Thanks for sharing your knowledge. We bought a tree from california and brought it to utah. For almost 4 years the tree just come out towards the end of spring. It does this for almost 4 years and finally 3 years ago the brunches stayed up and did not die. Then, last year we were so happy because it bear so many flowers but, all of them dropped to the grown. Of our dismay, when we found out in one of the nursery here was selling persimmon tree, We went there and got us one for $150. That was last summer. We were crossing our fingers hopefully it will survive the harsh winter here. Then, just 2 weeks ago we found one flower just like the female tree flower that you showed but the other small tree still have a lot of flowers just like the male tree that you also showed. Now we know the difference between the 2 because we were thinking to cut that male tree down. Now we are so excited and keeping that tree. Thank you so much for sharing .

I've read the same thing: This is a self-pollinating variety (whichever one they're talking about), but I kept researching and reached the same conclusion. I'm now waiting for the tree to flower so I can see if I have a male of a female plant. Thanks for sharing.

Sharing that experience acquired over so many years of personal care and observation is priceless, and is such a wonderful gift to us! Thanks! One can better hope to win the lottery, rather than been given this information from 99.9% of the nurseries. One maybe rather not that important question, for a future video on persimmons - why do in Japan the gardeners peel off the bark every year? What real benefit is behind?

thank you for this video! I recently planted three deer magnet "self pollinating" persimmons. Your video makes the most sense to me so I planted 4 American persimmons seedlings nearby and hopefully one of them will be male. Once the sexes are determined and if more than one is a male is it possible to graft a female on that rootstock or will the tree be too big at that point?

Watching this video, I learned that my 5-6 yrs old Fuyu persimmon tree is a male tree (flowers look like the flowers of your male tree). It's been flowering a ton in the past couple of yrs, but they all fall. What are my options at this point? Buy another tree and plant close to it? How would I know the next tree won't be a male again? Thank you for the information.

Hi, there! Honesty, if your asking my opinion? I always like to say..."For what it's worth"! I'd buy a Saijo and a Nikita's Gift and plant them right away so that they can get well established this year. Fuyu is a good non - astringent variety, but it doesn't come close to the two I've Reccomended, in my opinion. Also, you can buy Fuyu in the supermarket! It's not a rarity. Good luck! Lou Monti

What variety of American Persimmon produces the most fruit & at what age will it produce ?
@loumonti102 жыл бұрын
There are several, of course, but among the American varieties, I like Yates. Thanks for watching! Lou Monti

I have a Nikita’s Gift I just planted in ground. What would you suggest as a male tree to compliment it?
@loumonti103 жыл бұрын
A male, common native American persimmons tree, is the best pollinator for Nikita's Gift, in my opinion. Good luck! Lou Monti

Lou, regarding the Japanese persimmon varieties, in the comments you recommended Chocolate and Cheesecake as good pollinators for Saijo. (Perhaps you meant Coffee Cake, and not Cheesecake.) Are you saying that Chocolate and Coffee Cake persimmons are always going to be male pollinators, or would you recommend planting three Chocolate or Coffee Cake varieties in hopes of getting a male?
@stevegaines-vq3bd2 ай бұрын
I've watched videos that said Chocholate & Coffee Cake are a great match, somehow they pollinate each other....

From the looks of it, we have the same persimmon tree. Ours is a male also, but it has two trunks growing from the roots, and I wonder since only one has fruit on it, could the other one be female? Also, ours has the same problem with the leaves looking like something came and chewed off half and left the rest. But only on the limbs that has fruits. Ideas?

It is true that sometimes a female, Humanly modified American Persimmon tree, can have a male branch or several male branches, occasionally. Regards, Lou Monti

I don't understand why people title their video "American Persimmon" and then talk about everything BUT the true AMERICAN PERSIMMON TREE! That is truly a disservice!!

I had a chocolate persimmon planted with my seedless Fuyu and saijo, and the darned thing pollinated my seedless persimmons. I want unadulterated, seedless persimmons. Got rid of it and I’m back to seedless. Do you get seeds in your fuyu persimmons? Also, saw your video on yellow long neck vs riverside figs. Certainly, saved me some money.
@loumonti103 жыл бұрын
Hi there, Mike! I don't grow Fuyu. I prefer the astringent varieties of Persimmons over non Astringent types. In any case, Fuyu is readily available in the super markets, where other, much more delectable, varieties, like Saijo and Nikita's Gift, are not. By the way, both Choclate and Cheesecake are very well known pollinators of Saijo, perhaps the best persimmons variety in the world today! Good luck, Mike! Lou Monti

@@loumonti10 Do you have to plant several chocolate or cheesecake cultivar to be sure it's a a male? Or can this asian polinator havec both male and female flowers,meaning just one is ok to get along with sajo? My plan was initailly to plant: 1 fuyu 1 saijo 1nikita 1Jiro 1 Ogosho and 1 american Prok If I understand correctly as I get just one american(prok),I won't get froot from prok ?(no cross polination between asian and american?) thanks in advance

Where did you buy your male persimmon tree? Most nurseries that I have looked don’t specify whether the tree is a male or female.
@loumonti103 жыл бұрын
Hi, there! I didn't buy my male persimmons tree. What I did, and this is my suggestion, was plant three indigenous, American Persimmons trees together in a rather large triangle. Then I let them grow until they became fruitful. In my experience over the years, more trees, planted in this manner, will be male trees and so the hope is that at least one will be a female tree. Once the sex of the trees has been determined, and if you are fortunate enough to have a female among them, remove the third, unwanted, tree. If all tree are male trees, then, remove two of them. Kind regards! Lou Monti

Check out MIssouri Forest service nursery, or any state forest nurseries sale trees very cheap. They should have the native American persimmons.
