Don't let the bad news get you down -- there's LOTS of good news that media mostly ignore.
Amazing innovations like technology that lets a monkey playing computer games using only his mind, satellites beaming internet to remote parts of earth, and falling cancer death rates.
----
So you don’t miss the weekly video from Stossel TV, sign up here: johnstossel.activehosted.com/f/1
----
The above new technologies are all reasons that tech innovator Joe Lonsdale is optimistic about America's future.
He's now started a podcast and KZbin channel called "American Optimist.” He highlights positive things that his innovator friends create: / americanoptimist
Those breakthroughs include flying planes, 3D-printed houses, and more, featured in the video above.

"I'm sorry but in order to be optimistic we are going to need you to fill out these forms, pay a $250 administration fee. It will then go into processing which usually takes 2 to 4 years. Once approved you will need to fill out an optimism license application and the $2000 fee. It will then be submitted to the inspector who will need to come and inspect to be sure you meet the legal qualifications for optimism, the inspection is $1500. If you pass the inspection you will be allowed to be optimistic but will need to renew your licensure annually for a $400 fee."

If it takes 10 years for a drug to get to market, how did the covid vaccine get to everybody in the world so fast? Also, if it takes that long to determine the safety and efficacy of a drug, why are those vaccines being pushed onto everybody? I’m not an anti-vaccine person, just pointing out the hypocrisy of the government. The drugs mentioned in this video weren’t developed by the large pharmaceutical companies. There’s your answer to both questions.

Politicians worry more about their bottom line than getting back into office. When the economy was sinking, they put their bets on big pharma and propped them up with massive profits (courtesy of the tax payer) in order to hedge against their big losses elsewhere. Had they done nothing, then they would not afford to pay their union dues, oops, I mean election fees to get re elected. At this point I do not know because I just thought that it would be interesting to know how much biden and trump has vested into big pharma, which may explain why biden "won."

@@mattfoley6082 How did he "let" in covid? CCP tried to cover it up and most countries in the world got it. (1)When the origin was suspected to be China, Trump made a travel ban to the country. Biden called the move xenophobic and the WHO said travel bans were counterintuitive. (2)Trump started a task force in December 2020 to investigate the new pandemic. Meanwhile, Nancy Pelosi was encouraging people to attend San Francisco's Chinatown celebration. (3) Back in the 2020 Presidential Debates, Biden basically admitted there was nothing different he could have done, except being more vocal on mask wearing. (Travel restrictions, research funding, etc..) To note, he can only encourage mask wearing since the Executive Branch can't force a federal mask mandate. (4) People bash Trump for not encouraging people to protect against Covid, however the CDC at one point told us not to buy masks and it should be reserved for medical personnel. The CDC didn't start telling people a cloth covering would be helpful until April. (5) He used Operation Warp-speed to make the vaccines which many Democrats doubted and questioned the vaccine's legitimacy. However, Trump encourage people to use the vaccine and Biden has been ordering more of the same vaccines created during Trump. Ok, now you explain.

I remember when my dad put a small addition on our summer house. It was to add a sink, washer and dryer. You would not believe the hoops the town's inspector made him go through. He had to prove some sort of engineering plumbing feat which a regular plumber probably couldn't do. I'm sure if my dad had used one of the town's "guys" all of that would have been "taken care of". Regulation often sounds reasonable and logical on the face of it, until you're the one who's actually trying to do the work to code. And then you find out it's rife with corruption and ridiculous hurdles. Like trying to get an out of state boat trailer registered in NYC. Or running a new gas line to hookup to a backup generator.

I have a playlist on here called Good News, created early this year. It’s got less than 10 videos. Competition is so important, among individuals, states, companies, etc. as learning from others results so impacts production and knowledge. I’ve something to present which is utopian today, but it’s been reality in the past: Imagine a small central government with fewer departments, employees (don’t worry… they’re humans and there’d be more jobs), responsibilities, buildings, equipment… use your imagination to wonder what could be eliminated. Now think how much less the cost and interference. Picture no one needing a lawyer to do their taxes and a tax code… smaller (much) than 90k pages. The IRS would have to deal with the people who refuse to pay the drastically reduced amount, but most citizens wouldn’t ever deal with them. They’d need fewer buildings, workers and revenue. They couldn’t be tyrannical for the lack of ability and purpose. Anywho, 50 states trying things is essentially 50 labs running tests, all learning from successes and failures. It’s almost like people do this throughout our lives. Monkey see, monkey do. Monkey see, monkey not do.

In NJ, we're coming up on the 1 year anniversary of the population voting to approve the sale of recreational marijuana. However, we still can't buy it because the politicians are busy forming committees and writing legislation to ensure that they (and their friends) can grab the largest possible piece of the revenue pie. Incidentally, EVERY politician claims they supported the legalization of pot in order to "reverse years of discrimination against marginalized people". So in the future, if these marginalized people want to benefit from marijuana sales, they will need to read through the 60 page regulation that's been written and hire lawyers to file applications and ensure that they have all the proper permits and licenses. I'm guessing that the local street distributor isn't going to go through all that trouble. Bottom line - government sucks at everything.

You WANT people to have their small planes flying into homes, animals, power lines, etc., without some oversight? We have enough unnecessary wrecks on the roads due to carelessness of drivers, not regulations.
@oldsguy354
@oldsguy354 2 жыл бұрын
If carelessness is the primary cause of wrecks, (I too believe that it is), why do we get even more regulation? How do more restrictive regulations on the people that do care help? If someone doesn’t care enough to pay attention to pay attention and learn the necessary skills now, how does making the whole experience more burdensome/expensive for the people that do care help? I think selective enforcement of those regulations (largely because they are cash cows for the enforcer) simply breeds resentment and contempt for the regulations/regulators. As an example, going 85 in a 75 (I live in Texas) is more likely to bring the full weight of the regulations upon you than things that are far more dangerous like going 40 in a 75, or backing up or stopping on a controlled access highway for any reason other than an absolute emergency (which are usually caused by the carelessness of another person on the roadway).

I agree that our quality of life is extremely high, but it’s also on a razor’s edge. Our infrastructure especially our electric grid is extremely vulnerable and if that goes down for any real length of time it’s going to get ugly. There are lots of reasons to be thankful and optimistic but one bad day and our entire civilization could crumble.

A Krakatoa like eruption anywhere in the world is a very bad day. A wide ranging EMP over a couple of key cities is a very bad day. Have you seen China’s new missile, that could lead to a very bad day. A major biological attack or chemical attack in multiple population centers is one really bad day. There was a hippy method developed back in the 60s of using shotcrete that's better than 3D printing. Least it makes more mechanical sense. That's pretty bad when dope smokers have better ideas.

Since this disease is zoonotic, we never expect to fully get rid of it and do expect there to be a new strain every 6 months to one year.
