Otyken means something along the lines of a sacred place where warriors lay down their arms and talk with each other. That's why they were exchanging weapons for instruments at the beginning. Otyken is made up of Siberian indigenous people representing several different tribes. They are geographic neighbors of the Mongolians so it's not surprising that the similar throat singing would be a part of their culture.

The name of the band Otyken (in Türkiye turkish Ötüken) is the ancient capitol of many turkic tribes. So Ötüken is a holy city for most Turkic clans and has a very important meaning in turkish Mythologie. The language, the costumes, the instruments and the throat singing.. everything here is Turkic origin. My mother tongue is Turkish so many words she sings sounds familiar to me although this dialect is very old. random yet perfect choice! Otyken is a very modern group; I'd say they play World Music, but this is not true. They adopt world music to their own original Siberian taste. Phenomenon, Altay, Genesis, Storm, Kukakacha, ... are also worth wide audience attention.

"Altay", their collab with Ummet Ozcan is fire. He's a very prolific singer, producer, and DJ. The band's name is pronounced Oh-too-ken, with the "Y" sounding like "ooh". There are English lyrics on most of their videos. Also, the beard on Ach, the throat singer, is fake; there are other videos with him wearing it too.
