2 fun facts: 1) there is a clip of Karla brother on a TV show about the unemployed 2) the bird/noises .. I saw the same documentary which featured the Lyre Bird (clip available on KZbin) and basically it mates by mimicking sounds of the rainforest. But because of human encroachment they caught it mimicking a car alarm, chain saw, and camera shutter. In typical Karl fashion he didn't listen and made his own reason as to why this bird sounds like a car lol

@@rikurodriguesneto6043 there's a finite range of pitches But timbres - ie the SHAPE of sound waves - are infinite If you get a standard sine wave, you change the shape by adding mathematical functions and transformations to them. Because there are an infinite number of numbers, there are an infinite number of different functions you can add to a sine wave to change its timbre even within one mathematical formula. I.e. you can divide some by any number from 0 to infinitely, including fractions But then ontop of that you can multiply an infinite number of ways. He was talking about the fact that every sound we hear has a tone, like the sound a jackhammer in London, even though it sounds gross and disonant to us, it's still just a collection of tones we're already aware of. Same with any sound, like the new frog he was talking about, even if it made a new sound, it would still be made up of familiar tones if it was broken down. He meant to say tones, not noises. And I think he just guessed the number 5. There are many more than 5, but he was right for the most part.

@quench100

That was a fun one! I've thought about this a lot: When he says "all noises have been used 5 times" I think what he was trying to say is that the range of frequencies our ears are able to pick up are limited, and every noise is somewhere within that range. Maybe that's what he means 🤔 I get the impression he reads lots of science mags and translates what he reads into a way he can understand it 😂 Ricky's exasperation is funny tho!😂

I think what Karl means was that if you take every noise in the world and grouped them up into very similar sounds, each group of sounds would have at least 5 instances of that particular sound in it. So take any sound in the world, e.g. a car engine, Karl is saying you could find at least 4 more occurrences of that sound (or a very similar sound) out in the world somewhere.. But I have no idea where he was going with that, or if he could somehow gleam something interesting from it.

It's true about the horse, they stopped it going in the pub so it had to be served at the window. At the end I think Karl was talking about the Lyre Bird from Australia, it can mimic the sounds of chainsaws, car alarms etc.

My guess with Mrs Battersby is that Karl just had a vivid dream he thought was real and told his parents as if it really happened. When my nephew was around 6 he asked if I wanted to see "the pelican" and dragged me upstairs to show me it. I thought he was going to show me a rubbish drawing he did of a pelican. But then he started looking down the side of the bed for a real pelican. Then I realised he must've had a dream that he thought was real. I recall similar experiences as a kid with my own dreams spilling over into reality.

I think Karl meant that every sound frequency has been heard “at least five times,” like the keys of a piano or colors in the visual spectrum. The problem is instead of a quantifiable factor like “sound frequency,” something we can measure and replicate, he used the ambiguous word “noise” that can mean Ford Escort vroom or Chicken cluck. Also the five times thing is meaningless no matter what he meant lol

Nothing makes me laugh more than this show and you enhance it perfectly. Soooo much fun and enjoyable to view, thank you so much for that 🤗 Oh and i'm similar to Karl in that when I was a kid I kept speaking to a ghost too while visiting the same county of Cornwall. I also don't remember it but my Mum tells the story about it so it's exactly the same haha. Also, I totally got what he was saying about the noises, he's just simply saying that there's so much noise going on that every possible noise that can possibly be created by soundwaves or however it is created has happened and is happening and therefore no new noises will be heard in the future. Finally, I feel quite proud to say when I'm similar to Karl about something 😅🤪

Karl completely misunderstood the noise thing The idea is that there are a limited number of frequencies which humans can hear, therefore over the course of all time, every frequency will have occurred, therefore every possible sound will have occurred. He's thinking that in order for every sound to have occurred that noises get used up and therefore anything new we hear can be compared to a previous noise we've heard.

I think Karl heard two different things and created his own theory based on it. First the thing about sounds being frequencies, and how humans hear a finite range of frequencies (not understanding that one frequency doesn't mean one fully produced 'sound' like a bird chirp as sounds are combinations of many frequencies) and secondly he probably saw the Attenborough documentary (he mentions him often) where they show the Lyre bird doing perfect imitations of car alarms and chainsaws.

I think I cracked what Karl meant about all sounds being used, it's when he compared it to keys on a piano, I think he meant that every sound that exists has to by default be somewhere on the musical spectrum, for example an animal roaring might be a b flat, and so does every other sound in the world. So there cannot be any new sounds just as there can't be any new musical notes. Is that what you meant Karl? Karl: Yeah 🤣Liar

On noises, I think a way of putting the point in a way that makes sense is we have a limited hearing range and only so many ways of describing noise (eg this new thing makes a noise that sounds like an existing thing), which could be a fun debate on the limits of language... (and he nearly gets there while staying so far away...) Karl, however, is talking like noises are literally keys on a piano, there're a fixed amount, and it's absolute shite 🤣🤣

23:48 Sorry but this isn't Karl flexing a strong work ethic. There will always be some people who use excuses to avoid work but we have many rural areas in the UK that get cut off during heavy cold snaps. I would use public transport during these times knowing some colleagues couldn't. Karl is just doubling down on his opinion, ignoring the above context provided by Ricky, because Karl can never admit to being wrong (half wrong here, problem with infrastructure, not people). Giving us some bloody hilarious results! My favourite Pilkington rebuttal is the "hmmmmm"☹️. A difficult argument to counter!

Totally disagree on your "coming to work even though everything's snowed in" take. Because your reasoning was that if Karl could come to work everyone else should. Which *only* makes sense if all the workers live together in Karls place... You don't know how much worse it is snowing where she is compared to Karl, you don't know how much further away she lived compared to Karl, he could live in a walking distance away, you don't know if public transport is going where Karl is but not where she lives etc etc. Great reaction though, hope you'll feel better soon!

Agreed. Anyone who does or has lived in a region like the UK where most of the time there isn't any snow, so that isn't adequately prepared infrastructure-wise to deal with it when it *does* snow, will know that often it's dangerous to even drive at all in it. So some people in more remote areas are "snowed in" literally. Also, one should work to live not live to work IMHO anyway, I feel it's a healthier attitude.

I understand what he was trying to say with the noises. Hes basically saying that things have repeats of the same noises. For example. In his mind, hes thinking about maybe 5 different types of chickens. If 3 of those types of chickens sound like chickens. His mind is wanting the other 2 types of chickens to sound different because he feels like the chicken noise has been used too much already. He also thinks that animals make up their own noise and they cant think of any new noises to make because they've "ran out of noises" so they just make the same noise. I have no idea if this even makes sense, its much harder to explain than i thought it would be 🤣. I understand what he means though. Hes talking shit but i understand it 😂

Karls brother was in the Territorial army and was in the Falklands, he was on a show which showed the lives of people on social benefits and his brother appears on the show, he clearly had an issue with alcohol and gambling

My favourites was Karl explaining his room 101 brains that dont want to do what they are good at is the only time i think i had no idea what he was trying to say and still dont really. The other one was the loneliest man in the world when talking about the moon landings but quickly it made sense once ricky asked questions.

It seems to me Argentinians know how to appreciate life. That sounds awesome!
@Sloane77
@Sloane77 Жыл бұрын
That’s what I was thinking. How is that a bad thing! Life is about enjoying it. We need to get rid of this Victorian mindset that working hard for someone else is virtuous. It was an idea planted to make working class people not question the shit deal they’ve been given. When you’re on your death bed would you rather be able to brag about putting in 80 hours last week, or about the day you spent with your friends. Hard work doesn’t equal reward, it equals millionaires extracting more wealth from people they underpay.
@entropyfun
@entropyfun Жыл бұрын
@@Sloane77 Exactly! If you want to work hard, good for you, but most people would rather have more free time to spend on other things besides work. Also40 hours work week is unproductive and outdated me thinks

Ummm... I can't explain the last 100 years of Argentine history and economy in a comment, but no. Argentinians have got it all wrong resulting in more poverty than ever before. More than half the kids here are poor and underfed and there are more and more homeless people now dying from the cold. It is a huge cultural problem that you kind of have to live here to understand.

In Ricky's defence in regard to the snow plumbing thing. In the UK there's many people who live in rural areas. So when it's snowing or really icy it can be tricky. Like you could live in a little village about 10 miles away from the main city center and the roads can be atrocious. For a contary that gets as much snow as we do we really don't know how to cope.

Double-glazed just means instead of one pane of glass as a window there's two back to back with tiny bit of space in the middle...You must just have another name for it, maybe PVC or something.
