Russia or US and Iraq. There has neber been a 90% agreement of the UN on something clearly wrong. So Russian invasion was opposed Israeli 100 war crimes and occupation is opposed and Iraq was opposed. Because capitalist lobbying is not strong enough to sway all the countries in the world. So that is a true majority vote and it is usually 100% correct. But it is extremely easy to corrupt and/or control individuals within government by using capital... so the "democracy" for instance in the US, is a barely veiled plutocracy / oligarchy. And even when that is obvious, it is nearly impossible to oppose unless you have a vast majority, within the system... even if you have like 70% majority opinion, this can still be turned by spending a lot of money on propaganda and desinformation... and if an individual wants to do more, they have to own more capital... so they need to play the game and play it according to the rules and play it well. And that filters out people who already oppose the rules, so you are left with mostly the people who agree with the rules, so they wont use their power to change them.

Educating onesself to engage productively in the mechanisms that determine what kind of future we, and the rest of the world create for ourselves and for our children to inherit, has either become too misleading or frustrating for people. Maybe people have cared passionately and participated about voting in the past only to see how little their voice was heard by the lesser of whatever 2 evils we were given to choose from and lost hope at this point. Either we have all become too ignorant, or grown too greedy and selfish, or just said "fuck it. What difference does it make?" and sat this election out- whatever it was, we chose against our own best interests and those of the people around the world, at large. People dont realize how much worse things are about to get in the next couple months, globally and domestically. We picked a pilot for our plane that only knows how to crash land into the ground because he said his plan for landing would be faster than anyone elses + we dont need to remain seated or have our belts fastend, because, you know-"freedom!", blah blah.... Its is going to be a very troubling few years. I just got a bloody nose from simply thinking about it.

Often, khutbah’s emphasize having “good company.” American Muslims are often looked at as being “bad company.” Weak iman and not educated or manner able enough to be considered to be invited to Iftar let alone a business deal.
