I was watching something else and seen the ad for this. I started watching and couldn't look away. I freaking love that westerns are getting popular again. They never really go away, but once in awhile they just don't do as well and then one does amazing and then you get all kinds of new ones! Hell on Wheels is another good one.

No. 8 episodes. THE BOYS showed that you can do something REALLY compelling for just 8 episodes. The STREAMING ERA means you DON’T need 10 or more episodes, like the CABLE ERA, or 20 plus episodes, like the BROADCAST TELEVISION ERA. Also, it should go for 5 or 6 seasons MAX.

Spot-on review, Austin. I had a similar reaction watching this as you and couldn’t stop binge watching it. The violence was shockingly realistic and not sanitized like most such depictions. It was visually stunning, written and performed well, never boring. AP made me grateful I was born in the 1950’s compared to 19th century Wild West!

I live in Tucson, Arizona. I am 55 years old. I have always had an understanding that I live in Mexico. I love the true history of America and have always supported the truth that so many Americans do not. That any white person is truly an immigrant regardless of how many generations. As Americans, it's actually really simple. If we can ALL just admit that this country was brought to prosperity by the strength and virtue of all nations, cultures and races and treat one another as such, we can truly be the "Great America" that some groups seem to think we have already achieved. It's not about being "woke", it's about being conscious of the foundational strengths of America and acknowledging them. Only then can we truly be great!

I enjoyed this series. Reminded me of The English. Taylor Kitch was a beast. I found myself getting annoyed by Sarah not following his advice and almost getting them killed. Questions though: why was Sarah in Philadelphia, who was the man she killed there and if she had a husband in Crooks Springs...why didn't he ride out to get them himself??
@MAGAISDUM13 күн бұрын
I think he left them when Devin was a baby and promised to send for them but never did. Sara set out to find him after she murdered her lover. Or maybe Devin’s father was never her husband and she married the man she later killed. She says he was abusive to her and Devin.

2:27 the extent of Brighams ‘brutality’ about getting more land was sending a family to places like Wyoming, Mexico, Colorado, or Arizona to build a cabin. Biggest threats to people were the elements, not natives the army or other pioneers. He was known for having decent relations with local tribes, much better than the drought relations with the US govt.

Hey Austin. You should really check out the new netflix limited series that came out earlier this week from famous Japanese director Hirokazu Kore-eda (Shoplifters, Broker, Monster) titled "Asura". It's very very good, only 7 episodes long, and deserves more love. Easily an early contender for best tv series of 2025 and likely could end up in my Top 10 or Top 5 at the end of the year potentially.

The team behind this show could absolutely nail a blood meridian adaptation. It’s rare for something that can pull of gratuitous violence without being overly gratuitous if that makes sense. Like it walks a fine line and lets the violence speak for itself but it’s never glorified or done for actual entertainment value. My wife and I watched it all in one go last night and we loved it. It does a good job of showing the brutality of all sides of western expansion much in the same way Hostiles with Christian Bale did without really picking sides. It just shows that violence is still just violence regardless of who is doing it or why.

I have not watched the show but am very well versed in the events at meadows massacre. My only hope is the director understands how the Mormon religion is set up and did not just bunch them all together. It was a bishop of a ward in Utah who committed the attacks and many in his congregation in their city, NOT the Mormon leadership and Brigham young. If the story does not explain that it’s gonna be a Huge L from me and very historically inaccurate. but I’m hoping they do the story justice even tho from the sounds of this review they don’t.

Somewhat of a spoiler... I like the way the chick ends up liking the life with the tribe. That was actually kind of common in the Old West. Some tribes would kidnap people in raids or trade for them with other tribes and probably even white and black bandits. You could start as a slave even, but end up as a full member of the tribe and adopted. Native Americans seemed to understand the importance of Genetic Diversity long before other cultures. Good to see a show not completely make out native americans to be savages.

Two of the members at mountain meadows massacre got excommunicated and one man was executed. Felt like they had a way missed opportunity to show actual justice being carried out at a time where very little could be found. Just opted for brutality and had a shoshoine tribe massacred for basically no reason. Would have loved it more if it were good people can do bad things type of storyline but they just went with the by the numbers plot like of course Kisch's character was raised by Indians. Haven't seen that story enough.

Mormon justice? 🤣 slap on the wrist
@gibster962414 күн бұрын
@Dfthg-bz3hp I'd hardly call an execution a slap on the wrist. The payoff would have been way better to see an actual sentencing taking place rather than, "hey you know this guy you don't like? Yeah, he takes an axe to the head from a guy he shoots in the chest." This is why the Hatfield and McCoys is so much better. Everything is much more tense and well played out and they don't go crazy with the action while sacrificing actual story telling that gets me to care about anyone who dies. Heck Isaac was the only character I liked and his death was so blunt and predictable it nearly made me laugh when it happened.
