for a goal (6pts) yes it has to be kicked. And it doesnt matter if the player is out of bounds, its the ball that has to be out of bounds for it to be called out of bounds. Another great reaction!!!

So the question. Has to be kicked into goal if it's touched before it goes in or taken over the line by hand it is a point so the one you paused on for a bit was actually a defender trying to save 5 points and just failing. But also. If it's a goal goes back to the middle for a centre bounce. If it's a point the ball is turned over to the defenders and they start from the square in front of the goal.

Hey mate, I agree with Peter, the Carlton blues 16 flags, had a terrible last 20 years, but still had lots of heart. If last year was our turning point this year will be exciting. Got a great young squad with some absolute superstars, and last year's beownlow medallist. Check him out Patrick Cripps, also last year's leading goal scorer Charlie Curnow, and year before that and I think third this season Harry McKay.

From a learning perspective, what you’re doing when you call out something you’ve learned is called reinforcement, and a great way to cement your learning. 4:21 the off the ball block you noticed is called “shepherding”, because the player blocking off the ball is acting as a shepherd to the ball holder

Agreed. But also, you could do a lottttt worse than the West Coast Eagles 🦅. Generally very successful on field, lots of behind-the-scenes stuff to be proud of, some flashy superstars, their venue is probably the best live and on TV too. Would not recommend the Pies (Collingwood Magpies). Last season it would have been fun though! Loads of exciting close games, but that can't last in the same way really. They're a proud club who've had quite a bit of success but they're the club almost everyone else loathes. Seen as arrogant and overly self-important, traditionally their fans are the Australian version of rednecks, they've had an ongoing racism scandal for the last decade or so, and their cheer squad talisman just got convicted for kiddy fiddling. Loads of great teams to support though, you'll find your way.

Look at the colour of their SHORTS and socks, they are different and easier to pick out if you are unfamiliar with the jumpers (shirts). I think more than just players going to the NFL it's the technique Aussie rules has contributed. Much like how soccer changed the way field goals are kicked, what the NFL calls an end over end punt came from Aussie rules. We call it a drop punt.

A handball through the goal is a behind. Players can go out of bounds, but if the ball stays within the line, it's still live. The score signals are two hands and two flags for a goal, one hand and one flag for a behind. The ball can be kicked without possessing it. Taking a mark gives the player an option of a free kick.

You asked the question on if there have been any AFL players who became punters in the NFL. I know of 3 professional, and one in college. Darren Bennett played as a punter in the NFL. Saverio Rocca did as well for the Eagles, and Ben Graham did for the Saints. If I remember right, I think Graham won a superbowl the year he was traded to the saints. Don’t quote me on that; because of the AFL, I don’t follow the NFL anymore (I haven’t since 1994)! The son of Dustin Fletcher opted out of the AFL to play gridiron yo here in college. I don’t know which university, though.

In terms of AFL players who transitioned to being NFL punters, there's really only a handful of true standouts. * Darren Bennett played 78 games for Melbourne & West Coast before an injury forced him to retire but he was a pretty handy forward. He then played 159 NFL games and was in the team of the decade in the 90s. 2 All Pros, 2 Pro Balls and is in the Chargers HOF. * Ben Graham played over 200 games for Geelong and captained them for a few years. In the US he played 99 games with the Jets, Saints, Cardinals and Lions over 8 years. Bit of a journeyman but he was the first Australian to play in the Superbowl. * Sav Rocca played 257 games and kicked 748 goals for the Magpies and Kangaroos. So he was a very good full forward and had a younger brother who was almost as good. He played 112 games over 7 years for the Eagles & Redskins. There's a young Aussie bloke tearing it up as a punter for the Bearcats named Mason Fletcher whose dad Dustin is a club legend for Essendon. He suffered a back injury aged 17 so he chose not to chase an AFL career but he's got as big a kick on him as his old dad, two months ago he actually punted the ball from his 5 yard line and it went out for a touchback at the other end.
@athlonen
@athlonen Жыл бұрын
One thing you have to remember here is that unlike the NFL, AFL players kick for distance and accuracy. So while a lot of those kicks looked like they were luck, they are actually taught different ways to kick the ball. The balls that curve in the air are called banana kicks (the curve in the air is in the shape of a banana), or check side. There’s the drop punt (which is what mainly happens in the NFL), the dribble kick, and the torpedo. #1 from Malcolm Blight and the one from Daniel Bradshaw are torpedo kicks. Notice how they hold the ball as they start their run up to kick, as it tells a lot. Something you’ll also hear that is comparable to the NFL: Jukes = Selling candy, or foot candy. Stiff arm = Don’t Argue You’ll get to those with Dustin Martin or Andrew Krakoeur: the Candy Man. I’ll also throw in that you need to react to Eddie Betts. You want some goals that you can’t believe, watch him.

Hi Johnny. You should follow the Gold Coast Suns The Gold Coast is Australia,s holiday capital like Florida in USA. The Suns have been in the competirion for 11 hard years. But now we are winning games with good recruiting & depth. Our seconds team who play in the lower competition have won all games this year except one.This is very important as good players there can move up to the senior team. Our coach of 5 years is now seeing great improvment & we hope to make the finals this year. The next few years are going to be terrific as the team gains more experience. GO the Mighty SUNS.

There's a few players that have become punters - although probably less than you might expect. There's a story of Darren Bennett (sorry if this exposes my lack of understanding of NFL) who went over to the US to be a punter. During one of his first games an opponent carrying the ball came toward him, and instinct kicked in, knocking him out cold - and he couldn't understand why his team mates thought that was so unusual. EDIT NB: The moment you pick a team you'll find a lot of people become less friendly because in their opinion you picked the wrong team (I'm enjoying your videos even if you don't pick the Dees :) )

[8:30] You said "He tapped it in (for a goal)". No the defender tried to touch the kicked ball to prevent a goal. If he had managed to touch the ball and it had crossed the line he would only have conceded a minor score, 'a Behind' worth one point. The defender failed to touch the ball so it was a major score, 'a goal' worth 6 points.

Some of these are good not because the goal was particularly spectacular, but because they were 'clutch' goals, which are game-winning goals kicked with little to no time left on the clock. And yes, the ball has to be kicked through. It must have made contact with the attacking player's foot or shin (must be below the knee) to be considered a goal. If a defending player is able to touch the ball after it is kicked though, it is not a goal, even if it goes through the big sticks. Also, it doesn't matter if the player is out of bounds as long as the ball isn't. Just something I personally found interesting - faking out an opponent being referred to as 'breaking ankles' in NFL. In the AFL it is referred to as 'selling candy.' No idea why lol.

Hi Johnny. I want you to check out the 1989 Grand Final. Watch the game first, (if you haven't already seen the documentary), then watch the documentary. You could do a reaction to a highlights video. I feel you about the clashing jerseys, here's a tip - look at which team is wearing the white shorts and the socks are different. Collingwood Magpies (my team) is black and white vertical stripes, Geelong Cats are the horizontal and their colours are dark blue and white. Carlton Blues are also "Navy" blue and white. North Melbourne are blue and white vertical stripes. Collingwood vs Nth Melbourne is confusing (esp in B + W), just look at the shorts. Nowadays the AFL make the teams less clashy, usually one team will wear the white shorts (the away team) and also a mostly white top. When Fremantle changed to their now purple and white it clashed with Carlton. Now when they play the away team wears a white outfit. You will notice in the older games that the umpires used to be in all white. Changing this made it possible for one team to be mostly in white, nice and easy to see. Nuff on uniforms, for now. I saw your Jets vs Minnesota, bad luck there mate. Did you see my Ravens? We pulled out a win over Denver with a different QB. I didn't see what happened to Lamar Jackson #8. I hope he is ok. St. Kilda Saints forward Max King has injured his shoulder in training. He will need a reconstruction. That does not sound good. That team has the worst luck with injuries. Off season they are the worst for some reason. 1989 GF. This game had so many greats of that era, the 1980s. Collingwood and Essendon were great teams and had great players, but Geelong and Hawthorn had some huge stars. Geelong: Gary Ablett Snr, Gary Hocking, Billy Brownless, Barry Stoneham Hawthorn: Dermott Brereton, Jason Dunstall, Robert DiPierdomenico "The Dipper" and Johnny "The Rat" Platten. link to game - kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4C8Z6OdrseBgZI It is called the VFL Grand Final, the league name was changed to the AFL after this match. The first game of the 1990 season was now the AFL. We will explore 1990 later. 😀 If you punch it through the goal, they will call it a behind (1 point). The signal for 1 point is like a goal but with only one hand. Sometimes a goal umpire will signal that the ball was touched by tapping his hand with his (or her) other hand, then signal the behind. If the ball hits the large goal post the ump will touch the post a few times, then signal one point. See you soon Johnny Basement. 🤠Watch the '89 GF and tell us what you think. About marking, I'm guessing that the others have explained that it is different to a catch in Am Football. This is partly due to safety. Aussie rules allows a player to let go of the ball so they can use their arms to land or fall on. Also, a defender cannot knock the ball out after the catch like in Am Football. But all of this is subject to the umpire, that's why you hear calls of "he's paid it". This is probably why some players try and hold on to the ball for as long as they can, so that the umpire cannot think that they dropped the catch. Every now and then an umpire pays a mark that was actually dropped and doesn't pay one that they should have. They are human beings and there is no time to have a review. These incidents keep footy fans busy with complaints about the officiating. The old "we was robbed". Fans used to have a nickname for the umpires back when they wore the white uniforms. Baby fly, but not as nice as that. If you are KO'd (by a punch or by hitting the ground) after catching the ball and then drop the ball because you were unconscious the umpire will pay you the mark. Very different to NFL. In NFL if you get KO'd it is ruled an incomplete pass or a fumble, depending on how long you had the ball for. I love both games as do you now.

Yeah, Even though my Jets had fallen behind early 20-3, they came roaring back only to fall a yard short of winning(Berrios dropping that potential game winning TD pass didnt help matters either🤮) But hey, Im usually looking at draft positioning at this time of year BUT this Jets team is still in the thick of the playoff race!! @mikeythehat6693

The players feet can step out of bounds , that's fine , as long as the ball stays in . There are four Boundary Umpires that adjudicate this . The Goal Umpires give you the two Finger Guns if it's 6 points , when it's a Behind they only give you 1. At (2:43) you ask about a player tapping it through with his hand , well that's a player from the other team (from the one who kicked it) . A goal must be from a kick and untouched by ANY other player , if it get's touched (but still goes through the big sticks) it will only count as a Behind . So , players from the other team will ALWAYS try (if within reason) to touch any ball that is going through the goals . The player in this example probably succeeded in touching it but it was already over the line (That's why we have Goal Umpires) . At (9:48) we see another player trying to argue with the Goal Umpire , that he touched it before it went through (but the Goal Umpire just ignores him). Lot's of ex-AFL players try out for the NFL as punters , many have succeeded . (you could look it up as easy as me) You CANNOT tackle anybody who does not possess the ball in this game Johnny , there's actually a rule against that , you can bump them out of the way or Shephard your player in possession but you cannot put hands on a player without the ball (Holding the Man rule ) You can manhandle a player without the ball if it is in direct competition for the (incoming) ball as long as your eyes are on the (incoming) ball and not the player .

Mr enthusiasm! Love the passion. Just have to say though, that they're all 6 pointers Johnny ... it's a goals compilation. 🤣 Yes, it must be kicked to be a goal ... as long as it makes contact anywhere below the knee it is considered a kick. You'll notice one team wears white shorts which means it is their home game. The other team will wear a colour. It used to be black, and was a bit tricky when we only had black and white TV. The Geelong Cats have hoops - dark blue and white; Collingwood Magpies have black and white vertical stripes.

Righto, I'm half way thru. If an opposition player touches the ball before it goes through the goals,it's one point and the goal umpire will signal with one arm ,not two. When your confused by jumpers one team will be the home team and gets to wear their coloured shorts and the other team will have white shorts. If the jumpers clash in colour then one side will have a clash colour that looks nothing like the other teams. A player can run out of bounds but the ball must be inside. When it's a tiggy touchwood decision the benefit of the doubt usually goes with the player and it's play on. Also look at goals 2010-2019. Wait till you watch Dusty, he's the Tom Brady of AFL .

Darren Bennett was the first Aussie to play in the NFL. Ben Graham played in a Super Bowl for the Arizona Cardinals. He also played for the NY Jets (Johnny's team). I remember this because it reminded me of the Elton John song "Benny and the Jets". Sav Rocca played for the Philadelphia Eagles and (maybe) some other NFL teams as well as Collingwood and North Melbourne. They were all punters. I always thought that Rugby League players might be able to transfer their skills to American Football. Jaryd Hayne played for the SF 49ers but it didn't work out. He left them to play in the 2016 Olympics in the Rugby sevens for Fiji. Apparently his dad is part Fijian, whatever. Problem was he didn't make it onto that Fiji team. Guess who won the Rugby 7's gold medal? The women's was won by Australia. Fiji won the men's gold medal. Hayne came back to the NRL. But then he got in trouble with the law. I am not sure if they let him out of prison. Anyway he was trying out for the Running Back position at San Francisco, but they already had some good rookies at RB, so they got him to do kick returns. They guy had tremendous talent, but he was too old when he went to the States. The NFL should take a look at some of those guys when they are still young. The guy was the best Rugby League player in the world at one time, but playing in the NFL was his dream. But he dropped the ball when he played special teams as the returner. His first catch. Luckily he got more shots but that first one left SF with a bad impression. Pity as one of the positions he played in RL, fullback has to catch many kicked balls and return it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rX_NnaaJltWpaNE

@berranari1 Darren Bennett was the 3rd Australian to play in the NFL. Colin Ridgway was the first 30 years earlier in 1965. Ridgway played some Footy for Carlton U19s, he was more famous for High Jump and competed in the '56 Melbourne Olympics, he came 7th clearing 203cm. His biggest claim to fame is being the first Commonwealth athlete to clear 7foot (213cm) He ended up playing for the Dallas Cowboys for handful of games and the running drop punts didn't work well so they let him go.

It has to be kicked through for a goal to count. The reason that player was trying to tap it through is because he’s on the other team. If he manages to do that, then it’s only a behind and they rob their opponent of a goal.

Usually train twice aweek and keep learning until they r super fit, agile, goal kicking speed average 12ks per game they even learn the specky(catch) when they r little kids, if your really good u get pick up by top teams, u usually have to be a freak to make it big time😂😂

It gets a bit confusing when Geelong , the blue and white hoops plays Collingwood , the vertical black and white stripes , or North Melbourne blue and white vertical stripes , but they make clash jumpers especially so you can pick the differance . They also wear shorts that are dark or white to help. Of course Collingwood refuse to change their jumpers for anyone , wankers. If you want to go for a successful team Geelong are almost always up the top of the ladder and won this years grand final . The Geelong Cats are the oldest team to win it but they have recruited a bunch of very good young players this year so they might be a good team for years to come. Geelong are the second oldest team in the competition and have a smaller country city feel about them.
