When I was a young teen I used to love comic relief. One time when I was about 14 me and some friends ran around the London underground just wearing comedy boxer shorts (very popular in the eighties) and shaking a money bucket. It seems INSANE to me now that that happened. We did make about £100 (which was a lot). In the early days Comic Relief was actually quite funny and stemmed from The Secret Policeman's Ball charity gigs for Amnesty International (you have seen a few clips from those events mainly with Rowan Atkinson). Well worth watching the whole show.

Ironically, Karl's suggestion of 'just move' for the starving Africans is also the punchline for a joke written by Jimmy Carr...for Ricky Gervais! (The 11'O Clock Show)

3:12 - 3:21 That's like the Graham Norton Show, with the chair, when they have the guests tell a story. Either walk or flip. The underpants part: I remember when one of my county commissioners was convicted of a crime, they auctioned off ALL of his belongings, including his underpants. I was like "Who's gonna buy his UNDERPANTS?!" But the thing is, there's always that one person who .... (fill in the blank), so I'm sure someone must have bought them. 16:12 - 16:16 I HAD to rewind to watch him running again. 😂 Karl with his ideas. "Oh, just move." Yeah, an entire country, just pack up shop, and move. While at the same time, the people at their destination are trying to move, too. Oh, Karl. 😂 Toodles. Toodles. Toodles. Toodles.......... 😂

They have tried to get Comic Relief to be a thing in the US in recent years. I've seen a US Comic Relief version of Total Wipeout with celebrities doing it to raise money. Its famous for its Comic Relief red nose, hence Red Nose Day. Its a clowns red nose you can wear and you pay £1 or whatever for them that goes to the charity. You often see celebs wearing them in advertising campaigns. On the day, people raise money for charity by being sponsored to do silly things

Thanks for this. It's always a joy to see your delight in anything Karl. Mandy: "I don't know how to word this." Exactly my dilemma every time I think about commenting here. I'm with Karl - again - this time on 'chuggers.' Keep walking, don't pause, no eye contact. "Because they didn't listen to Karl" would have to be one of the most adorable things ever said here! The quip "just get them to move, whatever..." couldn't help but remind me of Sam Kinison World Hunger: "You want to send them something, you want to help, send them U-Hauls ..." (Also Karl sounds a lot like Sam here).

They told me "Edna is going to be cold this winter.", "They sent me a picture of Edna, he's got a tan!" :) Classic Karl from his radio podcast days. And yeah, great details is the animation too :) At the beginning you see the advertisement for Karl "I could eat a knob at night" :) Did you spot that one? Great reaction once again M.

I think the solution is to imagine you were colonizing Australia, but instead of prisoners, you're giving the locals work. That's how you make them self reliant, no longer dependant on the outside world. They need to do their own farming, but of course not every location is good for farming. Even Australia isn't fully colonized for this same reason. We're not going to mars until we can create a self sustaining colony in the middle of Australia. So Karl is actually right about "move" being the answer. You can't survive where there's no water, unless water is being delivered. If you have nobody delivering it, you need to have a system set up where the water will be delivered. In the modern world we have the technology and infrastructure to make it happen. That's where to begin.

I think the target charity for Comic Relief this year is seeing eye dogs for blind skydivers. Poor things never last long. Was that a bit off? Oh well, never mind. Also, you may be pleased to hear, or not I suppose,(serious bit now) we do have food salvage organisations here in Oz, like Oz Harvest! They collect food from bakeries and fruit & veg stores etc etc and redistribute it to homeless shelters and soup kitchens etc etc. I'm pretty sure I've heard of the same in Britain and the US. But of course, always more can be done. Also Also, Futurama is on Disney (in case you didn't know). Only 2 episodes so far. The first one was kind of strange and Fry was REALLY weird. May just be me but I thought maybe they changed the voice actor. nope. He was almost like a different character at times. Curious to hear what you think when you eventually see it. The second episode was much better. Anyhoo, catch you later Mandygator 😁

My money and possessions could corrupt and make people do strange things, friends or family, but obviously I had been killed (yet) thankfully! lol Ricky is just being a contrarian idiot in this instance about the seeds/water situation, as if there was no water at all then the people wouldn't even be there to speak to Karl because they'd have all died from dehydration before then.

Here is my logic without any actual facts to back it up, so take what you will from it. Could be wrong. Anytime you do a show like that you usually sign waivers and things like that, incase you got hurt, they didn't think he would die but they have standard contracts. Higher celebs prob would of got more than a million. Even though a million is nothing to them, who knows what loop holes they have in them they could argue out if they really didn't want to pay it out. "Oh, he was being an idiot we never told him to go next to that panda." But yeah, if you die on set, die while being hired to film anything, just like regular jobs, the employer is responsible for their safety. Better to have a standard amount then argue in court how much they are at fault and pay lots of court fees and lawyers and who knows how much to the bereaved. Probably took a union to even get them a million in a standard one.
