Simplicity in life is closeness and sharing and being truly alive. The movie (and the book) are written in such a way that one way to read them is that Patrick never actually kills anyone or does anything homicidal or insane, that they're all just fantasies and delusions from his own mind. One way to read this scene is that Patrick's drawing on the table is just a hallucination of his own mind, and not actually there. It's equally justifiable that he did actually draw it, and the world he exists in is so self-absorbed that it doesn't even notice it, or notice when he says he needs to act out homicidal behavior on a massive level. It's really up to interpretation

@@LordVader1094 Well actually its thought that no one believed him because Paul Allen isn't actually dead and he imagined everything he did in his head through his drawings, like when he blows up the police car with the pistol unrealistically and when no one comes out of their room to check on the women being chased by a man with a loud chainsaw. @carlpanzram20122 жыл бұрын
@@KK-wq1kk He did kill Paul Allen. The movie is about the dynamic between Patrick Batemans sick mind and the sick culture he lives in. On one hand he looses grip on reality and imagines killings that are not happening, on the other hand his environment is so superficial and vain that they are not able to see the killings that are Happening. When he kills a homeless or a prostitute nobody cares because they are deemed worthless, when he kills Patrick Bateman nobody care because people can't even tell each other apart most of the time. This makes Patrick realize that nothing he does matters. His murders were meaningless, his confession was meaningless, meaningless to him and meaningless to everyone else, he hardly even exists at all. He is a antisocial schizophrenic with no sense of self perfectly adapted to a culture of people with no sense of others. In my opinion the scene that perfectly embodies this is the scene where he has prostitutes over. He pays woman money to listen to him cite trivial musical facts. He is not a real person, and his environment is not a real social environment. But that's just my personal opinion. I think the director failed to show that some things were definitely real and some were definitely imagined. Ive read he regrets the last scene because it gives the impression it was ALL in Batemans head, but it's obvious that he intended to display other times that SOME of it was definitely just in Batemans head.

It's ironical that they both seem terribly unconcerned to each other, even though she cries that loud. She cries because she has to 'be seemed like' she's sad. Like posting on Instagram without any special meaning..
@prysrek88583 жыл бұрын
Yeah, she faked the crying for attention. When the guy left she instantly stopped crying and sighed, because her act didn't work. It was never about him or their relationship. It was for her and especially her status.
@flavio71803 жыл бұрын
Indeed. You can clearly see that she’s not crying at all. At first I thought it was bad acting, but seeing that she immediately stopped when he left, it was a fake cry done on purpose.

Those were the girls he was only involved with for sex and partying without any emotional attachment. In the book he actually spares one of them after they have sex and he wants to kill her but she is nice and friendly to him saying that he's the first guy to actually be sweet to her and not all macho, which almost brings him to tears. Most of his sex partners are as self-obsessesd as Bateman himself, which lets him kill them without empathy. The only exception is a former college crush who told him she doesn't care about him anymore - but even that may be his violent daydreaming after having his heart broken.
