Kicking was good, the short kick passing was very impressive given you guys rarely use short kicks. Short kicks go to many players who are on the move to they can easily get to kicks near them. Handball passing takes some practice to nail accuracy & direction while bouncing on the run isn't done that often by non professionals. You can also ground the ball, rugby style, on the run as an option.

I couldn't quite see the form for the handball, but just as a rule of thumb (pun indended), the ball should be getting hit by the outside of the index finger and the thumb (so the back of your hand faces outward). It makes a flatter surface to hit the ball, meaning the pass will be more accurate. Other than that you picked everything up super quick so great job man 👍

He was hitting with the heel of his palm, with fingers clenched. Very much not the correct form. Your description of the technique is basically correct, but I'll add it's best to hit just above the point of the ball to induce backward spin similar to a drop punt, which improves accuracy and distance.

This is very impressive for someone who has never played before. Kicking it 60 meters is what most guys can do ON THE RUN, so doing it standstill is mad. Handballing like that is definitely legal, but very inaccurate. Hold the ball in the palm of your off-hand, make a fist with the other, and hit the ball with the part of your hand thats between your thumb knuckle and index finger knuckle. We teach this to kids by calling it "scooping the ice cream". Ball should either be going flat or have some sort of backspin. Will make it much easier to pass accurately. Your kicking is fantastic for a first timer, just try and drop the pointy end of the ball on your foot to create backspin. With that canon leg of yours, you'll be slotting goals from 50 meters out very quickly!

The reason why you hold the ball near the middle is to control it better for bouncing and hand passing. To bounce it you want it to bounce on the middle (flattest area) on the bottom side (opposite the laces). You were trying to bounce it on the pointy end too much and throwing it onto the ground. You really need to more "push" the ball down with the flat of your hand like you're dunking someone's head in a swimming pool. Handpass you want to hold the ball flat in the palm of your hand on the bit you're trying to bounce with, with your hand underneath the ball (cradling it), and punch it on the pointy end with a clenched fist off the stable platform of your other hand. Make sure you tuck your thumb around your index finger so your hand looks like a scroll (or an e or reversed e, depending on which hand you use). Don't puch the ball with your thumb tucked inside a fist, that's a great way to break your thumb. Hope this helps.

RE your shots for goal, you would most likely develop better accuracy over longer distances by giving yourself a lengthier, rhythmical run up. Altho I also appreciate this would take some time to develop given you are used to kicking off only one or two steps. Some AFL players go back as far as 30 metres (33 yards). You might not need that, just enough to build up some momentum and allow you to get good distance without feeling you need to over kick the ball.

Handpasses are usually used for shorter distances, but most players will tend to use them for speed within about 5-15 metres (15-45 feet). Some of the bigger, stronger players, mostly midfielders or rucks, get lots of practice in centre clearances, and can even handball as far as 25-30 metres (almost 100 feet). But mostly it's not for distance, but the speed of disposal under pressure, or accuracy on the run to bypass an opponent and get the ball to a man who is running free.

I just finished watching your video with the Australian footballer teaching you how to kick drop punts. I then watched this video with you kicking the Australian football. You did a pretty good job of kicking the Australian football. 69 yards is 62 metres (you deduct 10% from yards to convert to metres) If you learn how to bounce the ball and also how to handball the ball it will help you understand how to control your American Football when you’re kicking drop pants. Perhaps she can watch a couple of Australian KZbin videos on how to hand pass an Australian football and practice that. It’s all about controlling the ball including when you’re kicking a drop punt. I only ever played junior football but I was a really long kick. Precision is critical in getting long distances. Good luck with it.

So I rated the last of the first batch of torps you kicked, you caught it right and the trajectory was excellent. There’s going to be a tendency to get underneath them for you. To combine accuracy and length for a right footer you are going to have to drop it out to the right a bit more, and even aim right of centre. They do swing and typically come back left as they rotate. They can and do spray off to the right seeking the sweet spot, but that is the art. Sadly very few people at the top level bring out the torp anymore, it’s just an after training thing along with kicking drop punts from the boundary. Just quietly Darren Bennett could kick a torp. The drop punts were pretty good, nice contact. Inside 45 I had a straight run up and drop, usually rotated the ball back towards me a bit in the drop. Further out the ball has to go out to the right a bit in the drop and you get a bit more length from the rotation from the hips, if that makes any sense. Practice jogging while bouncing, that’s where it’s at. Handballs were dodgy, get the action right first at short distance. And for the record I once saw a player hit 8/8 people calling for the ball over 30m blindfolded. Brian Douge, hope I’ve spelt that right

Shots on goal aren't always from directly in front. Some kicks take place nearly on the goal line with up to an 85 degree angle (after the player has taken a mark, the equivalent of a fair catch, at that spot). Most kicks would probably be taken at an angle of 15 to 50 degrees from goal.

Practice yeah, but as a total sped back in the day I'll say that the fastest way to get decent at it is just one tip that people don't seem to explain to you, you're usually expected to just figure it out yourself: just visualise a curved arc where the ball leaves your hand and then hits the ground juuuuust behind the front end. If you do that right, it will naturally bounce back in roughly the same arc that you threw it. After that tip, yeah, just practice. But I spent years not understanding how every other kid could do it until I figured out that tip for myself, and then it was just suddenly easy and obvious :😜
